The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated the former Governor of Adamawa State, Mr Bala Ngilari on his victory at the Appeal Court.
The PDP congratulated Ngilari in a statement issued by Mr Dayo Adeyeye, National Publicity Secretary, PDP National Caretaker Committee, on Saturday in Abuja.
On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal in Yola, discharged and acquitted Ngilari of corruption charges levelled against him.
Ngilari was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for misconduct in the award of contract for the purchase of 25 Toyota Hilux truck and misappropriation of over N160 million.
Adeyeye said the victory had once again affirmed PDP’s earlier position that the anti-corruption war was a vendetta targeted at former leaders and members of the party and other perceived enemies of the government.
He said that Ngilari was one among many other innocent PDP members and other Nigerians, wrongly accused of corruption that had been vindicated in recent times.
“These innocent men and women have been harassed, intimidated and subjected to harrowing legal prosecution simply to score cheap political points and cow the opposition into silence.”
He said that Elder Godsday Orubebe, the former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs and PDP agent in the 2015 Presidential Election was wrongly accused of fraud to the tune of N1.97 billion.
“He was later discharged and acquitted by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of the FCT High Court on April 4, 2017.”
Adeyeye also recalled the arrest and detention of some Justices of the Supreme Court by the Department of State Security (DSS), on account of various allegations of bribery and corruption.
He said that some of the Judges till date had not been charged to court for the alleged offences.
“Justice Adeniyi Ademola, his wife Omobola and Mr Joe Agi, (SAN), were all discharged and acquitted by another FCT High Court on April 5, 2017.”
Adeyeye called on the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to release the report of Presidential Investigative Committee that was set up in April.
The committee, headed by Osinbajo, was set up to investigate the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr David Lawal; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ayo Oke.
Adeyeye urged members and supporters of the PDP nationwide to remain steadfast as the party work to regain power. (NAN)

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said he and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will use the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Governor Segun Oni or anyone presented by the APC in the 2018 governorship election in the state to set electoral records.
Fayose expressed confidence that 2018 would mark the third time he and his party would defeat the APC and its candidate in governorship elections in the state.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu. Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, was reacting to comments made by Oni while declaring his intention to contest the 2018 poll that Fayose and the PDP were common enemies that he and the APC must tackle during the poll.
While advising Oni to keep his gunpowder dry until he is able to secure the APC’s ticket, Fayose noted that the APC and whoever it presents for the election would be no match for the PDP and its candidate.
“Defeating the APC in governorship elections is not new to me and my party. We defeated them in 2003 and recorded a landslide victory against them in 2014 when their candidate could not even win his local government. The 2014 victory was very remarkable because Oni was part of a gang up of three former governors against me and my party and we won convincingly.
“Oni tried unsuccessfully to rubbish my administration’s giant strides in the state during my first tenure and the current one. It was during my first term that we dualised all the roads leading to Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. We repositioned education and improved on the state’s performance in public examinations. We are number one in NECO and among the top in WAEC examinations.
“Now, we are not only dualising roads across 11 local government areas, we have extended the Ado-Ikere Road dualisation deep into Ikere town. Because the APC and its leaders in Ekiti lack foresight, they can never ever see anything good in the flyover, new Ojaba Market, new high court complex, new Governor’s Office and other numerous projects we are executing.
“They are simply dumbfounded that in spite of the austere times we are in, our administration has been able to forge ahead with these projects. It is only a leadership that is focused and know its onions that can place the welfare of majority of people over and above the welfare of minority.
“Oni and his day dreamers should be reminded that it was the prodigal APC-led administration of 2010 to 2014 that plunged the state into financial crisis by leaving workers’ entitlements unpaid and borrowing to finance projects it never executed.
“What the former APC government failed to do to improve the living standard of people and workers, we have come to do and it shows in the support and acceptability of our government by Ekiti people. Let Oni first secure the ticket of his party and then see if he can test his might against the will of Ekiti people,” he said.
The governor added that even if a snap election was called, the APC and its candidate would be defeated by his party’s candidate.

ABUJA-FORTY three Boko Haram insurgents who recently surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, were on Saturday, air lifted to join other surrendered insurgents in Gombe where they are to immediately commence de-radicalization and rehabilitation programme.
The programme, according to a statement by Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director, Public Relations Theatre Command, Maiduguri, is under the auspices of Operation Safe Corridor.
The statement said the Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, speaking while handing over the surrendered insurgents to Operation Safe Corridor, gave assurance that the penitent insurgents will be given a new lease of life as they commence their journey back into the civil society through the de-radicalization and rehabilitation processes.
“He urged them further to embrace and undertake the programme whole heartedly to enable them benefit and positively reorient their views about life and the society in general, “the statement said.
General Attahiru called on all other insurgents to abandon the futile struggle and reject the hypocrisy of the Boko Haram leadership who live in affluence, while their foot soldiers die in hunger.
It will be recalled that over 70 Boko Haram insurgents had earlier in this month, surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North East, thus, taking advantage of the window of grace provided by the Federal Government for insurgents who are willing to give up terrorism and turn a new leaf to surrender to any military location closest to them.
