The Netherlands government has approved 400, 000 Euros for the Federal Government to embark on the National Livestock Transformation Programme (NLTP) in Nasarawa State.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, disclosed this on Monday, at the Government House, Lafia, while on a two-day working visit to Nasarawa State.

Alhaji Nanono, while noting that the country has been toying with the issue of livestock development, which resulted into misconceptions about the NLTP, confirmed that funding for the project has been approved by the Netherlands government and that the Federal Government will embark on a pilot project in Nasarawa State.

The Minister further disclosed that with Nigeria having over 33trn varieties of livestock ranging from cattle, pigs, poultry, sheep, goats, camels, horses, among others, the country cannot afford to play with this national assets.

Commenting on the purpose of his visit to Nasarawa State, the agriculture Minister, said he was in the state to supervise five rural roads built by his ministry across the state.

While higlighting on the signigicance of agriculture to the development of the country, Alhaji Nanono lamented however that the sector has been neglected through the years, except with the coming of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, which is prioritizing agriculture.

The Minister pointed out that with the world now focusing on agriculture, it has become paramount that the country appreciates the opportunities inherent in the sector, especially that Nigeria's growing population is pegged at 400m in the next 30 years.

He said his ministry attaches so much importance to Nasarawa State, in terms of agricultural development, as well as its potentials, ranking the state first in terms of diversity of various agricultural products, with potentials not only for promoting and ensuring food security in the country, but also for export.

The Minister added that Nasarawa State has also been selected among states that will benefit from the agricultural mechanization policy of the Federal Government, with arrangement finalized for the pilot mechanization in 632 LGAs completed.

"Nasarawa State has the potential for creating a strong relationship between agriculture and the industrial sector. And we have already started seeing some signs. And we are going to promote it in that regard," the Minister stated.

He announced that as part of the FG's programme of economic sustainability, for which N600bn was approved as support for small scale farmers, his ministry has registered over 78, 000 farmers in the state, with another 23, 000 registered for the dry season farming covering about 2, 400 hectares of land.

The Minister further disclosed that the FG will engage youths, in collaboration with universities for the production of export crops, stressing that Nasarawa State has been slated to produce soya beans for export.

Responding, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, said the vision of his administration is perfectly in line with that of President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as it relates to food security.

According to Engineer Sule, in Nasarawa State, agriculture is seen as a business, an opportunity for employment and industrialization.

The Governor noted that with over 80 percent of the population of the state involved in one form of agriculture or the other, coupled with his knowledge of agriculture from his experience at the Dangote Sugar Refinery, he is convinced that Nasarawa can be another India or Brazil, when it come to agriculture.

While thanking the Minister for selecting Nasarawa State for the youth empowerment scheme for the production of soya beans for export, Engineer Sule appealed to the ministry to also consider the production of yams and cassava for export.

The Governor identified four major agricultural companies in the state, which when fully operational, will boost the economic development of the state.

He explained that Dangote Group acquired 68, 000 hectares of land, which will translate to 400, 000 metric tons of sugar, representing one-third of the sugar consumption of the country, in addition to generating 96 megawatts of power, as well as 2500 litres of ethanol.

"But the most importantly, the project will generate employment for over 30, 000 for our people," he said.

The Governor added that other companies like Olams, sitting on 10, 000 hectares but cultivating 5000 hectares, has over 2,500 employees, the Azman Rice, sitting on 14, 000 hectares, with the Flour Mills of Nigeria also concluding arrangement to take over 20, 000 hectares of land in Toto Local Government Area, setting aside 10, 000 hectares for rice production and another 10, 000 for cassava.

"If we have these four majors, then we are going to concentrate more on our outgrowers that will be able to feed these major operations," Engineer Sule said.

Gemany-based agro manufacturing firm, Reila to establish assembly plant in Nasarawa

A post-harvest technology manufacturing company based in Germany, Reila, has identified Nasarawa State as location for establishing an assembly plant in Nigeria.

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, disclosed this shortly after a demonstration by the firm of its post-harvest implements at Shabu Farms, in Agwada Development Area, on Saturday.

Engineer Sule who couldn't hide his excitement, showed appreciation to the Emir of Keffi, HRH Dr. Shehu Usman Yamusa, for initiating the idea, as well as the first civilian governor of the state, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, for making his farm available to carry out the demonstration.

According to the Governor, the arrival of Reila will afford Nasarawa State the opportunity to carry out post-harvest operation, which will help farmers in the state cut loses incurred as a result of harvest.

