I am new to this forum and its great to met people of the same culture on the internet.
My little contribution to this thread and to all who are from isoko is that they should not be ashamed of their language no matter who they get married to or where the live.I am blessed to have parents who did not tolerate any other language in our house other than isoko,despite the fact that we lived in Ughelli where the language is urhobo.
Now as an isoko woman married to an igala man,I choose to speak isoko my my 11 month old and the dad speaks his language or english as he chooses.Children can learn 3-4 langauges at the same time,it only depends on how consisitent the adults are .
Bottom line is ,if we are going to preserve our culture especially our language we have to speak it and teach it to our children;thats the only way the asians and other large cultures have maintained their identities in the face of western civillisation.
