See 80% of these gift was recently donated to the benevolence dept of the church....so to me the church has done nothing special here what will move me is if they take from their tithe and offering account to do this then we will praise them

I saw people donating these items some even brought truck load of rice, drinks, etc
so please this is not special they dint take out of their account to sponsor this
this is just people feeding the poor and not the church because it was announced in church to donate to this

So sad.....
we can actually compare a bank manager in nigeria and that of usa

please what can a bank manager in usa do with money that the one in nigeria cant
they both can afford a duplex in a good location drive new cars can go on vacations take their kids to good schools even the ones in nigeria have brand new company car and drivers what else is there to life abeg...

The only difference is the system in usa works
but the truth is you get to a certain level in nigeria you build your own world.....24hr light constant water etc

The west lacks communal living. Everybody is on the run and they never stop. 80% of the time they never get what they are chasing. They might look successful to the average person but when you come close to them you will be surprised to know a large chunk of them are on antidepressants drugs. 1 person commits suicide every 15 minutes in the United States.

Really? undecided Mr High IQ. FYI Nigeria is an import based economy almost every meaningful thing you use are imported and you ask a silly question. Is 150k even good enough to live on in Nigeria where you pay for healthcare and basic amenities that you don't get including taxes.

Better read and learn than talk rubbish here. How many people even get 150k jobs? How many people get consistently paid through the year without being owed for months? Didn't the price of food increase by over a 100% since this government came in and you talk about purchasing power undecided

Please I dont like arguing without facts
how much do you spend on your basic essentials of life I mean accomodation, feeding and clothing state them here without lies and i will state mine lets do the maths

and there are lots of people earning 150k and above and very constant in nigeria stop forming stories to justify your leaving nigeria

So having a driver and maids that you can freely owe is what you call a good life undecided Are the maids not Nigerians that should have rights? How many Nigerians can get 150k jobs (That's even less than £400)

You guys please stop converting to naira and compare it just show how low you guys iq is

what is the purchasing power of 400 pounds in uk and what is the purchasing power of 150k nqira in nigeria farrrrr different

This is a thread people took too personal, at the end of the day its a personal opinion, aside from that, there is not much to compare.

The key too your happiness is that you have made things work for you in Nigeria and you are contended.

its wrong to compare a low level worker abroad to a professional in Nigeria , thou in pay they might be equal.

But if someone is making 400K per month in Nigeria the question is how much are you really worth and how much can you make abroad?

If you are a Banker in Nigeria and you go abroad to be a Gateman , then the people from the village are involved.

But if you are a guru in software development earning 400K in Nigeria and with your skills u can work for an IT firm and earn 8K dollars monthly before tax , then may be you should consider it.

Lots of people in Nigeria doing great things and making a lot of money, same thing abroad lots of 25 year olds earning over 100k Dollars per year

But in summary based on logistics abi statistics Nigeria as less opportunities , infrastructure, quality of life than a developed country even the President runs to UK every time for medical check up

Firstly
I like your reply this is maturity unlike those that will comw and abuse my life

The guy in nigeria and the gate man may earn the same salary when you change the dollar to naira but the gateman doesnt stay in nigeria his expenses will be way higher than the professional the nigeria guy will be able to save 2.4million a year in nigeria with that money he can live for 1 year but convert that money to dollar it bcomes 6k that money will not be enough for him for two months...... the gateman will not be able to even save a dime

I think many people dont know this before they leave for the states they are carried away with the conversion till they get there

Sir 400k every month in nigeria is not small money sir thats someone salary in a year in nigeria and the person still gets by, but 400k in yankee is 1000 dollars is very small money

unless you work in usa and lives in nigeria then I can say you are on point which is not possibe
I agree opportunity is low in nigeria standard of living is low is low too there are no infrastructure sef grin but I believe if you have the means to create a good life for yourself I believe its better you stay back

thank you grin

Maybe you dont understand comprehension, that you drive that car for 2 years without it giving you any problem has no correlation what soever with you or what you did to the car, you were just luck, you asked me what company will pay 400K to some one and not take care of medicals? you lack of exposure should didnt tell you some have already factored medical into that 400k which means it no longer upto that amount if you back the medicals out. You have asked again where I buy my car from, bros the profile of you am putting together based on this questions is gradually taking shape. Its a dangerous thing to create a cocoon yourself and live there all alone.

