Did The Catholic Church Give Us The Bible? by Nobody: 7:48pm On Sep 01, 2012
No, the Roman Catholic Church did not give us "THE Bible". How could THEY give us a Bible which teaches contrary to nearly everything they teach?

So who did?

1. First, it was God who gave us His Word.
2. Then the original scrolls were hand-written by the prophets and apostles.
3. The Aaronic Priests and later the Masorites, then made copies of the originals.

There are now no original scrolls left in existence, but we do have over 5000 copies (known as the "Majority Text"wink which God providentially made through His faithful people.

4. AD150 saw the Peshitta Bible, which was the first Syrian translation from the original languages.

5. AD157 saw the "Old Latin Vulgate", which was used in Europe by early believers. (The Old Latin Vulgate must not be confused with Jerome's Vulgate, which was produced over 220 years later in AD 380. Jerome's Vulgate (also written in Latin for the Roman Church) was rejected by the early Christians for almost a millennium. The Waldenses, Gauls, Celts, Albegenses and other groups throughout Europe used the Old Latin Vulgate and rejected Jerome's Vulgate).

6. The Waldensians (AD120 and onwards) were among the first of the people of Europe to obtain a translation of the Holy Scriptures. Hundreds of years before the Reformation, they possessed a Bible in manuscript form in their native tongue. They had the truth unadulterated, and this rendered them the special objects of hatred and persecution from Rome…Here for a thousand years, witnesses for the truth maintained the ancient faith…In a most wonderful manner the Word of God was preserved uncorrupted through all the ages of darkness.

7. Then the great early reformers translated the manuscripts into the common language for all people.

John Wycliffe translated the first English Bible from the Old Latin Vulgate. (NOT Rome's version)

William Tyndale translated the English New Testament DIRECTLY from the "Majority Text" manuscripts. And what did the Roman Catholic Church do to him? They strangled and burned him at the stake for giving the people the TRUE WORD OF GOD.

But before Tyndale died, he prayed to God to "open the King of England's eyes". And God did! which brought us the King James Version Bible (1611).

The King James Bible Old Testament was translated from the Ben Chayyim Masoretic Text; named after Jacob ben Chayyim. The true text of Ben Chayyim on which the KJV is based is the authentic Hebrew Masoretic text. It is called the Daniel Bomberg edition or the Second Great Rabbinic Bible (1524-25). This is the traditional Hebrew Masoretic Text represented by the vast majority of existing Old Testament manuscripts. The Ben Chayyim Masoretic text was the uncontested text of the Old Testament for over four hundred years.

For the New Testament, the Protestant translators of the King James Bible had a choice between two vastly different Greek texts:

1....The Received (Majority) Text favored by the early churches of Christendom (The Greek, Waldensian, Albegensian, Gauls and Celtic churches).

2....Or the Minority Text favored by the Roman Catholic Church.

Wisely they settled for the Majority Text, from which came the Received text - Textus Receptus. In making their translations they set aside the Minority Text and chose to produce versions of the Bible which were all based on the Received Text, Textus Receptus; the text used by the early Christian Church.

So what did the Roman Catholic Church bring us?

The Sinaiticus (A) and the Vaticanus(B). The Sinaiticus is a manuscript that was found in 1844 in a trash pile in St.Catherine's Monastery near Mt. Sinai. And the Vaticanus was apparently found in the Vatican library in Rome in 1481. Both of these being very impure manuscripts with many corrections in them.

The Vaticanus was available to the translators of the King James Bible, but they did not use it because they knew it was unreliable.

Who but those with Roman Catholic sympathies could ever be pleased with the notion that God preserved the true New Testament text in secret for almost one thousand years and then finally handed it over to the Roman pontiff for safekeeping? No, this is NOT how God works.

So the true answer to this question would be that the Roman Catholic Church gave us a TRANSLATION of the Bible. Based on very unreliable "minority texts".

Whereas God's TRUE Word has been preserved throughout the ages by His people and translated into Bibles such as the Geneva Bible, Tyndale's Bible and the King James Bible.

Try and do some reading, stop being lazy, I have done extensive research over many weeks, months and even years and can confirm that the catholic church did not give us the bible, this is a MYTH.

