Back then all they had to contend with was a Drogba, Malouda etc who will sit back all game waiting to sniff just one opportunity. Teams were not taught to press high with three ultrafast forwards when facing this kind of team.

Likes of Salah, Son, Mane type forwards will pose a different problem than Malouda and co who were trained to park bus when facing Xavi.

Players have changed and coaching thoughts around facing these kind of players have changed.

Per Havertz point, Bellingham is a good player but combining with DeJong will leave that midfield light on robustness. Busquet is still one of the best ball keeping DM and his midfield combination with DeJong is getting trashed 8-2 and such.

De Jong is up there with busquets in terms of keeping the ball and resisting press
