Politics / Yar'adua Travels To Saudi Arabia To "open A New University" While Nigerian Univ by yungwun(m): 1:10pm On Sep 22, 2009
It is official: Yar'Adua will be back to his favourite sick bed in Jeddah tomorrow. But his office said with a straight face in Abuja today his appearance in Saudi Arabia will be a "working visit."

The official statement also claimed that during the "visit," which will conclude on Saturday (wink, wink), Yar'Adua will participate in the opening of the new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and meet with the Nigerian community in Saudi Arabia.

Saharareporters broke the story about Yar’Adua’s new trip to Saudi Arabia last Friday, noting that his handlers were struggling to fashion out a passable excuse for the trip, in view of the fact that he was in the same country only weeks ago.

The ruse of an official visit is unlikely to appease Nigerians who know that Yar'Adua is usually rushed there when his finicky health takes another dip. Saharareporters can authoritatively reveal that Yar’Adua’s trip this week is again medical, and nothing else. The so-called invitation by the King of Saudi Arabia to open a university is an afterthought designed to fool an exasperated and cynical Nigerian public.

A close confidant of Yar’Adua told Sahararporters in New York that the idea of going to Saudi Arabia to open a university when Nigerians universities are under lock and key from a protracted lecturers strike is the "most stupid" alibi any leader can give for leaving Nigeria for Saudi Arabia. He also drew attention to the fact that New York is filling up with world leaders gathering for intense multilateral diplomatic work over the next two week in the interest of their nations and the world.

"That Yar'Adua is now trying to hoodwink Nigerians before the entire world is the biggest insult of all," he said.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Adebayor Row With Van Persie Started Over Boots: City Striker Will Drag Van Per by yungwun(m): 1:02pm On Sep 22, 2009
EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR'S feud with Robin van Persie began last season when he walked off with his strike partner's boots.

And the disgraced Adebayor will add insult to injury by dragging Van Persie into his battle with the FA.

The City striker was banned for three matches for raking Dutchman Van Persie's face with his studs during last week's explosive clash with Arsenal.

But the roots of their confrontation stretch back to the final day of last season when Adebayor scooped up boots and kit from the Arsenal dressing room.

The former Gunners striker walked into the home changing room at the Emirates with a bin liner and filled it with the boots of first team players.

Van Persie, who had scored twice in a 4-1 win against Stoke and intended to give his boots to friends as a momento, was livid.

He was stunned when a kitman told him that Adebayor had taken all the players' boots before leaving the Emirates for the last time.

Arsenal confirmed last night that Adebayor, who missed the game through injury, had taken the boots of several players.

A club official said: "Adebayor took all the boots from the dressing room without permission.

"He swept the dressing room."

Van Persie, along with skipper Cesc Fabregas and other Arsenal stars were told about the amazing incident by the kit men. By then Adebayor had already left the stadium with the boots and other items of kit that he had picked up off the dressing room floor.

Arsenal's backroom staff witnessed the extraordinary scenes, but were powerless to act.

And an Arsenal source said: "Normally at the end of the season players give their boots away to friends, family or a charity, but they couldn't because Ade had taken the lot.

"We never saw him - or the boots - again.

"Robin was going mad. They couldn't believe a team-mate earning £80,000 a week would do that."

When quizzed about the incident, Adebayor's agent Stephane Courbis claimed last night: "At the end of the season it is usual for players to take the materials they will not be using any more.

"A lot of African players take kit back to their country because the facilities and conditions in Africa are not the same as they are in England."

Meanwhile Adebayor has not finished with Van Persie yet.

The Togo international plans to put his ex-team-mate in the dock when his improper conduct charge for provocative goal celebrations in front of the Arsenal fans at Eastland's, is heard by the FA.

The City striker is putting together a DVD package of controversial goal celebrations ahead of his hearing.

Van Persie ran to the crowd after equalising for Arsenal in their 4-2 defeat at City last weekend, and was alleged to have mouthed obscenities at City supporters.

The Dutch striker has not been charged by the FA and also escaped punishment following his scathing statement about his former strike partner.

Adebayor will point out that he did not leave the field of play when he ran nearly 90 yards to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans after scoring City's third.

The City striker has been banned for three games - including today's Manchester derby at Old Trafford - following the raking incident with van Persie.

And as they club attempt to ensure their star striker won't face further sanction, they have trawled through the archives for evidence and discovered a similar incident involving Thierry Henry and Tottenham supporters.

Eagle-eyed City chiefs have footage of the former Arsenal striker scoring at Highbury in a North London derby seven years ago, back in November 2002.

Henry then ignored his team-mates' attempts to stop him, running 90 yards up the touchline before sliding to his knees in front of Spurs supporters in the Clock End.

Henry escaped an FA rap, despite calls from Spurs fans for immediate action, and Adebayor will argue that his own celebration was similar.

The former Arsenal captain has also joined the debate over Adebayor's behaviour and slammed his ex-team-mate's criticism of the Gunners and boss Arsene Wenger.

Henry said: "You have to remember - no matter where you end up in life - the people who helped make you along the way and gave you the chance.

