Since the position of University vice chancellors were politicized and their salaries escalated from that of normal professors who earn about 500k monthly to about N4m with so many perks including police escorts and siren they started attracting the attention of kidnappers, both they and their immediate members of their families. Yes kidnapping is bad and we all condemn it but this action of the vice chancellors in securing a unique package for themselves is equally as bad. Imagine a VC going from his official residential quarters to the vice chancellor office using police escort and siren almost running us university staff from the road - that is how low things have got. In the past a VC was not so different from the normal lecturer, in fact during my MBA program the VC then left his office matters to lecture us in a particular course as he was bored and tired of the administrative monotony. He drove himself to the classroom in his old 504 then, now this one is using Jeep plus escort to oppress everybody. Let them negotiate to N40m and pay up fast before the poor man would die there. 4 Likes |

Kidnapping is one of the perks of having police escort and security protection at a naira cost which could feed 100 of the villages in Enugu for 5years. I pray he is released unharmed. |

@dicktator don't be confused, referring to VC of Nigerian universities generally, they should stop living large and oppressing their fellow colleagues and students with university money. |

Why kidnapping remains among us include: Death penality hs nt be applied to the convicted. Families, friends and sponsors wil always come to their rescue. People negotiate with kidnappers. Regional leaders are nt serious abt cubing d crime. Poor security system. Joblessness and greediness, alot of d kidnapping are organised by rich ppl. Once u disagree with them they kidnap u and threaten u till u conform to their interest. God help in this country. When are u goin to hear our cries!!! |
Re: ESUT VC : Ransom Demand Of N200M by otokx(m): 3:04pm On Aug 18, 2012 |
@aktunde That is it o, this country is really in a mess, initially it was N1.5m starting just for vice chancellors, they claim that their position is a political one of a single 5 year term and this is for mostly federal universities. When they are leaving after 5 years they go with about 3 brand new cars 1 of which is a Toyota jeep. The thing reach to shout, was is not last year the son of a ex state VC right here on our campus arranged for his own kidnapping simply to force his father now no longer a VC but a normal professor to send him abroad. You need to see this guys leaving so large with their immediate family members who they remove from the university where they were students and pronto send them abroad. Our former VC has built a big water factory in a neighboring community with all the largesse he accumulated during his tenure, of his 4 children its only 1 that just refused to go abroad preferring as Moses to suffer with his fellow Israelite not minding that he is a prince in Egypt. 1 Like |
