PoliticsHurricane Sandy Churns Up US Election Campaign by ykkool(op): 2:18pm On Oct 29, 2012
President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney overhauled campaign plans again for Monday as Hurricane Sandy threatened tens of millions of Americans

Both men dumped planned rallies in swing states in the path of the monster storm, upending strategies which have been months in the making.

"The storm will throw havoc into the race," Democratic Virginia Senator and Obama supporter Mark Warner told Fox News, as coastal evacuations were ordered and millions of people feared flooding and power cuts.

As the hurricane neared, Mr Romney on Sunday scrapped appearances in Virginia to join running-mate Paul Ryan in Ohio, the Midwestern epicentre of the unpredictable final week battle.

Mr Obama, who had already brought forward his arrival in Florida to Sunday evening to dodge the storm, cancelled an appearance on Monday in Orlando.

"Due to deteriorating weather conditions in the Washington area, the president will not attend today's campaign event in Orlando," White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

"The President will return to the White House to monitor the preparations for and early response to Hurricane Sandy."

Sandy is forecast to begin hitting the Washington region on Monday with strong wind and drenching rain.

The Obama campaign said the president was being briefed regularly on the hurricane and preparations for the federal government "to bring all available resources to bear" to ease the effects of the monstrous, late-season storm.

"Obviously my first priority has to be to make sure that everything is in place for families," the president told campaign workers in Florida on Sunday.

"That's going to be putting a little bit more burden on folks in the field, because I'm not going to be able to campaign quite as much over the next couple of days."

Mr Obama has also cancelled a campaign event in Virginia on Monday and one in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Tuesday.

Virginia and Colorado - like Florida, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nevada - are the critical battleground states where the outcome of the election will be determined.

Democrats claim the president has the edge heading into the final full week of the campaign.

The storm could offer opportunity for Obama, allowing him to pose as a cool, effective leader, marshalling the resources of an engaged government at a moment when citizens most need it.

However Republicans insist Mr Romney has the momentum necessary for victory.

In an email to supporters, he said people in Hurricane Sandy's path were in his thoughts and prayers.

"I hope that if you can, you'll reach out to your neighbours who may need help getting ready for the storm - especially your elderly neighbours," Mr Romney said

"I'm never prouder of America than when I see how we pull together in a crisis. There's nothing that we can't handle when we stand together."

Voters in many states are already casting ballots early, and about one-third of the electorate will have voted before Election Day.

In addition to scrambling to tweak schedules over the weekend, the campaigns were pumping millions of more dollars into TV ads running in the decisive battleground states.

Well-funded outside groups and super PACs are paying for direct mail, automated phone calls and other get-out-the-vote efforts.

Total spending in this campaign has exceeded $2 billion, making it the most expensive presidential race in the history of electoral politics.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill Is New FA Vice-chairman by ykkool(op): 10:16am On Oct 29, 2012
The Manchester United chief executive replaces Sir Dave Richards as one of two vice-chairmen, alongside Roger Burden, after his promotion was ratified at a meeting of the FA Council.

The move strengthens Gill's standing in the English game ahead of his campaign to win a place on the UEFA Executive Committee at next May's elections.

The 55-year-old said: "I'm delighted to have been appointed vice-chairman of the Football Association.
"The health and success of the Football Association is vital to the future of the game in England and I hope to justify the board's faith in me by helping to shape discussions and actions to deliver that.

HealthWoman Performs Own Caesarean To Save Baby by ykkool(op): 3:43pm On Oct 23, 2012
A woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy after performing a Caesarean on herself with a kitchen knife.

It is thought to be the first known case of a self-inflicted Caesarean in which both the mother and baby survived.

The unidentified 40-year-old, lived in a rural area of Mexico without electricity or running water, and eight hours from the nearest hospital.
The International Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics reported the case.

The woman performed the operation when she could not deliver the baby naturally, having lost a previous baby due to labour complications.

Dr R Valle, of the Dr Manuel Velasco Suarez Hospital in San Pablo, Mexico, said: “She took three small glasses of hard liquor and, using a kitchen knife, sliced her abdomen in three attempts and delivered a male infant that breathed immediately and cried.”

Before losing consciousness, the woman told one of her children to call a local nurse for help.

After the nurse stitched the wound with a sewing needle and cotton thread, the mother and baby were transferred and treated by Dr Valle and his colleagues at the nearest hospital.

