Enjoy Your Independence Folks, But Count Me Out! by gunuvi(m): 12:17pm On Aug 26, 2012 |
Hello guys, I came across this comment from one Abiodun johnson August 26, 2012 punch newspapers and I find it very interesting. What do you think? As the President, Jonathan have no choice but to declare the independence celebration. As a people, we have a choice to either participate or not. I for one, have zero reason to participate. I asked myself, since I was born, what have I done for my country, and what has my government done for me as a citizen.(Kennedy in mind) I reassured myself that I’ve tried, as a child, I acted as a child, well behaved and achieved society requirement of elementary education. As a teenager, I achieved my governments requirements to qualify for post secondary education. As an adult, I obtained my tertiary education without my government assistance, yet remained patriotic to my mother land, returned home to create ……….and help, even though my country and mother land have no input in any success I have in life. As an older adult and probably till end of my journey on earth, I am yet to see my country create any form of benefit of being a Nigerian citizen. Why celebrate sadness, insecurity, joblessness, inept leadership, unstoppable looting, murder, rape, religion and ethnic intolerance? As a foreign educated Nigerian, I have seen better in life, I have lived, breath and taste good governance, I have lived in a country where the unemployed teenagers and adults were never left alone without government assistance, I have seen how single mothers or widows of the society were never allowed to struggle on their own, I have seen how government take pride in providing robust living for their elderly and the homeless, I know how these governments take the security of their citizens as top priority, I have seen how government looters and criminals of the society were never glorified. I have seen network of bridges and highways, and high rises, I know what good roads look like, I have lived in a society where individual rights and freedom is golden, this is a country worth celebrating. For my country Nigeria, I have lived, and I have seen everything that you, the reader, have seen, and whatever you and I have seen, in my opinion, is not worthy of celebration. God said, let there be light, and there was light all over the world, except Nigeria. Enjoy you independence folks, but count me out. |