"The biggest part, is the fact that the company has identified Nasarawa State as a place where they will set up their manufacturing site, where the assembly of agricultural implements will be carried out," he stated.

Engineer Sule described the decision by the Germany based company, which in coming to Nigeria, identified Nasarawa State as its location, as a big push for his administration, considering the importance it attached to attracting investors to the state.

"This is really a big push for us. That's why I selected today to come and see this demonstration myself, because both the Emir of Keffi, as well as our former governor, are attracting the kind of investment our administration is looking forward to, especially in agriculture," he said.

The Governor further explained that, his administration will also acquire some of the implements, to lease it out at a subsidized rate, to local farmers who may not afford the cost of buying the equipment.

"The intention is not for the Nasarawa State Government to make money out of it, but we will save our farmers from post-harvest loses. Once they are able to save such loses, we will be empowering our people economically," Engineer Sule said.

Also speaking, representative of Reila in Nigeria, Abba Kyari Wujema, said the company which specializes in efficient grains management during harvest, discovered that over 30 percent of grains in Nigeria are lost after harvest, mostly because of poor post-harvest management.

According to Wujema, RIELA® deals with the development of plants for grain processing and is today one of the major suppliers of complete after-harvest-technology plants. Cleaning, drying, storage of assorted grain, maize, rice, oil fruits and legumes.

PoliticsWhy We Introduced Qualifying Exams For Directors Seeking To Become Permanent Sec by Zeegu(op): 8:06am On Jan 08, 2021
WHY WE INTRODUCED QUALIFYING EXAMS FOR DIRECTORS SEEKING TO BECOME PERMANENT SECRETARIES - Engineer Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has given reasons why his administration introduced qualifying examination for directors seeking to become permanent secretaries, stressing that the move was aimed at setting a solid foundation for a virile state civil service.

Engineer Sule stated this while being presented with a report by the committee constituted to conduct examination for eligible directors for appointment into the post of permanent secretaries in the state public service, at the Government House, on Thursday.

While noting that the civil service in Nasarawa State presently is weak, in spite of the work being carried out by the state Head of Civil Service, the Governor said the decision to set qualifying examination for directors seeking to become permanent secretaries, was in a bid to restructure the civil service and to restore it to its past glory.

According to Engineer Sule, without a virile and committed civil service, all the investments the administration is trying to attract and all the development efforts, cannot be achieved.

The Governor however assured that, with the nature of appointments in the state, other considerations, aside the examination, will also play critical role in the selection of the permanent secretaries.

"What we are trying to do, based on my knowledge of administration, is to have some guidance, that the people we are selecting have capacity.

"In selecting, it's not only the outcome of the examination that is being considered, there are other considerations. We have to have representation from different part of the state. And I have no doubt that in every local government that you go, you will find persons with capacity," he stated.

Engineer Sule used the opportunity to also comment on insinuations that his administration is setting up too many committees, stressing that committees are useful in guiding the administration to do things right.

He pointed out that setting up committees is not necessarily because the administration didn't know what to do.

"The easiest thing to do while selecting directors who will become permanent secretaries, is for the Governor to sit down and look at all the directors and other people in the civil service and appoint some of them, as provided by the law.

"But if I want to do it right, it's to go by setting up committee, because members of the committee know the directors better," Engineer Sule said.

The Governor further assured that his administration will sustain these two strategies, of setting qualifying examination, as well as referring to people with more experience in the appointment of permanent secretaries and other government officials in that cadre, at least for guidance which will help the state government gets the best for the state.

The Governor thanked the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, who was Acting Governor while Engineer Sule was away on vacation and for identifying with the members of the committee, the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barrister Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu, as well as members of the committee for doing a wonderful job.

Earlier, while presenting the report, Chairman of the committee, Jonah Ogbole, described the exercise, being the first of its kind in history of state, as a revolution.

According to Ogbole, who was a one time Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, without the civil service, there is nothing that can be done.

He commended the Governor for the initiative, adding that there are only few states in the country, aside the federal government, where such innovation has been contemplated.

"We want to give you credit for this. It's a very big event, it's a revolution," he stated.

In her opening remarks, National Chairperson of the TUC women wing, Hafsat Shuaibu, commended the Governor for carrying women along in his administration.

Mrs. Shuaibu said the TUC women wing decided to come to Nasarawa State to hold its annual seminar, with women drawn across the 36 states and the FCT, mostly because of the Governor's records of achievements.