“This case represents an unusual and extraordinary decision by a woman in labour who, unable to deliver herself spontaneously, and with no medical help or resources, decided to perform a caesarean section upon herself,” he said.

He added that a mother’s instinct to save her child can move a woman to perform extraordinary acts but said it would not have been necessary if adequate medical care had been available.

Professor James Walker, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, said he had heard of cases in the past where farmers had performed Caesareans on their wives after having previously carried out the operation on animals.

But he said it would not happen now. “In this country, there is virtually never a situation when an individual is totally isolated from medical care even in the most outlying areas.”

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)John Terry Encouraged To Take Up Anti-racism Role By Kick It Out. by ykkool(op): 5:16pm On Oct 19, 2012
Lord Ouseley wants Chelsea captain John Terry to play a prominent role in football's battle against racism.
The chairman of anti-racism campaign Kick It Out has been a vocal critic in the handling of the Terry case. It took 12 months for an FA ban and fine to be handed out after the Chelsea defender racially abused QPR's Anton Ferdinand.
Terry's four-game suspension starts against Tottenham on Saturday, ahead of Kick It Out's annual 'raising awareness of racism in football' week, which traditionally involves players wearing T-shirts during their warm-up.
"The idea is that the clubs do whatever they feel appropriate during our two weeks of action, and that could be the players wearing T-shirts or whatever message the clubs wish to make," Lord Ouseley told ESPN.
"As for John Terry, he has a big following in football and it would be wrong to be obstructive to him being involved. In fact it would be right for John Terry to show that he stands for quality and fair treatment for all.
"He has apologised for the language he used almost a year ago,and yes, of course, it has been a long time coming, but that isn't the point.

SportsMuamba Launches Heart Campaign by ykkool(op): 7:19pm On Oct 15, 2012
Fabrice Muamba, Bolton Wanderers and Arrhythmia Alliance, the Heart Rhythm Charity, have launched a year-long campaign to help prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest.

The campaign, called Hearts and Goals, will raise awareness and give communities across the country access to 500 new defibrillators, as well as CPR and defibrillator training.

Fabrice said “I am really pleased to be able to lead this campaign. I was staggered to find out that 100,000 people a year die from sudden cardiac arrest.

“Anyone suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest who is treated with CPR and a defibrillator is ten times more likely to survive than just having CPR alone.

“We have got a number of key initiatives, such as providing CPR training, and I will be learning how to use an AED, and I hope that we can create something really good from this campaign.”

Trudie Lobban MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of Arrhythmia Alliance, said, “What happened to Fabrice last season put the deadly potential of heart rhythm disorders under a national spotlight.

“Fabrice was extremely fortunate to benefit from immediate medical assistance of the highest calibre, and was still very fortunate to survive, many thousands of other people are not so lucky.

“We are honoured to have formed this partnership and believe that the Hearts & Goals campaign provides an extremely valuable and exciting opportunity to increase the number of public-access defibrillators in the UK and to enhance public understanding of how to use them during resuscitation.”

Also joining as partners in the campaign are North West Ambulance Service and the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust.

David McNally, Community Resuscitation Development Manager said, “This is a fantastic campaign and NWAS are delighted to be supporting Hearts & Goals. In the event of a person suffering cardiac arrest, quick action can be taken to give the patient the best chance of survival. It is proven that in every minute that passes without intervention, the chances of survival deceases by 14%. Effective CPR and defibrillation ensures the patient has the best chance of survival. AEDs save lives.”

Ian Laithwaite, Head of the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, said, “We are pleased to be able to play our part in this project. As part of our involvement in the community we will be working with schools and community groups to deliver training in life saving skills that will involve courses in CPR with AEDs.

“As well as this positive practical involvement and provision of key skills we will also be seeking to educate and raise awareness around the issues of sudden cardiac arrest.”
SportsDrogba Double Sparks Riot In Dakar by ykkool(op): 8:26am On Oct 15, 2012
The trouble in Dakar overshadowed qualification for Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and holders Zambia who are all through to the finals in South Africa in January.
Drogba's latest talismanic performance proved too much for the Senegal fans who invaded the pitch, threw objects and lit small fires in the packed stands after their team went 2-0 down and 6-2 behind on aggregate in the final round tie.
Police were forced to clear the away supporters to safety, leading many of them to the middle of the pitch, and then sent a vehicle on to the field to evacuate the match officials before the game was called off about 14 minutes from full time.
It is likely the Ivorians will be awarded the tie but there was no official confirmation on Saturday from the governing Confederation of African Football whose Cairo office was closed.
Striker Drogba's free kick just after halftime extended the Ivorians' two-goal lead from the first leg and then converted a 71st minute penalty which sparked the violence.