I didnt want to come here again after I read where eruditor said a minimum wage guys is better than a 400k guy in nigeria cry cry I have been sad since yesterday because of this he just rubbished us in nigeria imagine a guy that earns 400k rents a 2 bedroom flat at one estate in mende marryland wakes in the morning enters his own car drives to his lovely company works 8 hours with the right temperature close from work drives in his car with the right temperature gets home park his car in his garrage goes into his house puts on his inverter if no light cooks in his lovely kitchen or invites his girlfriend and she cooks dinner they eat while watching cable tv then sleeps with the right temperature you mean the guy in yankee that stays in one room with 2 other people or one other person wakes up and goes to flip burger for 8hrs and closes enters a bus goes home and share bed kitchen batroom etc with others, lives a better life than the 400k guy in nigeria this really got to me and it broke me down since yesterday I started to doubt my decision. I had to call my folks in yankee to get more insight to this like someone said on this thread una don see us finish

well to you thank you I am lucky infact my name is lucky grin I repeat again and again tell me a company in nigeria that pays entry level 400k a month and doesnt have one or more hospitals attached to the staff I promise you I will make so much money from that company if you cant name any company please I am done

I won't bother with the rest. You are typing ideas not facts. Based on the above, you don't give anyone anything. Don't purchase gifts. Don't buy Asoebi. No family member asks you for favor. You don't buy clothes. Nothing you have needs fixing. LOL.

The one that brought me here is the 400k to 3k dollars. Hahahahaha. People who earn $1k a month live better than People who earn 500k in Nigeria.

You are asking for breakdown yet people stay in 3-bedroom apartments in Oshodi for 500k a year and they had to pay 200k as agency fee. You need to see the ramshackle that is going for 500k in Nigeria. In Lekki phase 1, people rent out their boy's quarters (studio flat more like) for 1M naira. Just look for a $400 per month apartment in Missouri and see what will turn up.

Remember the 1M per year rent BQ is for a so-called big boy in Nigeria and yet he cannot build houses and rent out things to tenants. But on NL, people are starting empires with 100k. LOL

why are you making me laugh firstly a man on 400k salary in nigeria Is not a big boy there are people earning far higher than that in nigeria but in some years and careful planning this guy will be better off
please show me the 1room you can rent for 400dollars in usa I want to learn because the last I checked was 800k with sharing toilet in cali and a guy with 400k salary can afford to stay in a 2 bedroom flat for 1.5million in year in a very good estate in lagos please but because he wants to save for the future he decides to stay in a room self for 600k my friend you can get a good room self contain in a very nice estate in lagos sir

please leave out all those asoebi party money and family money you guys in yankee also have to send money home to for these things unless you are heartless 1k dollars in usa you can survive tel me more I want to learn because we have relatives on 3k+ salary in usa and they dont do shit over there and even in nigeria I dont blame you guys its the recent dollar rate thats making you guys feel big noworry small time all this will soon end atleast dangote refinery will soon start dollar go drop grin grin grin joking

please stop converting dollar to naira and argue your 3k dollars wont be enough for you in the big cities in usa you will have to borrow

but with my 400k in nigeria I fit stay for lkoyi even if na I room mini flat I can still pay 1.2 comfortable and I will still save over 100k every month but with you 3k you no fit stay newyork or cali etc check this link how them yeye your 3k dollars grin grin

At the bold its clear you are not that exposed to many compnaies ( no pun intended)

I am not talking about spending 20K on car per month, I asked specific question as regards your claim that car maintanance expenses can be reduced.
please read and understand I said the man with 400k salary every month can reduce some of the expenses I wrote up there for example dstv instead of full package he goes for 10k package and he will still have great channels and watch live football he has saved 5k also for his car maintainence he cant spend 20k a month if he has a good car some months he wont even spend nothing on maintainence

for the medical thing huh tell me something a company that can pay entry level 400k wont sort out medicals abegi when even chinco companies here sorts out medicals please tell us the company let me quickly make money from them cheesy cheesy grin grin

Why won't it be a great investment when typical expenses like rent, petrol for cars and gens, car maintenance, PHCN, feeding, security, vigilante dues grin DSTV, phone and internet bills, family welfare and all the other myriad of things that depend on a salary in Nigeria are non-existent, right?

wow are these expenses hissssssssssss

rent 0 he stays in his own house
petrol for car 20k gen 2k because in has solar
car maintenance 20k
phcn 8k
feeding 50k
security in an estate 10k
dstv 15k
phone internet bill 5k
other expenses 20k

total is 150k even if he has to pay rent 50k for a mini flat in a good area so total 200k he has 200k left

And nigerians will agree with me that we can actually cut most of these bills down and still live well like dstv car maint etc
you guys have left nigeria too long to know whats obtainable here
a man wiith 400k job here is better than the man with 3k dollars in america ifu disagree pls break down expenses with 3k dollars in yankee for all to see

I must commend you, you have consistently laced this debate with unheard of and ludicrous claims so much so that I begin to wonder if you received training for this.

