Dramadiddy: yeah but you know there are voicings, there are a lot of power chords.. the main aim of this method is to play one chord in so many ways. For example, do you know you can play a Cmaj13 like this : C E A//D G B. It's a lot of work but there's a lot of musical things you can do with this
yeah, I like this arrangement, where you can play a triad with the right hand. when you say a lot of musical things, can you give an example.
gameboi: @dramadiddy I know of chord substitution very well. I use them particularly in opening up chords. @Karleb The only hymn I know is 'Let us with a gladsome mind'. I'll try to get the rest from a Music sheet. @Zbone DeHero1 Happy New Year.
Dramadiddy: by repositioning the notes of the initial chord, when you reposition it, especially changing the bass note, it becomes a new chord.. Not really new because u know how you formed it, but if you try naming the new chord,, u ll discover its no more the name u knew it as.. Just think about it very well, you'll understand
so when you reposition notes in a chord, I'm guessing not all of them will fit in properly, so its kinda like a trial and error sort of thing?
Dramadiddy: The next one I wanna explain is harmonic substitution by "harmonic content". I love this style cos it makes your chords sound so different when it's actually the same thing. I love using this method on big chords tho, so I can have different chords out of one chord. So how does this work?
let's take Cdom 13 which is C E G Bb D A I can change the notes of this chord so it looks like its a different chord
I can play it as G D A // C E G Bb (Gmin13) A E G C // E G Bb D (min11b9)
so in this case one chord is turning into different things.. And it sounds sounds fuller with the bass in too.. Cheers
Pianistsegz200: Happy new year to all my boss in d house...being a while thank God for bringing us back together. Just wanna post some of my video links here for intermediate to spice up ur piano style as a Gospel Musician. Remain blessed...
i think you did right. what if you allowed him, and one of them passes out or dies while doing the deed, and the other leaves your house with the mess that has been created without telling you. we hear of stories like this often. if the cops come around, they no go hear strorryy o.
Karleb: abi you wan try the question? Remember, it's a 5 unit course.
lol this question wey u set no easy Mr Examiner
really, there is nothing lyk worship chords per say. Its all about creating a worshipful feeling, so whatever bunch of chords help you to achieve dat could be termed worship chords. there are gospel chords on the other hand, common in black american church music. they have this 'dark feeling' if I could use dat expression, about them and are instantly recognisable. gospel uses a lot of diminished chords, tritones, clusters, ditones etc. and the chords are usually closely knit. hope this answers ur question.
Karleb: Like that tye tribbett bless the lord's bass guitarist, give me five seconds on a piano and I'll decode it.
thats great but how about decoding it without the piano. u might not be hundred percent at first but over time you build the skill. you could also learn melodic intervals, I don't know if dats the right term but basically melodic patterns.
@dramadiddy pls take a look at this gospel cover of the song 'how great is our God'. the guy used some very nice devices in the song. i haven't scored it yet, but I think I'll get it. just in case I don't ? pls help look it up cheers!
Dramadiddy: Yes yes.. Zbone remember that varieties video? I just scored the great is thy faithfulness part.. The guy try sha o but it was simple naa i started around after 3 and i finished by this time.. I think say something dey the song sef mschew
na serious work you do o, for dat crazy guy work. anyway sha well done.
Dramadiddy: Karleb remember that video about simon keys?...I watched it and I understood what he said...he was teaching how to improvise using chord tones, that is improvising on the notes of whatever chord he's playing in his left hand...and he gave examples of things to do when improvising, they are called transition notes just as we have passing chords...so the examples are(according to how he said it) :
So if u have a maj7..so u ll apply all these to the notes of the chord and switch between different styles when improvising, he even did "test-drive" and it worked..but I added something...modes...i can use these techniques to improvise but I try to make sure the notes I land on are notes of the mode
that below and above notes idea work mehn. I'm learning to use them.
Dramadiddy: Finally my video is on youtube, very big step but well its here...zbone nd some guys i promised videos...the issue is, im not always in church and when im there, there won't really be someone to hold the camera..looking for another alternative sha http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=YFBDSf6ST3A
its a really big step you've taken, kudos. i enjoyed it even though I've seen it before. wishing you bigger and better progress in the coming year. merry Christmas to everyone

@karleb check out this man called "anthony burger" he plays for gaither. He does many styles. And from your posts, I guess you're a classical piano player.