"I won the treble with Barcelona last year, but I know if it wasn't for Arsene and Arsenal I would not be the player I am today.

"I think the same has to be true of Adebayor. He might be one of the world's top strikers today but he wasn't before Arsene got hold of him and gave him that chance.

"When he came from Monaco he wasn't even getting games back in France and then, within two seasons, he was a player who was wanted by a lot of top clubs in Europe.

"Arsene puts a lot of investment in you when he sees talent and I don't think it would hurt for Adebayor to show him, the club and the fans a little more respect.

"The fans at Arsenal were great, they were and always will be my family.

"I never saw them behave badly, so to react like they did at the weekend shows just how angry and upset they were.

"They will you show you love and respect, but like any relationship they will ask for that love and respect back.

"No matter what Adebayor's emotions were he could have earned himself a lot of respect by not celebrating the goal.

"That would have shown real class, and that to be honest is what most players choose to do when they score against their old clubs, and I don't really understand why he didn't do that."

SANTA BARBARA, CA-During a search for evidence at the Neverland Valley Ranch, investigators discovered a corpse that has been identified as that of Michael Jackson, Santa Barbara police officials announced Tuesday.

"Coroners have officially pronounced Michael Jackson dead. From what we can tell, he died between 18 and 20 years ago," forensic investigator Tim Holbrooke said. "We are not certain, at this time, who-or what-has been standing trial in that Santa Maria courthouse."
According to Holbrooke, Jackson's corpse was buried just inches below a stretch of the miniature-train tracks that run throughout Neverland. The largely desiccated corpse wore the remains of a red, zipper-covered leather jacket and a single glove.
"We positively identified the body as Jackson by his dental records and DNA," Holbrooke said. "But even before we conducted a single forensic test, we began to suspect that that we'd uncovered the real Michael, and that the disturbing figure claiming to be Jackson was a fake."
Holbrooke said that, although the corpse was in an advanced stage of decomposition, when investigators compared the body to early-career publicity photos of Jackson, they saw a striking resemblance in bone structure and facial features. But when they compared the body to photos taken after 1987, the resemblance was negligible.
"This discovery raises a lot of questions, but it also sheds light on a number of disturbing incidents," Holbrooke said. "Frankly, Jackson had been acting pretty strange."

Above: Investigators move Jackson's body, found buried at Neverland Ranch (above).
Forensic experts and music critics are postulating that Jackson was dead before the release of the multi-platinum album Bad. Detectives are currently analyzing the lyrics to "Man In The Mirror" for any clues relating to a look-alike entity that many suspect murdered the youngest member of the Jackson 5 and assumed his identity.
"We believe that Neverland served as some sort of freakishly whimsical tomb constructed by Jackson's killer," Holbrooke said. "We also suspect that all of the iniquities that occurred on that ranch were the work of the imposter. I wouldn't have ever thought it possible, but we are looking at a situation where the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old cancer patient is the tip of the iceberg."
Holbrooke said that, while the living Jackson is the leading suspect in the murder investigation, he "could be another victim of some sort."
"Basically, we have no idea what type of creature we are dealing with," Holbrooke said.
A member of the investigative team that discovered Jackson's body described the experience as "otherworldly."
"As we neared the perimeter of Neverland, the dogs started whining and howling like crazy," Santa Barbara County detective Frank Poeller said. "We had to pull them into the house. When we got to Jackson's bedroom, one of them almost choked himself to death on his leash trying to get out through the window. Minutes later, the same dog led us to the corpse."
A representative from Jackson's self-created label, MJJ Productions, said he was not surprised to find out that the current Jackson is an imposter.
"When we were recording 'Heal The World' for Dangerous, I could tell something was terribly, terribly wrong," MJJ manager Luke Allard said. "Michael didn't seem like himself anymore. He'd demand bizarre food and sit for hours in a hyperbaric chamber. His appearance began to become more and more peculiar. Soon afterwards, he started wearing a mask and confiding in a chimpanzee."
"I remember thinking, 'This man has become a monster,'" Allard said. "If only I'd known how right I was."

Above: The creature that claims to be Michael Jackson.
Allard said he thinks that the imposter broke ties with Jackson's former friends and surrounded himself with children who were too young to notice the radical change.
Vanity Fair reporter Beth Pither visited Neverland in 1994.
"A strangely fearful staff member led me to Jackson, but ran off before I opened the door," Pither said. "Standing there with my hand on an ice-cold doorknob, I heard strange, unnatural sounds-leathery wings flapping, a sorrowful wail, and loud hissing. A wave of dread passed through me as I opened the door, but all I found was Michael and some kids in pajamas eating ice cream and watching 101 Dalmatians."
While their claims have not been corroborated, other Neverland visitors have reported that when when Jackson entered a room, lights flickered, faucets ran blood-red, and screams escaped from the walls.
To aid in the investigation, the FBI enlisted Dr. Richard Weingarden, a noted expert on the paranormal from UC Santa Barbara. After only two hours, Weingarden abandoned the project.
"The smell of sulfur, the decaying facial features, the bizarrely high-pitched voice-it sounds exactly like, " Weingarden said, trailing off. "I'm sure it's nothing. Not a big deal. Nothing to be terrified about, certainly. I have to go. I've got a family."
Thomas Sneddon, the prosecutor in Jackson's child-molestation lawsuit, said it remains to be seen how the shocking discovery will affect the trial.
Megan Gustafson, who left her post as president of the Akron, OH Michael Jackson Fan Club after the singer was accused of molestation, offered a positive view of the grisly revelation.
"This is very disturbing news," Gustafson said. "But to be honest, it's kind of a relief too. Thriller and Off The Wall are really amazing records. Now I can pull them out of my 'ruined by child abuse' storage bin and start listening to them again."

