There are many words in Hausa I can't remember all now, I use to ask what is the direct translation in English. There is something in Hausa they call "Saraba". Saraba is like that bread you bought on the road when you are travelling.
So they people you give the bread to, You have given them "Saraba". It is not gift. it is similar to gift. Saraba is that thing your mother buys for you(May be fish or something)when she goes to the market. Saraba is gotten from a different location but not from where the receiver stays. What is Saraba now?

Furthermore; it is high time we stopped looking for English names to use for things that have their origin in local tradition. If whites suddenly form a name for Eba now, we will accept and throw away the original name - forgetting that it is our food (and hence the name should be simply adopted and added to English dictionary); just the same way fellow blacks claim that the right way to eat eba according to the whites is with fork and knife!

There are some Yoruba or Ebira words that have no English equivalent.
Eku’Ile in Yoruba for instance has no English translation.

Also- moi-moi and Amala have no English for example.

Language and culture are inalienable. What you find in a culture are what you would find in its language. The English do not place things on their head. As such, there is no need for the osuka. And as such, osuka does not have an English term.

Just like you won't find you won't find the Yoruba meaning of snow. Because snow is alien to us.
