23-year-old charged with armed
robbery

Benue - The Police on Thursday
arraigned a 23-year-old man, Bemshima Abako, before a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Thomas Ogah,told the court that the complainants,Hiekhoa Oyiamon, Alanana Alechenuand Akesun Paulina, all students ofBenue State University (BSU), Makurdi,reported the case to the police.
Ogah said that on Nov. 3, 2011, the
complainants were allegedly attacked
behind the Dunamis Church, opposite
the second gate of the university.
He said that the accused, seven in
number, armed with dangerous
weapons, robbed the students of N139,000 and two cell phones valued at N7,000. Ogah said that during police
investigation, the accused was arrested and confessed to the crime, while the other suspects were still at large.
However, when the case came up for
mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.
The Chief Magistrate, Cecilia Bakare, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the case to Oct.12 for mention.
