Over 1000 AK 47 riffles are in circulation in Okene, Kogi State and its environs, the state Commissioner of Police Muhammed Katsina has said.

The commissioner, who disclosed this in his office yesterday in Lokoja, said the crises in the area are political and armed robbery.

He said the prime suspect in Okene attack now in police custody has been using three different names such as Sadiq, Yekini and Sani, saying this has made it difficult for him to be apprehended all this while.

According to him, the suspects have been producing Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and selling them to other armed robbers in other states, adding that it is from the prime suspects that the two riffles taken from the slain soldiers in Okene were recovered.

He said the suspect and his gang have been the brain behind armed robberies and assassination incidents around the area.

He further disclosed that the girl friend of the prime suspect has also been arrested.
