Now juzme has an important point there: no country is a good or safe place for illegal immigrants. You will have problems everywhere. So be careful. If you can stand the weather, Norway isn't that bad. My opinion about Denmark is just from a tourist point of view. I have visited both Germany and Denmark many times, but never lived in either one. Being a tourist is so different. I can only tell what I've seen and heard. Also have an African friend living in Copenhagen (legally) and he likes it down there. But like juzme I do not want encourage illegal migration because it not only causes problems for the person involved but also for all the others who are coming to Europe to study, work or to be reunited with their families.

For mi 2010 I wish all the best. Take care dear, keep ur spirit up and be strong! smiley

mi 2010: Hi. I'm happy to hear u are ok. Me too, just being busy with life. U asked which is better Germany or Denmark. Both are probably difficult, but Denmark used to be more "liberal" for immigrants. The general problem all over the Europe is that "the climate" is against immigrants. The regression caused lot of unemployment and raised the popularity of the radical parties of the right wing. Politics and money never care about humanity.

unipol: Yes, I'm happily married, but I don't think that affect my ability to tell my opinions or give the little advice that might help.  wink

@ tim2: Thanks for today's best joke!! grin grin grin grin I'm not a police immigration officer. I don't think immigration officers have time or need to chat on forums (and they probably know already all the stories anyway).

Besides I have my own battle going on with the immigration service. angry The illegal immigration is a problem for all those that who try to immigrate legally. That's why it's better if everyone tries to follow the rules.

@ mi2010: No dear, i'm not a nigerian, I'm a Finn and getting married soon with a half-nigerian. grin Just came across this site when searching some music for my man and ended up reading these stories.

A correction to that statement of mine: 2500 euros is average of all the salaries. Unfortunately most blacks here are earning much less than that. It is difficult to get a well paid job if u don't speak finnish. So even if u have a good education, u still might end up cleaning offices or restaurants and earning less than 2000 euros. And remember u have to pay taxes out of that, so what u get into ur hand is much less.

@ Mi 2010 : Thank you for ur kind words. No, I'm not a student anymore. I live in Finland, I was born here. That's why u might notice the little pessimism in my words.

Like all around the Europe there is a recession in the Finnish economy too. It's getting better day by day, but still the unemployment figures are quite desperate to look at. The average salary is around 2500 euros, but remember that there are some really high salaries that rise that average and most of the people earn much less than that. And while it may sound like a nice salary, the living costs are high also.

Norway and Finland share few hundred kilometres of borderline up in the north. More information about seeking asylum u can get from here http://www.pakolaisneuvonta.fi/index_html?lang=eng
Read it carefully and think twice, maybe seeking asylum is not the best way to get into Europe, not to Scandinavia anyway.

Whatever u decide: Good luck and God bless you!

Helsinki, Finland wink

"Is Finland a good country?" Depends on what is a good country. undecided

Finland is fairly safe, clean, advanced and civilized country. Standard of living is high, but living costs, food, fuel, clothes, cars, basicly everything is expensive. Taxation is one of the highest in Europe. But then u get almost free health service & all sort of support from the goverment, if u happen to be justified to get any.
People are a bit weird around here. grin Friendly when u get to know them well, but shy and introverted at first. Unfortunately due to the recession racism is rising again and there are too many narrow-minded people.
Weather and the 4 seasons (loooooong winter!) are one of the most difficult things to handle. Of course it is a question of right attitude. grin grin grin

@poster  As wise boys here have already advised you, think twice before seeking asylum in Norway. Or any Scandinavian country,  or Europe. You will not get resident permit that way. Too many have tried and all of them failed. And I'm not sure Frankky's idea of faking to be a gay helps u. There is a similar case here in Finland (a gay from Gambia seeking asylum) and it's not looking very good for him either.

Getting a job in Norway (or any Scandinavian country) is difficult if u don't speak the local language. U might get a job as cleaner or dish washer, but living with that salary in these very expensive countries,  not really a dream come true.

Like brothers here have told u, finding a woman, getting married and maybe even having a child, might sound an easy and quick solution for getting the resident permit. But not even that procedure is 100% certain. There are plenty of men who have tried that and failed. We blond blue-eyed women may be foolish and fall for sweet talking, but our authorities are not and if they get a slightest suspicion of fake marriage, it's bye-bye.

I agree with Frankky: Take risks but please take risks that are legal.  smiley

These might be helpful when thinking of Finland

The resident permit for studying might not be that difficult to get (it is!! just read the topic about swedish visa and consider the same procedure with finnish embassy), but remaining after studies,  well, there is basicly 2 options: get a job or get married.  grin

But do u really wanna stay? Just think about the 5 months long freezing cold and totally without daylight wintertime.  This is no paradise!  cool
