I initially didnt want to reply but this rubbish has been going on for too long.

During this COVID 19 pandemic, ost countries all over the world has tremendously reduced this leading rate.

In US its less than 2%

South Africa that we are competing with has less that 7% reduced from 9% due to the pandemic.

Which country is that, and which leaders do we have?

The entire banking sector has been taken over by corrupt individual, cabals and capitalist. How can the banks be declaring Billions of dividends after tax and yet common people will borrow loan at over 30%.

How do you stimulate the economy, its simply not possible.

Yet, we have a President that is too dumb to take actions in critical areas of the economy.

Nigerians!!!

This is the new norm, every country is doing it now. You can’t be making money from a country and not pay tax!

Every foreign purchase from eBay or Amazon is subjected to online tax, which mean you paying tax to that country, because it’s a law.

Same thing should apply in Nigeria as well, online companies irrespective of where they are based or located should pay tax for income originating from Nigeria.

I concur.

Justice is very critical in any society, firstly it serves as a deterrent to young kids growing up never to follow suit.

Secondly, it heals wounds.

In Nigeria, you find a convicted murderer sentenced to death on death row for years and eventually breaking out of jails. What this means for new aspiring murderers is that they can get away with crimes and murders.

But, if there are firing squad to execute publicly immediately, am telling you most people will think twice.

What we currently need are new modern prisons, in fact, we currently need them now more than roads or anything.

Why can't you just take your time to understand the content of the post before typing? The article is about SSANU and not ASUU. The two are not the same. SSANU has keyed in to IPPIS and they are now regretting doing so. This is unlike ASUU that is kicking against it. SSANU members are non-academic staffs in Nigerian universities. They don't do part time job elsewhere. They are not lecturers what made up ASUU. The fact that non-academic staffs who have registered for IPPIS are now regretting their action should tell every right thinking person that ASUU has a good reason for being sceptical about it.

Give this guy a breathing space.

What he said was still relevant in this context.

However, if the IPPIS is not currently perfect, why can’t SSANU and ASUU come out with recommendations to make it better.

We can’t just throw away the baby with the bath water.

Crime / Re: Nigerians Blame Banks For Negligence As Robbers Visit Homes With POS Machines by yinchar(m): 11:07am On Apr 22, 2020
Validated:
I think most respondents missed the point. The robbers use POS machine for pin confirmation. Banks should move a step further by ensuring that ATM are:
1. Made inaccesible from dusk to dawn
2. Withdrawals during such times should require authetication token obtainable by biometric means. Most ATMs have finger print recognition botton but our laziness does no make us activate it.
3. POS should be made to store data about any card slotted for which a PIN was entered
4. Commercial Banks and Other POS issuers should require holders to submit electronic activities reports on monthly basis failing which such machines are blocked
5. The Police should rise to the occasion. This is the simplest case to crack.
In this particular one, YES.

But there have been other instances where they robbers use the POS to steal the money, its all over in the news.

according to the post which i doubt you guys read

they dont transfer, they only use the pos to confirm your pin is correct, then take your atm card away and withdraw as much as they can before morning when bank will have time to block your card.

In this situation they might not, I have read where they use the POS for the transfer itself.

This is a no brainer issue that requires a simple fix.

All funds paid or transferred to a POS linked account should be made unavailable or kept in lien for 3 working days, will only be cleared for withdrawal or transfer after 3 working days.

That’s how’s it done in some advanced countries, even in some countries it 7 working days, some 1 month.

I don’t know why simple things are so difficult in our country.

Politics / Re: Almost Every Nigerian Pays Tax. What Has The FG Done With Your VAT? by yinchar(m): 11:35pm On Apr 21, 2020
Income Tax is different from Value Added Tax (VAT)

I’ll try to break it down, income tax is levied on your income such as salary. The current income tax in Nigeria is one of the lowest in the work, no country can survive at this lower income tax rate. For example, South Africa minimum income tax rate is 25% of your month salary, and like 40% minimum in UK. The country needs to increase the income tax.

The VAT is on anything you purchase in the country. Also one of the lowest in the world at 5/7.5%, this is too low for a country as big as ours that requires modern infrastructure.

Politics / US Oil Prices Turn Negative As Demand Dries Up by yinchar(m): 8:44pm On Apr 20, 2020
The price of US oil has turned negative for the first time in history.

That means oil producers are paying buyers to take the commodity off their hands over fears that storage capacity could run out in May.

Demand for oil has all but dried up as lockdowns across the world have kept people inside.

As a result, oil firms have resorted to renting tankers to store the surplus supply and that has forced the price of US oil into negative territory.

The price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the benchmark for US oil, fell as low as minus $37.63 a barrel.

The severe drop on Monday was driven in part by a technicality of the global oil market. Oil is traded on its future price and May futures contracts are due to expire on Tuesday. Traders were keen to offload those holdings to avoid having to take delivery of the oil and incur storage costs.

June prices for WTI were also down, but trading at above $20 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent Crude - the benchmark used by Europe and the rest of the world - was also weaker, down 8.9% at less than $26 a barrel.

The oil industry has been struggling with both tumbling demand and in-fighting among producers about reducing output.

Earlier this month, Opec members and its allies finally agreed a record deal to slash global output by about 10%. The deal was the largest cut in oil production ever to have been agreed.

But some analysts said the cuts were not big enough to make a difference.

"It hasn't taken long for the market to recognise that the Opec+ deal will not, in its present form, be enough to balance oil markets," said Stephen Innes, chief global market strategist at Axicorp.

The leading exporters - Opec and allies such as Russia - have already agreed to cut production by a record amount.

In the United States and elsewhere, oil-producing businesses have made commercial decisions to cut output. But still the world has more crude oil than it can use.

And it's not just about whether we can use it. It's also about whether we can store it until the lockdowns are eased enough to generate some additional demand for oil products.

Capacity is filling fast on land and at sea. As that process continues it's likely to bear down further on prices.

It will take a recovery in demand to really turn the market round and that will depend on how the health crisis unfolds.

There will be further supply cuts as private sector producers respond to the low prices, but it's hard to see that being on a sufficient scale to have a fundamental impact on the market.

Meanwhile, concern continues to mount that storage facilities in the US will run out of capacity, with stockpiles at Cushing, the main delivery point in the US for oil, rising almost 50% since the start of March, according to ANZ Bank. "We hold some hope for a recovery later this year," the bank said in its research note.

Mr Innes said: "It's a dump at all cost as no one, and I mean no one, wants delivery of oil with Cushing storage facilities filling by the minute."

I have been saying it and keep on saying it, the government needs to build modern maximum prisons it’s important and necessary in any society just the way you invest in roads and hospitals.

Modern prisons needs to be built to accommodate the criminals in our society. People must know there must be a repercussions for every criminal actions.

Most of these criminals will soon be released because of congestion, we cannot as a nation be using prison built since the colonial era that are full to capacity.