She however appealed to Engineer Sule to implement the new national minimum wage, as well as settle the salary arrears of some civil servants in the state.

Engineer Sule restates commitment to support persons willing to develop Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has restated the commitment of his administration to support individuals coming into Nasarawa to further develop the state.

Engineer Sule made the commitment during the foundation laying ceremony for the Brekete Family Smart City project, in Gurku, Karu Local Government Area, on Wednesday.

The Governor, while commending the Brekete Family for initiating the project, aimed at providing housing for low and middle income earners, said his administration will continue to support the initiative, which is in line with the policy thrust of his administration.

Engineer Sule however appealed to the owners of the project, to ensure that only ordinary people, who have no hope of owning their houses, are allowed to benefit from the project.

The Governor used the opportunity to assure Nigerians that in spite of the security challenges witnessed in the state recently, particularly the murder of the APC State Chairman, the late Chief Philip Tatari Shekwo, Nasarawa State still remains peaceful and conducive for doing business.

He equally thanked the Federal Government for all the support given to the state, particularly the road leading to the site of the Brekete Family Smart City.

Engineer Sule identified Karu, Kabusu and Gurku, as areas already marked out for development, being gateways to the Federal Capital Territory, with especially Gurku suitable for massive housing scheme, in order to provide accommodation for employees working in Abuja.

Commenting on the popular radio station, the Brekete Family, ran by the Ordinary President, Ahmad Isah, the Governor gave his word that he is willing to answer questions seeking clarifications regarding the activities of his administration.

Earlier, Consultant for the Smart City project, Dr. Iyke Ezeugo, said Brekete Family Smart City project will be carried out on about six hundred hectares of land and 70 units of houses, comprising 2 and 3 bedrooms semi-detached bungalows, as part of the first phase of the project.

Ezeugo explained that the concept was first initiated as Sites and Services, where the firm will provide land, as well as services that will make the land habitable.

He explained that with the new partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank, through the cooperative housing development scheme, subscribers are required to pay only 10 percent of the total cost of the completed building, with the 3-bedroom pegged at N9.2m, while the 2-bedroom costs N2.5m.

On his part, Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the approval of the loan to the Brekete Family housing cooperative platform, Watershed Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society Limited, as well as the foundation laying ceremony, are indications of the bank's desire to continue to empower ordinary Nigerians in the area of house ownership.

Dangiwa then commended the Nasarawa State Government, for supporting the Brekete Family on the project, as well as the tremendous support the FMB has continued to receive.

The FMB MD recalled that only recently, 100 housing units were delivered, under the FMB/NLC/TUC/NECA collaborative project at Kwandere, with the bank presently financing the construction of an estate for the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Multipurpose Cooperative in Lafia, the state capital.

As you are already aware, Nigeria is faced with security challenges occasioned by the activities of the ENDSARS protesters against the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force. The activities of the ENDSARS have continued to pose security threats with attendant consequences on human lives and property, as well as the socio-economic development of the State and the country at large.
4. This is coming at a time when His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is committed to record unprecedented progress and development in all facets of human endeavours.

5. I need to inform you that the ENDSARS protesters have raised a 5-Points Demand which include:
i. Immediate release of all arrested protesters;

ii. Justice for all deceased victims of Police brutality and appropriate compensation;

iii. Setting-up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all records of Police misconduct (within 10 days);

iv. In line with the new Police Act psychological evaluation and retraining (to be confirmed by an independent body) of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be redeployed; and

v. Increase Police salary so that they are adequately compensated for protecting lives and property of citizens.

6. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to appraise the present security challenge with a view to finding a lasting and sustainable peace, as well as fashion out modalities towards addressing the 5-Points Demand raised by the ENDSARS protesters. In an attempt to address the demands of the protesters, Government had in compliance with the Presidential directive, constituted Judicial Commission of Enquiry with a clear mandate as reflected in their terms of reference. This gathering will further give us an opportunity to carefully look into the plights of the protesters as it relates to our State. I, therefore, call on you all to be objective in your contributions, in our collective determination to not only address the 5-Points Demand of the ENDSARS but also to create the needed serene environment for socio-economic development of our dear State and the country at large.

7. It is pertinent to note that, the Federal Government under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has implemented different programmes targeted mostly on youths and women, as well as the most vulnerable groups in the society. This is in an effort to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten (10) years.

