Nigerian farmers help Nestlé address micronutrient deficiency

Thousands of farmers in Nigeria are supplying the grain for a new range of Nestlé ready-to-eat cereals designed to help address two of the country's most prevalent micronutrient deficiencies.

The company is using maize from local producers as the main ingredient in its Golden Morn family cereals, which are fortified with iron and vitamin A.

you see, this is the more reason why the government should really look into ways of improving the Agricultural sector, but they will always think its a waste of time until the worst happens.

Abeg leave cassava alone o. Must we eat fufu/Akpu as bread. Don't you know some of us are alergic to anything cassava? Or don't you know that converting it to ethanol will increase price of garri?

They are telling you the results of the government effort, you are talking old school. Some of you will just sit there and keep talking while major opportunities pass you by. There is a revolution in the agriculture sector even bigger than what's going on in the power sector. But the arm chair office loving Nigerians don't know and don't care. Those who care having being participating big time. Key crops being really cultivated right now are:

Cassava
Cocoa
Groundnut
Corn
Palm

Benefits include direct purchase of fertilizer from government without middle men.
Free enhanced seedlings for some crops
Cooperative-government assisted land acquisition for farming

Don't be told. Go find out in your state what's going on if you have an interest in farming.

This has been happening for years in Ghana where Maize is a big thing due to huge demand by Nestle Factory. I have always been wondering when it will happen in Nigeria, and I am now happy about this. Thumbs up GEJ/ Agric Minister for this!!