From telling people that one can easily become a millionaire overnight in Nigeria to suggesting that our education system is on par with Western education (pg 2 of this thread), not to mention the "fantastic" investment opportunities that are available with N400K, you are now adding this Ibadan story to the mix.

Wonderful.

Na you biko

please dont start with the 400k salary again constant 400k for 9 years you are building houses thats a very good investment sir

How did everybody miss this?

I didn't know Tales by Moonlight has been rebooted grin

OK, seriously. Tell us the states in Nigeria where a man earning N100K can build a decent (by that I mean at least a 2 or 3 bedroom bungalow w/ 2 bathrooms) house in 2017. Show us where such things are possible please I'm sure many readers on here would want to know how to build houses on a 100K salary and still cover regular living costs.

Lol you guys are not on ground we are the ones here

lets do this some family in nigeria survive on less than 50k everyone will agree with me on this

so this man decide to 50k every month because he wants to build a house in five years he would have saved 3million and if we go by my treasury bills investment or other bills he will definately save more than 3 milion

so he buys half plot of land at inside sango ota for 500k he his left with 2.5k he decides to build a straight 2 bedroom no desigh just straight pattern he will finish that house with that amount if you dont believe go to the property section on nairaland and see them argue and break it down how 2 million will build a straight 2 bedroom in nigeria

my people its very possible.

I have nothing against you. Making plans in 2011 is not the same as making one in 2017. Please think hard.

I know about Tbills and fixed deposits and without being nitpicky, they are more responsible for your N24M in 5 years than your pure savings (which is what I challenged).

If you are legit, congrats to you. You are an anomaly and should show some restraint in advising someone to tread your path. On average, it is better to recommend the path of surest success than the highest risk highest reward path.

Come on, if Wizkid tells people to quit school and chase music like he did and then refer to his huge success as the reason for it will you support him?

There are more "comfy" school-goers than musicians who made it big like Wiz.

How is 400k 5 years ago the same as 400k today? Do you realize that 400k in 2011 was equivalent to $2600 while it is $1000 today?

Any plot of land you acquired for N14M today would have been like N2M or 3M five years ago (If I am not being overly generous).

Then you spent 5M building a property on land you paid 14M for? grin

Mehn, I don't want to look like I have a personal axe to grind with you but your calculations just appear too mechanical. You mean you waited till the end of each year to get your 3.6M and then had enough time to add it to the cumulative of previous years just in time to procure Tbills with it etc. And still count it within that same year?

You try.

Please read and understand now

my plot of land today if you want to buy at that area is 20m+

I did not buy the land only for my use thats why I built something small so I can have space to build for tenants oga sir

now bro let me school you on tbills my tbills drops every december before it drops I write the bank that I want roll it over with an additional 3.6million so the bank just add my 3.6million to what I have before and buys treasury bills for me

now let me tell you something I even saved more than 24million you know why I got better interest some years 14%etc but I calculated on 10% only for easy calculation sir
Please dont dispute this I did it I swear with my life I need you to apologize for calling me a fool,419 thief and even saying im living the same life as hushpuppy

Your own case is severe because you are a troll. Someone told me they built houses with 400k and I should swallow the prevarication hook, line and sinker? So if someone comes to you now and says they purchased a second hand Bugatti for N1M you won't doubt it?

Pray, tell me when your parents built houses with less than 400k? 1970s or 80s? Which means they were amongst the richest Nigerians of their day or don't you know that that is the implication of your statement?

