ProgrammingRe: Python Bumps Off Java As Top Learning Language by youngestpr(m): 6:26am On Jul 26, 2014
asalimpo: IN hundred years time they'll be people making a living maintaing java code's written in our generation.
so, for this reason universities 3 generations from today should spoon feed their students java?
dyu know any startup writing software in BASIC? There consultants making money writing ABAP/SAP software,
consultants making a killing writing COBOL, LISP developers are in demand- so what does that say?
they're museum's preserving fossils. too.
The cost of replacing the banking software is higher , than the cost of hiring a consultant to update them. or maybe
that's what it likely says. its not a statement about the superiority of old tech. But in the long run, this decision is
more expensive - why not write the software in a mainstream language, then higher cheaper labour to maintain it?!
Well if you don't agree with me I agree with you smiley

Javanian: They are programming languages used to introduce computer science student to basic programming concepts. I am yet to hear of any school home or abroad that teaches only QBasic and FORTRAN. Universities eventually teach the likes of C, C++, Java and Assembly at a later stage. The Computer science syllabubs is planned to accommodate students who are even yet to learn how to do a Cold Boot on Computer System talk more of writing a single line of code, hence the presence of computer appreciation courses in their first year in school.
Well i think you should take a look at the T24 banking software. You can't be really successful as a consultant if you do not understand BASIC. And you know what it means to be a Banking Software Consultant? Although the world might be rapidly moving away from those languages but those who are making the moves are doing so because they had a knowledge of the former and know what should be adjusted to form a new paradigm or language. I learnt Fortran while I was in school, now I use BASIC and JAVA and moving to GROOVY. I do not think any knowledge of any programming language is useless. The important part i think is that a programmer should be flexible and with an open mind to be able to switch whenever required. *Just my opinion*

Cool!
ProgrammingRe: Many Questions by youngestpr(m): 8:50pm On Jul 24, 2014
HTML + CSS = important and fundamental
javascript + jquery = perform the same functions, javascript is the foundation though.
JAVA + PHP + C++ = You may not have to learn the 3 languages, one might just be enough for you.
AJAX = this is not really a language, it is a concept, for example object oriented programming is also a concept. AJAX means Asynchronous JavaScript and XML.
I hope I have answered your question.

ProgrammingRe: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by youngestpr(m): 7:13pm On Jul 24, 2014
I would like to add an additional programming language that has now been formally accepted to integrate seamlessly with Java. It does not intend to replace java in anyway but i have used this language and it is damn powerful. It is groovy. There are some tasks that you use Java to achieve in more than ten lines, groovy will do the same in just like 2 or 3 lines...

ibnquasale: i am a very confused person when it comes to choosing an "appropriate" programming language cry cry. i know the gurus here can help me. i read statistics and maths.
my desire is to be able to design front ends for my databases, design GUIs and desktop applications that can also serve as front ends or data analysis applications.

i know little of PHP, Python, CSS, Mysql (through video tutorials). one of my main challenge is i don't know what to do with them, especially after learning the basis..... i don't mind being an apprentice to an expert here wink grin grin

thanks in advance.
Actually, the best way to learn is by being an apprentice and you are on the right path. I would want to state that designing front ends are majorly based on the use of scripting languages which are not 'fully' called programming languages. Popular ones are html + css while php stands somewhere between being a scripting or programming language. If you want to be able to design front ends, focus on html +css for a start, make sure you spend time on that and don't be distracted. You can always get to understand a little more after you have understood a little. There are tools which makes things easier but i just think you need a good foundation on those scripting stuff. In addition, successful guys are always willing to help especially when they know you really want to learn. I have loads to write but can't write all now, hope to help more...