It is so funny when two grown men behave like a couple of antsy old hags.
I also take serious exception to OGS' manner and tone of speech.
For someone who is a 'financial analyst', the speed at which you resorted to gutter language and expletives leaves so little to be desired. I expected a certain level of decorum from you and to say the very least, you actually gave a very bad impression of yourself, first as a human being, secondly as a man, and lastly as a thoroughbred professional that you are supposed to be. Unless you are not. Mentioning Pwc, accenture, etc does not validate who you are.
what do you think people who are working for fortune 500 companies would say, if you are already being a loud mouth with accenture?

@ Tk and Doc, you both sounded reasonable at first, so I was perturbed when you decided to trade a few words with Ogs.
Guys, there are more serious issues to talk about than this.
You guys succeeded in skewing this post from the original purpose to these exchanges.

Politics / Petrol Pump Price Now N65 Per Litre. by yungwun(m): 2:19pm On Jan 23, 2009
[b]I don't know if this is as a result of the reduced global price for oil. I don't know how much a barrel of oil is at this time, but I know it was $43.67, 17 hours ago. If the price of a barrel of oil increases, maybe up to what it was in July 2008; $147, will the pump price of petrol go up again?

The article below was culled from today's issue of the Sunday Sun.

[b]
Against the backdrop of the sliding prices of crude and refined petroleum products at the global market, the Federal Government yesterday announced a reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). It is now to sell at N65 as against N70.

A statement issued by Mr. Yusuf Mu’azu, said the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) “decided to substitute the fixed price with a recommended price in order to pass on the benefit of this drop in price to the Nigerian public.”

The full text of the statement of the PPRA management reads:
“Following the downward trend in the prices of crude and refined petroleum products at the international market, a development that has brought the open market pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) below the current price of N70.00k, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), in line with its statutory mandate, has decided to substitute the fixed price with a recommended price in order to pass on the benefit of this drop in price to the Nigerian public.

In this regard, it is recommended that all petroleum marketers take a cue on the open market reference price level for petrol – the average for the one-month period specified - from the PPPRA’s posted price on its website or as published in the national dailies.

Based on current market fundamentals, the indicative open market pump price of petrol for the month of January is N65.00k. All petroleum marketers are enjoined to comply with this price immediately. The PPPRA, using its automatic price adjustment mechanism, shall be posting on its website, as well as announcing and publishing in the media the indicative price of petrol on monthly basis.

The PPPRA will continue to liaise with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to ensure that petroleum marketers do not engage in profiteering by selling above the upper limit of the open market price monitored by the Agency.”

You guys are just skewing this discussion out of context, maybe because, you think you are not concerned. Probably, if you had a 3rd class, you will be more considerate in the way and manner that you spew forth all the gibberish from your mouth. Chevron did this, chevron did that. bloody hell!!
Anyway, I believe everyone's destiny is in his or her hands. If you decide to sit back and wail because you graduated with a 3rd class, oh well. But if you decide to work hard to improve yourself, I promise you, God will give you that one chance to have one good shot at that dream job. Just ask for the grace to see that chance when it comes.
Whether Elumelu made 3rd class or not is actually immaterial. His destiny is not tied to any other person's. he is who he is, you are who you are, chikena!

What I think the poster was trying to get was this: If Tony Elumelu graduated with a 3rd class, no biggie, a lot of people did, but at least someone gave him a chance to prove himself. WHY IS HE NOT GIVING OTHER 3RD CLASS HOLDERS A CHANCE AT UBA?
what if he was sent away because he had a 3rd class? Where do you think he would have been?

Apart from being serious in school, a lot of issues can contribute to someone's grade. I worked all nights, Sunday to Sunday, from 6pm to 6 am in order to pay my fees and my sister's too. I will get off work at 6.30 am, fly that early morning okada ( those early rides, that tears will dripping from your eyes cos of the early morning wind), get home, shower and hit the class for a 7.15am lecture. I know I slept through most of the lectures. I graduated with a 2:2 when I could have made the a first class comfortably if the conditions were different. It is not affecting me now because I was given an opportunity in a fortune 500 company and it took just 2 months for me to prove myself.

I had a classmate who was delayed after graduating in 2003 from going for the mandatory NYSC, because a lecturer suspected he dated a female student that he was interested in. The lecturer in a show of power, deleted his records and the guy who was supposed to graduate with a 2:1, graduated with a 3rd class.

So if chances can be given to people no matter their grades, this will never be an issue.
Yes we know that outside of Nigeria, companies stand in line to pick the best graduating students, yet chances are given to the rest to still prove their mettle.
