Computers / Re: Creating Wireless Internet Hotspots by yimikaw: 9:33pm On Dec 30, 2005
Hi,

Just to let you folks know that I have successfully created hotspots with useful applications. In fact, I've been able to make VoIP calls from such, and am looking at deploying phones such as these in the nearest future: http://wifinetnews.com/archives/002218.html (These phones work on both the GSM and WiFi frequencies).

Also worth considering is the topology of such wireless networks and what they can allow you to do. I've been able to create a hotspot spanning several kilometers which allows raoming facilities across multiple access points in the network, and am currently working on switching to a Meshed Topology which is a rugged, robust, self healing and self adaptive toplogy that enables wireless devices connect to each other and share multiple gateways .... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=wireless+mesh+topology&spell=1

The possiblities are endless, but am presently eyeing rural telephony:

Hello Yimika,

Well, I would advice you to do something related to the Internet or Mobile Phones.

You can teach people how to configure their phones or do various things with their phones. You can feature Nigerian WAP sites like Nairaland ( http://wap.nairaland.com or http://wap2.nairaland.com ).

For the Internet, which is less interesting than mobile phones, you can show people how to use various types of websites.

So make sure your programme covers mobile phones and the Internet.

... just mobile phones and the Internet? Thats rather limiting in this day and age.

I think an all round program would be better ... so ppl can learn anything they need to ... about using computers, from one source. You catch my drift ?

Wow! Thanks for the link! I would love to watch all the episodes all over again!

Better still, I won't mind ideas and contributions because I want to start something similar on NTA very soon.

Any ideas, anyone?