RomanceAn American Woman Claims She Became Pregant After Watching A 3D Indecency. by ykkool(op): 2:01pm On Oct 08, 2012
US military man Erick Jhonson came home from a stint in Iraq to find that his wife was pregnant. Clearly he assumed she had an affair, but his wife Jennifer claims the “other man” was actually someone a little less physical.

It seems he actually buys her story, however. “I see it as suspicious. The films in 3D are very real. With today’s technology, anything is possible,” he said.

What's even more interesting is that both Jennifer and Erick are white, but the child is black. Jeniffer claims the kid looks like the black IndecentStar she had been ogling. She also claims this was one of the first times she's watched porn and only went with friends for the 3D effect. TechEye did a survey of one person and found 100 percent would say the same thing in a similar situation.

“Even though my husband believed in me, my marriage could be at risk,” Jennifer said. “But he knows I’m faithful.” It just shows you what joining the military does to your head.

Jennifer explained that “a month after watching the movie, I started feeling dizzy and the results were positive.” That must have been one good Indecency.

3D movies have gained renewed popularity since Avatar, but there have been some concerns raised over how bad they may be for your eyes. Now you'll have to worry about conceiving in the cinema.

You may have jumped when an object in film was thrown at the camera, but now you'll have to be careful of other, far more uncouth things flying at you. TechEye recommends contraception for your next trip to the cinema. You never know.
PoliticsLagos Court Dismisses Clifford Orji Suit by ykkool(op): 1:39pm On Oct 05, 2012
Following the death of alleged man-eater, Clifford Orji, an Ikeja High Court on Thursday dismissed his one million naira suit against the Lagos State Attorney-General, Mr Ade Ipaye.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Lateefat Okunnu dismissed the suit following the confirmation that Orji died on Aug.17 at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos.

Orji had filed the suit through his counsel, the Abiodun Odusote Chambers.

He challenged his continued detention in prison for about 12 years without trial.

The Lagos State commissioner of police was joined as a respondent in the suit.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Thursday, Orji's counsel, Mrs Abimbola Odusote, told the court that Orji died of gastroentritis.

Odusote said that the chambers had received documents and a sworn affidavit from prisons authorities confirming Orji’s death.

She, therefore, asked the court to strike out the suit.

NAN reports that Orji was arraigned over alleged murder before an Ikeja High Court which remanded him in prison custody on Dec. 7, 2000.

In the suit filed by his counsel on April 26, Orji had asked the court for a declaration that his continued detention violated his right to liberty as enshrined in Section 35 (1) (4) of the 1999 Constitution.

He asked the court to order the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions to release him unconditionally from prison custody.

Orji also asked the court to order the respondents to pay him one million naira being exemplary and general damages for breaching his constitutional rights.

PoliticsMpape Residents Lambast Jonathan Over Planned Demolition by ykkool(op): 8:29pm On Aug 09, 2012
The Goodluck Jonathan administration on Tuesday received bashing from non indigenous residents of Mpape Suburb billed for total demolition.

The group of non-indigenes who number over 3million asked the Jonathan administration to shelve its plan to throw them into homelessness.

The protesting residents displayed placards which read: “Now they have shows, but we have none”, “I can also be President”, “I can also be Senator”, “I can also be Minister” and “We need to be protected”.

Spokesman of the group, Chiemeka Friday stated that any government no matter how well thought will be illegal if it targets at further impoverishment of the people.

He regretted that whilst President Jonathan sought votes, the Mpape area was not an illegal settlement, as the people in the area where wooed to vote him into office. He urged the President to intervene to ensure that the FCTA is called to order.

However, there appears to be no hope for the Mpape residents as the FCTA insists that it will demolish over 3000 houses in the area.

Observers are watching closely to see those who will be allocated the plots after the celebrated demolition.

News learnt that the plots of the suburb have already be allocated to top government functionaries and politicians, just like the Maitama extension.
