From an Islamic perspective, Why Should We Support Al-Quds Day?

Question:

Why do we need to support the oppressed people, and what kind of impact will it have on society? In particular reference to Al-Quds, many people don’t come to the Al-Quds rallies because of the following two issues:

1. Many of our brothers and sisters look at the Palestinians as Sunnis.

2. They think that their participation in the rallies will not change anything.

The whole notion of looking at results when doing such actions is wrong I think, so any logical and Islamic arguments, material, or points which could shed light on this issue will be appreciated.

Answer:

Muslims who don’t support Al-Quds issues in one way or the other are either ignorant or cowards. An ignorant person can be educated but I don’t have any treatment for the coward who only gives lip service to Islam, and whose practice of Islam rotates around his/her worldly interests.

As for educating the ignorant people you may consider the following points:

1. Although the Middle East is the cradle of all divine religions, Islam including all its sects is definitely the most heavily represented religion in the region. Thus, the destiny of the region is interwoven with the destiny of Muslims.

2. The Middle East has a rich abundance of natural resources. It has the world’s largest deposits of oil in an easily extracted form, especially in the neighbouring Persian Gulf countries, such as Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

3. The western economy in general and the U.S. in particular rely greatly on foreign oil. Oil for the West is like blood for the heart, and the Middle East is its jugular vein.

4. It is possible that the occupation of Afghanistan with the excuse of overthrowing the Taliban is in fact related to American interests relating to Central Asian oil.

5. For the United States to secure control over oil and domesticate its military power in the region, the regime of Israel was illegitimately conceived in the Muslim land of Palestine in 1948. Moreover, pro-U.S. regimes were formed and attempts in preventing the formation of anti-U.S. powers or blocs have been on top of the U.S. foreign policy agenda. American hostility towards Iran in the last three decades is a prime example of that policy.

6. To expand its control from Palestine to the entire Middle East, the racist regime of Israel is on a mission towards ‘a Greater Israel’, the geographical definition of which is ‘from the brook of Egypt to the Euphrates’, comprising all of today’s Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E, Oman, Yemen, most of Turkey, and all the land east of the Nile river, and hence the map of Israel is constantly expanding!

7. The formation of Israel was only the start of a larger plot against Muslims and their territories. Its success or failure determines the rest of the story.

Conclusion: It is absolutely naive to think the issue of Israel is only a Palestinian Sunni issue. The destiny of the Shiites in Lebanon and elsewhere and the glory or the humiliation of the entire Muslim world depends on their stance on this issue.

Losing his hope in Arab leaders, the late Imam Khomeini (r.a) called upon the entire Muslim Ummah to wake up and take control of their destiny. They shall NOT leave it to their treacherous leaders, NOR shall they let their enemies divide them, or they WILL all be destroyed.

Iran's Rouhani misquoted in remarks on Israel - state TV

DUBAI | Fri Aug 2, 2013 11:20pm IST

(Reuters) - Two days before his inauguration as Iran's new president, Hassan Rouhani said on Friday that Israeli occupation of Palestinian land had inflicted a "wound" on the Muslim world, according to a segment of his remarks broadcast on Iran's state-run Press TV.

An earlier report by Iran's student news agency ISNA had quoted Rouhani as saying: "The Zionist regime is a wound that has sat on the body of the Muslim world for years and needs to be removed."

ISNA later retracted the report, saying some domestic news agencies "including ISNA, had presented Mr Rouhani as saying the Zionist regime is a wound on the body of the Muslim world that needs to be removed, and this was corrected".

The original version of the report had echoed the fiercely anti-Israeli language of outgoing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but was swiftly repudiated by Iranian state media, which said unidentified news agencies had distorted Rouhani's remarks.

Press TV then broadcast an excerpt from an exchange between Rouhani and journalists at a rally to mark Iran's annual Al Qods Day in support of the Palestinians.

"After all, in our region there's been a wound for years on the body of the Muslim world under the shadow of the occupation of the holy land of Palestine and the beloved al-Qods (Jerusalem)," Rouhani said in the segment. ISNA later published that version of the comment.

Speaking before the ISNA retraction, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Rouhani's remarks showed the reputedly moderate Iranian cleric was as hostile to Israel as Ahmadinejad, whose denial of the Holocaust and description of Israel as a "cancerous tumour" prompted international condemnation.

The United States and its allies suspect Iran of seeking a nuclear weapons capability. Tehran says its nuclear programme is purely for peaceful purposes, but Israel regards it as a threat to its existence and refuses to rule out military action.

With a more pragmatic president in Iran, Western countries may see a better chance for diplomacy to lead to a deal to curb Tehran's uranium enrichment programme and avoid any conflict.

"The true face of Rouhani has been revealed sooner than expected. Even if they hurry to deny his words - this is what the man thinks and this is the Iranian regime's plan of action," Netanyahu said in a statement.

Rouhani's words "must awaken the world from the illusion in which part of it is placed since the Iranian elections", he declared, saying Iran still aimed "to acquire nuclear weapons in order to threaten Israel, the Middle East and world peace".

"A nation that threatens to destroy the state of Israel must not be allowed to have weapons of mass destruction," he said.

Ahmadinejad addressed Israel on Qods Day in his last speech as president. "You planted wind in our region and you will reap the storm. I swear to God that a ferocious storm is coming and it will uproot the Zionist entity," Iran's state news agency IRNA quoted him as saying.

