The Bank of Industry has stated that about 250,000 jobs were created in 2011 as a result of the sharp rise in the volume of loans and advances.
The chairman of the Shareholders Committee of BOI, Mohammed Dikwa, made this known at the 52nd annual general meeting of the bank in Abuja.
Dikwa stated that the bank would continue to accord priority to the promotion of projects that had very high potential for development such as employment generation and wealth creation.
He noted that the bank made highly impressive strides towards delivering on its mandate by recording a phenomenal rise in the volume of loans and advances to N73,478,308 billion in 2011 from N41,709623 billion in 2010.

Dikwa said that the leap in loans and advances contributed to the 45.97per cent increase in gross income in 2011 to N16,886482 billion from N11,568,450 billion in 2010.

He, however, noted that the provisions for bad and doubtful debts rose to N2,986,168. He added that the provisions were based on more stringent and conservative finacial reporting requirements contained in the Central Bank of Nigeria's Prudential Guidelines.
