According to the annual Global Peace Index (GPI), Canada was ranked world's 4th most peaceful country.

Canada has moved up three spots from last year, now in 4th place, following Iceland, Denmark, and New Zealand.

When determining a country's peacefulness, the report uses a number of indicators including access to weapons, organized conflict, violent demonstrations, political instability, and conflicts fought. For the majority of indicators, Canada ranked a 1, the lowest and most 'peaceful' ranking possible.

The 2012 index ranked 158 nations while the 2011 list included 153 countries.

The GPI stated that the world became slightly more peaceful over the last year. Except for the Middle East and North Africa, all regions experienced improvements in their levels of peacefulness. Canada's rise in ranking was attributed largely to a scaling down of military efforts abroad, while maintaining an above-average level of peacefulness at home.

The USA with 10,000 murders a year, where do they stand on the 'most peaceful list'?

Who keeps such record in Nigeria? You quoted that figure because US keeps the record.

Have you ever done a search on recorded murders in Nigeria before opening your big dirty mouth to ask ''who keeps such records in Nigeria''? Have you even visited the Nigerian Police website to know what they're up to? Do you care? (Need I ask?) Fact is the Nigerian police, like every other police force, keeps the records on annual reported murders, and there are nowhere near 10,000 a year. Nigerians do not walk around with, or keep guns in their houses, and are not as violent as Americans.

World homicide stats:

Nigeria: 1.29 per 100,000 population

USA: 5.22 PER 100,000 population

@ Rossicky...I do agree with justwise to some extent on his post. Even if the police keeps such record i do not believe such a figure will represent the true state of killings in the country . This is because the force i believe lacks the adequate reach to capture the true state of killings nationwide as there are many unreported cases. Even when they do as in the case of the boko haram insurgency and other likely mayhems in the country, you find them doctoring the figures of such killings, for God knows why?

What i am trying to say is that the statistical records from the police does not really represent the true state of things as it were.