Do you realize that as far back as 1999-2005 Nigerian budget for roads used to be in millions of naira but today every single project is in billions. Do you think?

ok enough of all this let me break it down for you one by one

1year I saved 3.6million I put this money in treasury bills I was given 360000 = 3960,000

2nd year I saved 3600000 +3960000 =7560000 treasury bill 756000=8316000

3rd year I saved 3600000+8316000=11916000+ tbills 1191600= 13107600

4th year I saved 3600000+13107600 =16707600+tbills 1670760=18378360

5th year I saved 3600000+18378360=21978360+tbills 2197836= 24,176,196

I bought a land for 14million I buillt my 3 bedroom flat with around 5million (then 6inch block was 120 cement was 1200 to 1300) I am left with 5 million I bought a car 1,850,000 left with 3million used it to start the other flats for tenants four years after I am almost done I will rent those flat for 800k each 3bedroom

now please I want you all to dispute this I am tired of all of you telling me its not possible this is something I did wella
abi you want to tell me an area where you buy a plot for 14million 5 years ago is not an ok area or where you let out 800k for 3bedroom in lagos is not good enough and mimd you some go for 1-1.2mil its just because of ky space thats why I am letting it that price

thats the calculation over to you all

You are just bloviating. A medical doctor in the US bought 2 plots of land in Royal Garden Estate in Ajah for 40M a plot in 2013. Today that same plot goes for 55M up. He is one of 4 Medical doctors I know from the US who purchased property from that same estate. How many Nigerian Doctors can afford it?

A friend of mine went to Uni of California Davies for her MBA. This was in 2012. By 2014 she was done and got a job with Amazon in the US. She lives in Silicon Valley and earns $120k+ a year. Last year she acquired a 4-bedroom condo close to Igbuefon (Lekki Phase 1 axis) for over 25M and she has rented it out. LOL. She is working on a property over in the US which she plans to rent out too and she would do this later in the year.

You have property? You earn 400k? LOL. Stop talking like a child. I can deluge this thread with stories of people I know over in US and Canada who came back and purchased properties that they have rented out and guess what? Most of them are borderline average in the US but seem to be giants in Nigeria because of the exchange rate.

Keep seeing life from one viewpoint and be arguing like you have it figured out. People who earn 1.5M a month in Shell and Total are still trying to relocate to Canada and someone earning 800k in 2021 thinks he is a big boy. It will shock him.

I called whoever made a decision based on the assumptions above a fool and if the shoe fit you, then you should wear it.

You said we should peg the dollar at N200? Why not N1 as that is what it was in the late 80s? Do you see how stoopid your assumption sounds? If you do not know what value the $ will be to the N then any sensible person will do what they call an extrapolation. They would not sit down with their tecno phone and conjure up rubbish figures just to score cheap points.

What kind of house will he buy with $120k? Go to google and do some research. His $120k house will be better than what people pay N75M for in Lekki phase 1. Apart from that, he would have the liberty of paying for that house through mortgage which will provide him more resource-space to do more things with his money.

Did you look at the link you posted up there? What is the average salary for a nurse? See, I don't want to sound harsh but you are leaving me no options. You have built your own house and have one for tenants. Where? In Iyanoba? Mushin? Ajegunle? Mowé? Berger? Those are the only places you would have done that and that is as good as a Frog thinking it is a wild animal. In other words, you are deceiving yourself that you are rolling high. You are just scrubbing a bucket- no offense.

But if your argument is that you are hushpupi or any other yahoo boy then you have a point. If you swindle some maga over in the US or Canada and get some foreign exchange you can build something, rent out and then tell people you saved for it while you where in your parent's house. People tell those confabulations even today.

You changed cars on 400k a month, Saving 300k out of it per month which totalled up to 18M and you built houses and made other expenses? Did you also turn water to wine, raise the dead and feed 5000 men (excluding women and children)?

Mr. YoungestLand, I would not be surprised if you claimed you did all these as well because anything is possible on the internet when you are lying.

I made my decision on this calculation and today I dont regret
you dont have to call me a fool because I did not do otherwise l dont know how to exchange abusive words with people so I wont go that way it just show how low one can be

when I made this calculation the dollar to naira was not even up to 150 so I used 200 just incase

please show me the kind of house I will get with 120kdollars

Please the link I posted didnt go above 37,000 dollars a year what made it more was overtime etc
like I said you dont read to understand or you would ask me to tell you how I could able to have a house in a good location in lagos with my income

let me give a clue so you go home and do the maths yourself
firtsly you dont know how many years I am right now, do you think I will still be on 400k in my job by now after all these years... there is no way I would have saved only 18million after 5 years even if I put that money every year in treasury bills it will be more than 18milion after 5 years which I have worked more than 5 years now and my income is more than what I calculated then. Its stranged to you abi..... legal boy building in nigeria oga not all boys are extravagant and pls have you ever met a PERFECTIONIST with a die hard goal please I am one and let me tell you something if I get to 40 still in my job and I dont have something worth more than 40million I can commit suicide thats a perfectionist for you

Oga I am living witness I did it and anyone can do it legally if its strange to yo too bad

quote author=Eruditor post=56280344]

1. A man (25 years old) spent 100k but saved 300k per month out of his 400k salary. His parents let him stay with them for 5 years. He saves N18M if he is calculating 5 years from now, he has no idea what value the money will be but he stays put. Meanwhile, N26M which was $130k in 2014 is about $67k today (3 years after).

