A landlord, Ogbonnaya Igwe has been arrested by the operatives of the police command in Aba, for allegedly shooting dead his tenant, Ijeoma Chibuzo.

Confirming the arrest, Geoffrey Ogbonna, the state police public relations Officer, said the victim’s body was deposited in an undisclosed mortuary within the city.
He also said although investigation into the matter was still ongoing, preliminary investigation showed that the suspect and the victim were having issues bothering on finance.

Igwe, who resides at Plot 22, Obohia Road, Aba and the deceased are indigenes of Item in the Bende Local Government Area of the state.

Another police source said it took the intervention of a combined security team from the Counter-Terrorism Unit and others that were deployed in Obohia to stop angry mob from setting the suspect’s building ablaze.

Chairman of the Senate committee on sports, Senator Obinna Ogba has declared that it would be a disaster if the nation incurs the wrath of world soccer governing body, FIFA, on account of the legal battles the NFF is facing in civil courts.

Ogba who spoke yesterday said the only way the nation can be saved once and for all from the incessant FIFA threat is for the Acting president to as a matter of urgency sign the NFF bill into law.

“My appeal is for the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to sign the NFF bill into law. Once that bill is signed into law, it would save us a lot of trouble. There is a provision in the bill for those in ordinary court now to go to the sports court of arbitration to seek redress. FIFA frowns at people going to ordinary court. We freely signed to be a member of FIFA and genuine stakeholders should learn to respect FIFA rules in the interest of the country. We can’t afford to go the way of Sudan that had just been hammered by FIFA. Sudan’s World Cup hopes have been frittered away, just like that of their clubs in continental football. Nigeria is too big to go the way of Sudan and given the role football play in bonding the country together, it is not a sector we should toy with. Football is the first love of every Nigerian. The game brings us together as a people and I know even those that run our judiciary know that much and would put the nation’s interest first even when stakeholders carry their fight to them.”

It would be noted that FIFA last week banned Sudan and Guinea from all football activities following alleged government interference in the running of their football. The same fate may befall Nigeria if the renewed court battle over the leadership of Nigerian football is allowed to affect the administration of the game in the country.

Last Monday, the nation’s apex court, the Supreme Court gave the NFF, led by Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa who is laying claim to the NFF presidency notice to await further directives on when it would deliver judgment on the suit between both parties.

Sapele—The kidnappers, who abducted Sussan, wife of Sapele-based staff of Seplat Petroleum Development Company Ltd., Chief Anthony Owumi, yesterday reportedly demanded a ransom of N50 million before she will be released.

She was kidnapped nine days ago from their Amukpe country home in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, amidst intense gun fire that sent her neighbours scampering for safety.

Meanwhile, the victim’s husband has pleaded with the abductors to release her unconditionally, saying “I do not have such an amount.

“Neither I nor my wife is in possession of illicit wealth. I am pleading with those kidnappers to release my wife unconditionally.”

Security officials have, however, recovered both her black 4matic Mercedes SUV and the black Toyota Landcruiser used by her abductors along Elume Road, also in Sapele council.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, “the police command is on top of the issue as they are working round the clock to have her released.”

Meanwhile, several pastors across the town have since the incident began marathon interdenominational prayer sessions at the Anthony Owumi Estate, where the victim was kidnapped.

KANO— Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd), revealed, yesterday, in Kano how the late elder statesman, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, submitted himself for arrest shortly after the 1983 coup d’etat that saw many top flight politicians clamped into detention.

Abubakar, who made the revelation when he paid a condolence visit to the government of Kano State and family of Danmasanin Kano, noted that Nigeria and, indeed, the whole world have lost a true compatriot.

The former Head of State, who was a Brigade Commander at 3rd Motorized Brigade, Kano, in 1984, said: “As Brigade Commander of the 33 Motoriized Brigade, Bukavu Barracks, Kano, many politicians were arrested that period and all of a sudden, I saw Danmasani in my office with his briefcase, and I asked him what happened? and he declared that “I’ve turned myself in to be arrested like other politicians.”


Maitama Sule
“I asked him why?, and he said to me, ‘you people are arresting many people and you shunned me, and I don’t know why.’ I just laughed it off.

“Maitama Sule believed that the tragedy of every person is his personal tragedy; that made him a leader, a pillar that stood for the less privileged ones and every other person in needs.”

He said the loss of Danmasani was a national tragedy, which pain was shared not only by his family or Kano people, but also Nigerians.

In his speech, Governor Ganduje said: “Danmasani was there during the British colonialists and struggled alongside other prominent Nigerians, most of whom were now late.

“There is no head of state, since independence, that has not sat with Yusuf Maitama Sule and listen to his personal advice on how he would be a good leader.’

Among those who paid condolence visit at Government House, yesterday, were Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu; NUJ National President, Wahab Odusile, among others.

THE Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, has criticised former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his opposition to restructuring of the country separatist agitations in Nigeria.

Speaking at the palace of the Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, weekend, Obasanjo said there was nothing wrong with Nigeria to warrant the raging clamour for restructuring or dismemberment.