8. On our part as a State, this Administration made deliberate efforts towards the empowerment of our youths and women in line with our policies and programmes geared towards wealth creation, employment generation and poverty alleviation. Government has completed the Lafia Institute of Technical Education, aimed at imparting necessary vocational skills to our youth and women, including those who could not have the privilege of formal or pursuing higher education.

9. In addition, this Administration has attracted investors, like the Dangote Group of Company, Azman Rice Ltd, Flour Mills, Olam Farms, among others into the State. These companies will serve as employment hubs for our teeming youth in the State. We also sustained the Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Scheme in an effort to reduce redundancy among our youths. Government is, however, determined to provide all the necessary support to make our youth productive and fully prepared to take over the governance of this great nation.

10. Let me take the liberty of this occasion to inform you that, just yesterday I had the opportunity of attending the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) in Kaduna, where the Forum deliberated extensively on the activities of the ENDSARS protesters which have turned violent resulting in the destruction of our national assets and destruction of property, as well as other cherished institutions. I need to also point out that one of the resolutions of the Northern State Governors’ Forum is to carry out strategic engagements with stakeholders, hence the imperative of convening this meeting. I shall give you further briefing when the meeting dissolve into Executive Session.

ENGINEER SULE WARNS NON RESIDENT ENDSARS PROTESTERS TO STAY CLEAR OF NASARAWA

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has warned people moving into the state for the purpose of staging protest seeking the banning of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), to stay clear of the state or face the full wrath of the law.

Engineer Sule handed down the warning while inaugurating the judicial commission of enquiry into the activities of the F-SARS of the Nigerian Police and other related matters, at the Government House, on Monday.

The Governor disclosed that available information indicate that some people are being conveyed into the state in buses, with a view to staging protests in Karu and Keffi, warning such people not to carry on with the protest as government will not fold its arms and allow them to cause problems in the state.

Engineer Sule advised such intending protesters to stay clear of Nasarawa State and to remain in their places of resident to protest.

“If there is going to be any protest, let it be by residents of Nasarawa who understand what is happening in Nasarawa State.

“We will not welcome and we will not fold our arms as government and continue to receive other people who don’t understand the challenges that we are having in Nasarawa State, to come in buses, arrive somewhere in Karu and Keffi and stage protest in false claims because those people don’t understand our problems, they should go to where they are resident and protest,” he stated.

Engineer Sule said inaugurating the judicial commission has become even more imperative after some disgruntled elements and desperate politicians have cashed in on the situation, with the intent of destabilizing the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, at a time when steady progress and development is being recorded in the country.

“As far as we are concerned in Nasarawa State, we have recorded some successes as a result of the activities of SARS and we have identified that, and we have also identified some weaknesses of SARS and so we are in line with whatsoever is happening in the country, as long as it is for the peace of the country,” the Governor said.

He equally pointed out that his administration has recognized the rights of people to protest whenever they find the policy of government is going in the wrong direction, but that when it comes to SARS, it has been kind to Nasarawa State.

Engineer Sule lamented that in spite of the fact that the Federal Government and Police authorities banned the SARS, the protest appears to continue unabated.

While commending members of the commission for their readiness to serve both state and country, and their statesmanship and love for peace, stability, progress and development of Nasarawa State and the country at large, the Governor said they were chosen to carry out a broad base appraisal of the situation.

The judicial commission, which is to be chaired by a former Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Badamasi Maina, has the following terms of reference, to receive and investigate complaints of police brutality, or related extra judicial killings, to evaluate evidence and draw conclusions on validity of complaints and to recommend compensation and other remedial measures to government.

It has six months within which to submit its report.

The Governor added that members of the commission were not selected to say what government wants to hear, but to tell government the truth.

Engineer Sule used the opportunity to restate his appreciation to the Federal Government for the continued support to Nasarawa State, in the area of maintenance of law and order, stressing that the robust relationship has made it possible for the state to benefit from the establishment of critical security infrastructure.

These include, special joint military operation code named Ayum Patuma, with the operations headquarters in Nasarawa State, to take care of the entire North Central zone, Operation Whirl Stroke, with its headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State and operational bases in Nasarawa, to address farmers/herders conflicts.

Others are, establishment of 123 Task Force Battalion in Doma, the barrack which is fully operational is serving as the headquarters of the Nigerian Army Special Forces Command, the establishment of two military super camps at Mararaban Udege in Nasarawa and Kenyehu in Toto Local Government Areas, among others.

16.  Ladies and gentlemen.

I am delighted to welcome you all to the inauguration of the Commission of Enquiry to look into the activities of some personnel of the Nigerian Police Force.