2. Now 30 years old, he decides to rent a house. So instead of saving 300k he saves 200k and spends 200k a month. How much is rent a year? His expenses per year due to the rent? His feeding? His furniture? Somoehow he does not care about all this. He robotically saves 200k a month for the next 10 years and now has 24M to add to his 18M. Bear in mind, he is 40 now. Unmarried. Or married without paying school fees, buying a car or taking care of his wife etc. So he is now 40 and has 42M saved and this 10 more years gone. He does not consider that his 42M which was worth $210k in 2014 maybe worth $105k 15 years later.

3. He believes that money can get him a good piece of land and enough to build something for himself and tenants 15 years from now. When politicians are already buying 4 bedroom condominiums in Ikoyi for $1.658M. When plots of land in Ajah go for 15-25M a plot (in unroaded estates). The only place that 40 year old man maybe able to afford a plot of land 15 years from now will be in Ajegunle, Olodi Apapa, Oshodi etc. He is really planning well.

4. The flipside has someone who went to US to read nursing for a whopping 5 years etc and then gets a job. But Mr Calculator assumes such a person will earn $3k a month which is 36k a year (meanwhile Nurses on average earn 70-110k a year). Meanwhile retired ratings in US earn a non-taxable pension of $2k a month. When Facebook interns earn $8k a month. But Mr. Calculator claims nurses earn $3k a month. LOL.

5. Let us assume his figures are right and the nurse saves 1k a month. In 10 years time, the $120k he has saved is still better than the $105k that Mr 42M savings would have had and if we assume that the $ will be at the N400/$ that it is today 10 years from now, that $120k will be 48M. But remember, that nurse with 10 years of experience will be earning way more than $3k a month but Mr Calculator does not consider it at all.

6. Mr fake Calculator is not wiser. He is actually a fool. He makes wrong projections with wrong values and assumes wishful thinking will make up the deficit. He will wake up age 40 and realize he made a foolish decision and you know what they say about fools at 40?

7. Bankers, Oil workers even hardworking average Joes in US and better developed countries do own their own houses and experience a better quality of life. That proportion is not the same in Nigeria at all. Yes, most oil workers (IOCs and NOCs like NNPC, DPR etc) have theirs at age 40 yes. But bankers are few and far between with a greater proportion living below 400k a month and in rented apartments. The spread and stats just demonstrate that on average, the quality of life favors the person in the US and not the Nigerian.

8. In conclusion, it was good you did not leave for the US as the US does not need your miscalculations and false narratives. Please stay back in Nigeria and "hustle" waiting by and by that one day you'd be appointed the DG of NIA so you can pocket $43M and hide it in your Ikoyi condo. Do not create fake stories to hoodwink an unsuspecting person asking for advice. Thanks.[/quote]

What are you saying absolute rubbish........ you just wasted your time writting this please go back and read carefully again and bros we are not fighting

let me help you small because I dont know how to start I just tire

the man in usa will also have some major or minor expenses too he too will get married he will give birth to children he will also buy cars etc
And please I said let us peg the dollar at 200naira because no one knows what the value will be in 15 years time........and his salary will not remain 400k for 15years now and the same thing applies to the nurse in usa what kind of house will he buy with 120k dollars in usa ........quality of life I can agree with you sir

please people read and understand my calculation, very few people I see understand....
No one is even sure of his life for 15years anything can happen we are just saying
http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Registered_Nurse_(RN)/Hourly_Rate/b6142914/Entry-Level
thats the average salary for a fresh nurse and mr I am not a fool because I did this same calculation when I was 25 and I am not yet 40 I stay in my own built house and presently have another one going for tenants so by the time I am 40 I am too sure I would have passed the 42million mark...... I still changed cars o, and did some expenses. You guys dont know the power of saving and investing
