Computers / Re: How Is Swift Broadband? by Yoke(f): 10:28am On May 10, 2007
I have used them and wasn't too impressed, can't remember what package we signed up for but it was supposed to be a dedicated 384 kbps downlink and uplink, we barely got 50/15 downlink/uplink. Each time they came to "fix" it but it was still slow, we cancelled our subscription only after about 2 months.

Who knows, maybe you'll have a better experience with them, they are anything but swift though.
Programming / Re: Brainteaser - How Many Mints Are There In This Grid by Yoke(f): 4:24pm On Apr 14, 2007
Horizontally, vertically, diagonally, snakeically  i.e. in any direction you can fathom e.g. 'u', 's', 'o' etc

Oh that sucks, back to the drawing board, smiley

7 - I have way too much time on my hands  grin. I put together a 'not so pretty' js function to count it. (Oh I'm also guessing that you mean horizontally, vertically and diagonally only)
Webmasters / Re: Web Design: Only For Guys? by Yoke(f): 2:18pm On Apr 11, 2007
Actually there are significantly more female graphic designers then web developers so you shouldn't have too much of problem finding other female graphic designers. The office where I worked before I moved back had 43 coders of which 2 (including me) were female. And had 3 out of about 5 graphic designers that were girls.

I think part of the problem is the long hours (at least with development), some of the guys at my former office would actually stay all night, but my then boyfriend (now husband) wasn't having any of that, luckily I could work from home though so I was able to keep up.  grin
Business / Nepc Event Tommorow - Anyone Have Details? by Yoke(f): 12:21am On Mar 22, 2007
Hi Guys,

There's supposed to be an NEPC (Nigerian Exports Promotions Council) event tomorrow in Apapa specifically on IT outsourcing. It was in the papers a few days ago and I forgot to write the details down. I checked their site but their events page is down angry. Does anyone have the details? address?, anyone?, someone?

Thanks in advance.

Business / Re: What Business Can I Start With 4,000 Naira? by Yoke(f): 1:31am On Sep 08, 2006
Start an office cleaning service, use the money to print flyers with your contact information and to buy cleaning supplies, hand them out at office buildings/plazas.

Thanks guys for the responses.

Bossman, yes I do have programming experience mostly with PHP and MySQL (as far as relational DBs are concerned), and also with a proprietary language that the company I currently work for uses (I have obtained a license to use this in Nigeria - as it has a lot of built-in functionality already).

What industries would you advise on focusing on (it's definitely easier to market when you focus on one)?

my2cents, thanks for the internship idea, Lord knows I have done my fair share of free work at internships  grin, but you learn a lot as well so no wahala. I'll also definitely give traditional advertising a shot.

Chxta thanks for the ISP info, I have been looking for this as well
Travel / Moving To Nigeria by Yoke(f): 2:05pm On Sep 07, 2006
I am going to be moving back to Nigeria in about a month after about 10 years in the US. For those on ground, I want to find out what the web-development market is like, I intend on setting up a business in this area. I know there is plenty of talent in Nigeria so I don't see any problem there, but what is the best way to get your name out in the industry?

Also, is it feasible to work from home in Nigeria? or will I need to invest in an office space? how much should I be thinking of investing, etc?

Thanks in advance.