2.         You would recall that in the last few weeks, our dear country was engulfed with series of protests seemingly against the activities of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force with the attendant security implication.  As a responsible and responsive Government, it became necessary to arrest the situation to avoid its degeneration into a state of anarchy and chaos.  Accordingly, the National Economic Council meeting was convened on Thursday, 15th October, 2020 under the chairmanship of His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  The resolution arrived at the meeting obliged State Governors to constitute Commission of Enquiry pursuant to Commission of Enquiry Act CAP 25 of Northern Nigeria with the view to carryout in-depth investigation into the activities of the Police Force towards stemming the escalation of the situation.

3.         As you are aware, the concern shown and expressed by well-meaning citizens of the country, including those in the diaspora, and the peculiarity of the sporadic protest has made the setting up of this Commission not only inevitable, but obligatory.  This is more so that some disgruntled elements and desperate politicians have cashed in on the situation with the intent of destabilizing the All Progressives Congress (APC) Administration under our amiable leader, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at a time when steady progress and development is being recorded in all facets of human endeavours.

4.         It is saddening to observe that even when the concerned unit was dismantled by the Inspector General of Police, the protest appeared to continue unabated. This must stop.

5.         I am encouraged by the presence of the Chairman and Members of this all-important Commission of Enquiry whose appointments came without prior consultation. Your readiness to serve our country at all times demonstrates your statesmanship and love for the peace, stability, progress and development of not only Nasarawa State, but Nigeria as a whole.

6.         Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, considering the issue at stake, eminent jurist and time-tested security and public administrators, among others were carefully selected to serve on this important Commission to ensure broad-based appraisal of the situation. I congratulate you, Mr. Chairman and Members of this Commission for earning the confidence and trust of the Government and people of Nasarawa State.  I also thank you for accepting to serve the State in this capacity.

7.         To carry out its assignment, the Commission of Enquiry will be guided by the following terms of reference:
i.            To receive and investigate complaints of Police brutality or related extra judicial killings;

ii.          To evaluate evidence and draw conclusions on validity of complaints; and

iii.        To recommend compensation and other remedial measures.

8.         The Commission is given six months from the date of its inaugural sitting to complete its assignment.  With the calibre of Members of this Commission, I believe that the Government and people of Nasarawa State and, indeed, the Nigerian Police Force will benefit immensely from your intellectual and professional wisdom.

9.         I wish to state for the records, our appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria for the continued support it is giving to Nasarawa State Government in the area of maintenance of law and order.  No doubt, this robust relation we share with the Federal Government of Nigeria has made it possible for the State to benefit in the establishment of the following:

i.            A Special Joint Military Operations which was codenamed Ayum Kpatuma or Cat Race with the operation headquarters in Nasarawa State to take care of the entire North-central zone.

ii.         Operation Whirl Stroke Special Force, with its Command Headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State and operational bases in the States to address farmers herders conflict in the zone.

iii.       Establishment of 123 Special Force Battalion in Doma. The Barrack, which is fully operational is serving as the headquarters of the Nigerian Army Special Forces Command in the zone.

iv.       The establishment of two Military Super Camps at Mararaban-Udege in Nasarawa and Kanyehu in Toto Local Government Areas.
v.          Air Force Base in Lafia; and

vi.       The siting of the 38-Police Mobile Force, Akwanga; 58-PMF, Lafia, 69-PMF in Toto and Police Mobile Force Training College, Endeh Hills, Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the State.

10.    It is our hope that this co-operation we have enjoyed from the Federal Government, Security Agencies and other critical stakeholders will not only be sustained, but extended to this all-important Commission of Enquiry and, indeed, other processes that will contribute to reform of the Nigerian Police and also bring about peace and stability in Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.

11.    At this juncture, I urge all and sundry to avail the Commission their maximum support and cooperation towards a successful assignment.

12.    In conclusion, Government wishes to appeal to the good people of Nasarawa State to continue to exercise restraint and live in peace with one another, so as we continue to live up to our status as a peaceful State.

13.    Finally, let me commend the Inspector General of Police for his foresight in instituting a new initiative in combating crime and criminality in the country tagged Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).

14.    May God continue to protect Nasarawa State.

PoliticsNasarawa Signs Concession Agreement With Private Firm For $31.5m Waste To Energy by Zeegu(op): 12:04pm On Oct 15, 2020
NASARAWA SIGNS CONCESSION AGREEMENT WITH PRIVATE FIRM FOR $31.5m WASTE TO ENERGY PROJECT

Nasarawa State Government has signed a concession agreement with a private firm, Beacon Energy Development, for the setting up of a plant that will generate power from waste, estimated to cost $31.5m.