Picking holes in this comment, ECA Secretary General, Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu Ukoh said the former president and his military colleagues, who ruled the country entrenched the inequities and injustices that led to the various agitations.

He said former President Obasanjo’s statement that “those advocating for seccesion should perish the thought, is both interesting and quite remarkable.

Interesting because Obasanjo had earlier called the same agitators fraudsters and miscreants, who should be ignored, and remarkable, because the same Obasanjo frustrated efforts by well meaning Nigerians to address the issues that gave birth to the agitation when he threw away the resolutions of the 2005 Political reform conference which had resolved most of the reasons for the agitation, including additional state for the South East. “Obasanjo killed the 2005 conference report, simply because Nigerians rejected his 3rd term bid.

The same Obasanjo, who refuses to lead his military club of ex rulers, down the road of truth and equity:Restructuring Nigeria, simply because any changes in the format of the unitary structure he and his colleagues created would hurt their pride, is now sermonizing on saving Nigeria, without applying the truthful medicine which remains restructuring Nigeria along the lines of true fiscal federalism anchored on regional autonomy . Very deceitful.

Obasanjo hopes to cure an illness, without applying the right drug for it. That doesn’t happen. You get the right results only when you apply the right medicine. Certain fundamental injustices gave birth to the agitation for Biafra.
Obasanjo knows that the only way out from this self inflicted mess, is for him, General Yakubu Danjuma, IBB, General Abdusalami Abubakar, General Gowon and fellow members of their cabal, to kindly tell General Buhari, to immediately, without delay convene a committee of eminent persons from the six geopolitical zones, to embark on the process of reinventing Nigeria through a new people’s constitution. But unfortunately, Nigerians know that pride would not let them face the truth.

“The misconceptions and miscalculation, that the oppressed regions of Nigeria, would continue to swallow the shit the creators of Nigeria, packaged for them till eternity, simply because their political class has been helplessly intimidated and hopelessly compromised, brought Nigeria to this sorry pass. The oppressor never contemplated that the children and grandchildren of the oppressed regions would mobilise themselves into a critical mass, shunning their inept and corrupt political class, and stand up with one mind to fight for freedom from eternal servitude.

“The oppressor is yet to accept the fact that the oppressed is very serious in his quest for freedom from internal slavery.

The oppressor banks on the usual support he gets from the elite club of the oppressed, who have been so faithful in assisting the oppressor hold down his own people, usually for a fee, an appointment, a job or some other consideration .
“This vicious game by the master and the quislings, has gone on since 1970, that the oppressor has come to believe that the game will go on forever. But incidentally, the die is cast and the enemy is exhausting the weapons in his bag of tricks.

“They threw the last card of 90-day quit notice, that only resulted in in the agitators upping the ante, by demanding referendum and mobilising for election boycotts.1966 is different from 2017.
“Now the oppressor hopes that pleas to get the political leaders to denounce the agitation would end the agitation. After that fails, we may see the oppressor throw in the last trick or tricks, until his bag of tricks has been completed exhausted, then and only then will Obasanjo and the cabal agree to do the right thing, which is to support, drive and organise an early restructuring of Nigeria. There is no other way to save Nigeria.”

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday, when an articulated truck suddenly overturned its container on a Volkswagen commercial bus, popularly called, “Danfo” at Ojota,” along Ikorodu Road, killing at least five passengers and injuring three others who were rescued alive in the process.
According to wailing eyewitness, the tragedy occurred at Ojota Bus Sopt, Ikorodu Road at bout 4:02am when the articulated truck, with registration number AKD 663 KF conveying 40 feet container fell on the Danfo, with registration number FST 944 XR, and trapped the occupants.

While rescue team were able to retrieve three lucky passengers alive from the carcass, unfortunately other five bodies retrieved were dead. The injured victims were immediately taken to hospital for prompt medical attention.

The General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, confirmed the incident, saying the three rescued passengers were responding to treatment at press time.

The ace singer has been accused of breaching a contract signed between him & 001 Entertainment, the organizers of “The Nigerian Queen” who have now written him to demand N20.5million in damages within 7 days or be dragged to court.

001 Entertainment, through its manager, Churchill Eneh, said it contacted the musician’s management company, The Plug Ng and after an agreement with the manager, Asa Asika, N5million was agreed which was fully paid for Davido to perform alongside other guest acts like Funke Akindele Bello and Styl Plus at the 9th edition of The Nigerian Queen which held on Saturday, June 10th in Port-Harcourt.

Davido allegedly confirmed his appearance and also instructed the organizer to pay return flight tickets for 6 persons for his 8:45am trip to Port-Harcourt on 10/06/17. At an extra cost, the flight was again re-booked for 4:50pm of the same date.

TNQ Manager, Churchill Eneh was shocked when about 2:30pm he received a call from Davido’s agent that he (Davido) had withdrawn from the event without any reason. Consequent to this, TNQ organization were forced, at an extra and exorbitant cost of N2.5million, to hurriedly arranged for another artiste, Adekunle Gold to save their face.