Ahmadinejad: Int'l Quds Day Isolates Devil Front

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad underlined the importance of participation in the International Quds Day rallies, and said the devil front was isolated in the global Quds demonstrations.

Ahmadinejad said the International Quds Day testifies efforts of mankind and the righteous to restore justice worldwide.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the International Quds Day rallies in Tehran on Friday, he said the International Quds Day marks an important day for mankind in which the camp of Satan would be God willing isolated and all virtues would govern the universe.

"Thanks God I managed to be present among the public in the 34th International Quds Day rallies, assigned by the late Imam Khomeini," Ahmadinejad said.

He said this year people have taken part in the event more gloriously than ever.

The International Quds Day was started by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1979 as a way of expressing solidarity with the Palestinians and underscoring importance of the holy Quds to Muslims.

International Quds Day is an annual event opposing Israel's occupation of Beitul-Muqaddas. Anti-Zionist rallies and demonstrations are held on the last Friday of Ramadan in Muslim and Arab countries around the world, and especially in Iran.

Palestinians attend a gathering marking International Quds Day in Gaza City on August 2, 2013.

Fri Aug 2, 2013 4:33PM GMT

Thousands of Palestinians have taken to the streets in the besieged Gaza Strip to mark the International Quds Day and demand an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

Quds Day is held annually on the last Friday of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan during which demonstrators call for al-Quds (Jerusalem) to be returned to the Palestinians.

Muslims in more than 80 countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia and Indonesia, have also marked the pro-Palestinian occasion.

In Iran, millions of people took to the streets across the country on Quds Day to express their anger at Israeli policies towards Palestinians and call for the liberation of Palestine.

In August 1979, the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Khomeini declared the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day, calling on Muslims across the world to mark the annual occasion by holding street rallies.

Palestinians are seeking to create an independent state on the territories of the West Bank, East al-Quds, and the Gaza Strip, and are demanding that Israel withdraw from the Palestinian territories occupied in the 1967 Six-Day War.

PRESS RELEASE: QUDS DAY: DAY OF THE OPPRESSED

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria.

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad and his pure Progeny

Today being the last Friday of the Holy month of Ramadan, and as declared by Imam Khomeini (Q.S.) of blessed memory, is the International Quds Day in which we commemorate the seizure of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the plight of Muslims in Palestine and the oppressed globally.

It is a day set aside to remind the world the significance of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and its continued desecration by the Zionists usurpers for the past 60 years. By staging peaceful marches, making speeches and distributing press releases, we are doing exactly the same with fellow Muslims and freedom lovers worldwide. Historical texts and the Ahadith of the Prophet (SAWA) are full of numerous indications that Al-Aqsa Mosque was the first Qibla (direction) of the Muslims, and other virtues associated with the Holy mosque. Al-Aqsa Mosque and its vicinity is central pivot to Islam just like the Holy Ka’abah and Mecca.

The Holy mosque and its environs are now under the clutches of the Zionists of the illegal state of Israel. Muslims are sanctioned from worship in it, as a strategy to cripple their bond of unity. Mass massacre, demolishing of homes, target bombings and assassinations, as well as illegal detentions and imprisonments of Muslim Palestinians and non-Muslims alike by the Zionists have become the order of the day. We can never forget the series of siege on Gaza and continued bombardment of the city and its people by the illegal state of Israel. The world, Arab leaders and so called human rights groups have all kept silent to these brutal and inhumane activities. The current Peace Plan and Road Map in the Middle East is nothing short of deception and trap by the Global Arrogance ( America ) to cover up occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan , and the current intimidation other Muslim countries . The mass massacre of Muslims in Burma is another plot in that part of the world to annihilate the Muslim community for no just cause. We vehemently oppose the unjust killings of innocent people in the guise of war on terror, irrespective of their creed and belief.

The current Islamic awakening in North Africa and some Arab countries, despite attempts by the so-called Super Powers to hijack the mass movement, is a clear sign that people can no longer watch helplessly as their rights and privileges are being plundered. This is also an indication that Palestine will surely be liberated. Here in Nigeria , we are also aware of covert operation by the illegal state of Israel and U.S. , in agreement Nigeria ’s security operatives, to suppress the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqoub Zakzaky(H) through various strategies. The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has been conducting Quds Day procession for about 30 years now in major cities across the country, Now that the Nigerian security system and economy is hijacked and infested by Israeli terror cell, MOSSAD, there is a grand ploy to assassinate Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Zakzaky (H) and suppress the Movementr. The current arrests, torture and detention of some selected members of the Movement, as well the ready-made script of war on terror are all part of the game plan to go for the jugular of the Islamic Movement. This has become obvious recently with the publication of series of sponsored write-ups by Nigerian Tell Magazine, The Nation, CNN World blog and JerusalemPost news site, calling for tougher action against the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and its leadership.

We therefore call on all Muslims and Non- Muslims to wake up from their deep slumber and reject any divisional tendencies by enemies of progress and unite. Let us shun all sponsored incitements and false propaganda in the name of religious sects, as well as inter-religious mistrust. This is the call of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky(H). Muslims should give top priority to the liberation of Quds and Palestine.

Peace be upon those who follow the right path.

Signed: Malam Abdul Hamid Bello, Zaria-Nigeria