Representatives of the Nasarawa State Government, as well as management of the Beacon Energy Development, signed the agreement at a brief ceremony at the Government House, on Wednesday.

In a remark shortly after signing the agreement, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, expressed satisfaction that the waste to energy project fits perfectly with the development agenda of his administration.

Engineer Sule commended the Federal Government, as well as the Federal Ministry of Environment, for initiating and constructing the waste recycling facility in Auta Balefi and donating it to the Nasarawa State Government.

According to the Governor, the idea was for the state government to run the facility as a business but that has not been the case because as experience has shown, businesses ran by government always run into challenges.

Engineer Sule expressed appreciation that Beacon Energy Development, a company owned by a son of the state, Dr. Lazarus Angbazo, is coming in to take over the facility for the generation of energy from waste.

“I am happy that our dear brother and his company, Beacon, have decided to join us and to take it over and run it under this PPP arrangement.

“That’s the part that makes me very happy, that we have been able to put this particular project into proper use,” the visibly elated Governor said.

Engineer Sule said the partnership is coming at a time when the need to address power challenges in the country and Nasarawa State has become paramount, especially that power is essential for any form of economic activity.

He however pointed out that sometimes to set a target is not enough but to follow up and implement that target, praying that parties to the agreement will implement the ideas behind the project so that it will be a legacy for both the firm and for his administration.

Earlier, MD/CEO of Beacon Energy Development, Dr. Angbazo said the concession has both local and international contents, involving a Swedish company, with the associated power generation capacity visualized for the project, enough to provide power to the industrial cluster already in place around Karu, with further possibility to attract more industries, cottage industries that youths and women can key into.

“We have a huge issue of sanitation and waste management in the country. We have taken a long term view of our state, of our country, of our community, particularly the youths and women. We have an opportunity to turn a problem into an economic engine,” he stated.

In an introductory remarks, Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment and Economic Planning, Barrister Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the project estimated at $31.5m, will entail designing, financing, building and operating the plant at Auta Balefi, which will be upgraded to an integrated municipal waste management facility for converting waste to energy.

He said that explained the decision of his administration to make concerted effort to ensure lasting peace within the state and between neighbouring states.

Engineer Sule used the opportunity of the visit to commend Rev Pam on his recent peace initiative in Southern Kaduna, which has continued to witness incidences of banditry and communal clashes, stressing that he is willing to hold similar summit in Nasarawa State after that of either Benue or Taraba State.

The Governor however pleaded with the Northern Nigeria CAN Chairman, to seek to be part of those implementing the recommendations contained in the report from the peace summit in Southern Kaduna.

“Please Sir, it’s not just the report that you will hand over to Governor El-Rufai. Rather, the implementation of that report is more important than the report,” he stated.

Engineer Sule thereby impressed on Rev Pam on the need for him to continue with the process, so he can implement the recommendation, in order to bring enduring peace in Southern Kaduna.

On the CAN Chairman’s request for the government to sponsor more Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem, the Governor said Nasarawa will not perform less than last year, which earned the state recognition.

He showed appreciation to his Deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, for the wonderful job he did to sanitize the Christian pilgrimage, as well as ensure cordial relationship between the state chapter of CAN and the Nasarawa State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.

On the partnership for agricultural training for farmers in Israel, the Governor expressed readiness to partner with NCPC for some farmers from the state to be trained in Israel.

In his opening remarks, the Northern Nigeria CAN Chairman, commended the courage demonstrated by Engineer Sule when he chose to complete projects initiated by his predecessors, describing the feat as unusual.

Rev. Pam equally commended the Governor who on his assumption into office, convened a stakeholders meeting, reached out to neighbouring states, with a view to enacting a roadmap for peace, knowing that peace is essential.

He said the purpose of the visit was to show appreciation to the Governor, for allocating the highest number of seats to Christian pilgrims last year.

Rev. Pam however appealed to the Governor to further increase the number of seats for Christian pilgrims from the state, as according to him, the pilgrims are going to the holy land to pray for Nigeria and Nasarawa State to have peace.

The NCPC Executive Secretary was accompanied on the visit by top officials from the commission, the Nasarawa State CAN Chairman, Bishop Joseph Masin, Executive Secretary of the state Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. David Ayewa, among others.
