Some Nigerians are really risking their lives, just take a look........

A dilapidated pedestrian bridge at Sadiku Bus-stop in Ilasamaja area of Lagos metropolis is still in use even though it is on the verge of collapse.

Last night information circulated that parts of the bridge deck fell over three vehicles and injured some three people.

Citizen journalist visited the bridge today and saw several people using the pedestrian bridge; apparently unaware of the threat it poses to themselves and vehicles plying the ever-busy Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

Resident said the Lagos state government had promised to fix the bridge but surprisingly the killer bridge remains actively in use.

And people still walk on it. When it collaspes and people die, the government will be accused of killing them. Why cant these folks stay away from the brigde since the authourity doesnt want to intervene? It is true that the government has been ineffective but the citizens are not helping themselves either.

No doubt. This is Ilasa bridge. I have decided not to make use of that bridge again.

Well I hope this is not an excuse for pedestrians not to use the pedestrian bridge cos it is actually the same thing when you avoid the bridge and try to cross the express road - DEATH. Know you will be held responsible for your own death and it is actually now a criminal offense. The authorities should look into the dilapidated bridge for the safety of pedestrians.

Yes the government will be accused of killing them for failing to do their job!

But there are many that are in worse state than this. We can't totally blame people for using them. In some areas these bridges run across expressways and it will be "safer" for them to use the foot bridges. Again, those KAI(so many agencies that I cant tell one from the other) officials arrest people who cross the roads instead of using the bridge. You usually see them with black maria or mobile court vehicles. Some of the foot bridges are in good shape but many are old and dilapidated still.

This is absolutely not acceptable in today's Lagos. I'm sending this to the responsible authorities.

I'm sorry, but many Nigerians, especially in Nigeria, act like goats or sheep or some other simple minded animal.

The funny thing is that not too long ago, If you tried crossing the expressway,
You will be assaulted by those guys in Green (KAI) For not using the pedestrian bridge
Infact you'll be forced to pay. They'll search you and take everything they find.

Isn't it cheaper to install traffic STOP lights and mark "pedestrian cross walk" accross the road? That stuff is a death trap, accident waiting to happen. shocked shocked shocked

Pedestrian cross roads or Zebra crossings don't work in Lagos oh!

If it is a state or federal road the appropriate government should fix it ASAP.

Bro, this is a standard expressway. I don't think it's advisable to put a pedestrian crossing on that route. Just my thoughts...

An underpass would be good, but only god knows if they'd actually maintain it before it collapses on peoples heads.

Until lives are lost government will not be pro-active to service.
We only react after the disaster comes and are hardly safety conscious.
Keep on walking to your death. You are warned.

And why can't the govt seal up the bridge till it's fully repaired?

That's why I said a "STOP SIGN" and Traffic lights, at least, in my city where I live, that's what they did on 4/6/8/10 lane highways.

Why doesn't it work in Lagos? I thought Lagos was 21st century Tokyo?

Nigerians are good risk takers even if it becomes fatal! Probably the pedestrians are waiting for the government to ban them from using the bridge before they know its dangerous. SMH! undecided

I've passed this bridge a lot. It collapsed a few years back, wonder why it's in bad form already. Obviously not repaired well. There should be a LASTMA/KAI official there to direct traffic and stop it for pedestrians and stop usage of the bridge. Nigerians can also use their brains and stop using it, get to Ibalex or the next busstop and use it. A hassle, but better be safe than sorry.