The RCC has tried to withhold the truth for too long, now they have lost this monopoly and are literally falling apart. We are no longer in the dark ages , remember ?

There was nothing like bible before the fourth century so the idea of any biblical translation before then is ridiculous.

The was no establised canon until the council of jamnia AD 100 for the jews and synod of hippo 392 AD for the christians. The first translation of the hebrew scripture was the septuagint carried out in 272 AD but it was not a defined canon and included books which were not eventually canonised.

The jerome's latin vulgate is the first biblical translation which involved all the canonised books.

Mind you scriptures and bible are not the same thing and cannot be used interchangeably. The bible is only used to refer to canonised scriptures

You should better wise up and allow people to use their head and stop influencing peoples life negatively.

Did God come from heaven to write and canonise biblical books.Does he not work through people?

The catholic church went further than just canonising the biblical books. The divided it into chapters the old scriptures was without chapters and verse it was all done by the RCC.now why would they translate and delineate the bible you people claimed it did not want people to read.

Even the entire gospels and books like act, hebrews were anonymous, the various authourship and names they now bear were decided by the catholic church.

It is now too late to change history. We are now in the age of IcT,we have google, wikipedia e.t.c

Re: Did The Catholic Church Give Us The Bible? by Delafruita(m): 9:37am On Sep 02, 2012
this were the words of the head of catholic church in syria at the time

"With reference to....the originality of the Peshitta text, as the Patriarch and Head of the Holy Apostolic and Catholic Church of the East, we wish to state, that the Church of the East received the scriptures from the hands of the blessed Apostles themselves in the Aramaic original, the language spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and that the Peshitta is the text of the Church of the East which has come down from the Biblical times without any change orrevision."

of course it has been proven that the peshitta was translated from an originally greek version but that doesnt change the fact that the catholic church compiled it

who wrote/provided the info for such history?

When you see people whose intent is to destroy the bible as to justify there following traditions.

How can it be possible that the RCC canonies the bible as God's word and end up not using it?

And end up killing people that translate it/read it?

How many things that are written in the bible do the RCC DO?

Is the bible an authority to the RCC?

It is just that by telling people that they produce the bible they only attempt at attracting people that have come to trust the bible and subsequently tell them that the bible alone is not God's word and start/continue feeding them their tradition.

Just looking at the bible it is easy to know what it is made of.

The NT is exclusively leters/writing of the Apostles.

The OT are writings of God appointed anointed:
1. prophet
2. Judges
3. kings
4. Then livites

Can you kindly explain then , based on your 'facts' why the catholic church is totally contrary to almost every principle in this very bible that they are presumed to have compiled.

Besides, there is a difference between who compiled the bible and who wrote or inspired scripture, it is plain throughout scripture that God can actually use his enemies to achieve his purposes.

"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases." - Proverbs 21:1

Even Pharaoh in his stubborn fight against God fulfilled God's purpose which was the deliverance of his people Israel.

Same thing with the Israelites and Romans of Palestine, by killing Jesus they fulfilled God's plan for the salvation of mankind.

Finally ,there is a big difference between collecting a number of scriptures which were used by the real church and compiling them into one central book and boast that 'we' gave you the bible, what utter nonsense.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" - 2 Timothy 3:16

Vatican archives, and why is that ?

I have been to the Vatican once and seen all the pagan madness to never want to go back there again. I mean common , how can you call it a church with all the dead popes mummified , pagan idols littering all over the place , overwhelming opulence and wealth at the expense of the poor masses, heretical writings and all other nonsensical sorts.

the letter the apostles wrote went to churches that were form by the apostles especially apostle paul.

This leters address the needs of those christians and they kept them as God's word.

THis christians were told to copy the letters and sent to the next congregation in the other cities so that they can learn from those writhing.

This letters were written to congregations and not to a central body but to different congregations and this congregations had this letters from the time of the apostles in the first century (1CE)
and they had it/kept them till the fourth century (4CE) that the catholics claim to canonise the bible.

Did the catholics withthrew all the letters that the congregations had from the apostle from the 1CE up to the 3rdCE befor the canonization took place and subsequently sent it back to them?

It is obvious That they are lying as it is clearly known that they simply put a stamp on what was already in existent to make themself relevant and politicise things.

They have nothing closely resembling the claim of providing the bible that we have today.
