Didier Drogba's Chinese Super League football coming to Eurosport

Eurosport has agreed an exclusive TV rights deal to Chinese Super League, the emerging Asian football league featuring stars such as Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

The pan-European sports broadcaster's deal covers the remainder of the 2012 season, along with the 2013 and 2014 seasons from China.

The Chinese Super League is currently on the expansion with a fresh influx of money and famous players increasing its profile around the world.

For 2012, the league was expanded from 12 teams to 16 teams, but it was the arrival of major football stars from leading European clubs that helped it hit the headlines.

Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka left Chelsea for Shanghai Shenhua, and former Barcelona star Seydou Keita is now playing for Dalian Aerbin.

Eurosport 2 will start the live coverage of Chinese Super League on October 20 at 1.45pm CET (12.45pm GMT), when Shanghai Shenhua take on Changchun Yatai.

This will be followed by Dalian Aerbin versus Shanghai Shenhua on October 27 at 9.30am CET, and the season closer tie between Shanghai Shenhua and Qingdao on November 3 at 10am CET.

Alongside TV, live coverage of matches will be available on the internet and mobile via the Eurosport Player streaming service. This will be key for many viewers due to the time difference to China.

Eurosport 2 is fast becoming the place to watch Asian football, as Chinese Super League joins the already available coverage of Japan's J League and Asia's AFC Champions League club competition.

Kenya Confirm Challenge Cup Participation

KENYA has officially agreed to compete in this year's Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) to be held in Uganda between November 24 and December 8.

The development was announced by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chairman Sam Nyamweya on Sunday. He said on the federation's website www.fkf.co.ke that they reached the decision after meeting Cecafa chairman Leodgar Tenga.

Initially, FKF had announced that they would skip the regional tournament and focus on the CHAN championship where Kenya is scheduled to face Burundi due to the clash of dates.

Nyamweya, however, noted that they would also not change the date for the CHAN qualifiers and that Kenya would honour both matches.

Kenya's first CHAN qualifier is on December 1, just six days after the start of Cecafa and coach Henry Michel could be forced to have two teams to honour both tournaments.

Anichebe Makes Racism Point

Everton striker Victor Anichebe has confirmed he will be the latest player to refuse to wear a 'Kick It Out' T-shirt.

Anichebe said: "Are we really kicking it out? There's a situation that's just happened. I believe in kicking racism out of everything, not just football - kick it out of society."Situations have happened and I don't feel the outcome has been just. I won't wear the T-shirt, I don't think it's right to wear it. If other people want to wear it that's their right."

"I don't want to be some poster boy for Kick Racism Out of Football. You don't really see the T-shirts until something happens, then we decide to wear the T-shirts."

Bafana Dedicate Afcon to Madigage

Pretoria — Bafana Bafana will dedicate the 2013 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) to their late assistant coach Thomas Madigage, who passed away in a car accident in the early hours of Friday, 19 October.

Bafana head coach Gordon Igesund, who is still devastated by the untimely death of his assistant, who was affectionately known as 'Chincha Guluva', said: "Tommy, who was a committed Zion Christian Church (ZCC) member, still had so much to contribute to the country and his loss will be felt by all South Africans.

"He was so looking forward to the Afcon finals and it will be very difficult to participate without him. We will dedicate our Afcon campaign to him."

South Africa will host the 2013 Afcon tournament, which kicks off on January 19 until February 10.

Madigage was involved in an accident in Burgersfort, 30km from his home. Attempts to revive him failed and he passed away on the scene. According to the South African Football Association (Safa), he will be buried in his home town of Driekop, 120km east of Polokwane on Sunday, 28 October.

His memorial service will take place in Johannesburg on Friday, 26 October. The venue is yet to be confirmed.

Legend Roger Milla rounds on Fecafoot

Roger Milla believes poor management has led to Cameroon losing their status as a continental superpower.

The former African champions have been in freefall for some time now, tumbling down the Fifa world rankings to an all-time low of 66.

The Indomitable Lions were also absent from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations - a tournament they have won four times.

Milla told BBC Sport that the team's decline is a microcosm of the problems facing Fecafoot - the body responsible for running the game in the country.

"We need to change the present situation in Cameroon football in which certain people have taken the team hostage," Milla said.

"A new approach to the way the team is run is needed to give opportunities to new players," he added.

The former Indomitable Lion said unless changes are made at the top of Cameroon's football pyramid, the national team will continue to struggle.

"There is a system where players are selected on sentiment; if a player is not in the good books of the federation, then he's not called to the national team.

"We must select competent players to inject new life in the team and turn things around.

"I want an impartial federation; some of the people in office should quit and make room for competent persons capable of change," said the 1987 African Footballer of the Year.

Milla, who took the 1990 World Cup finals by storm, has often clashed with football authorities in his homeland, accusing them of hindering progress.

Botswana 'Used Overage Players'

Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) has reported Botswana to the Confederation of African Football for using overage players in the return leg of the 2013 African U-17 Youth Championships qualifiers.

Reliable sources in the national football governing body, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorised to talk to the media in official capacity, intimated to Times Sport that up to six Young Zebras' players were over the age of 17 years, the standard age limit.

They include; Kgosipula Keeagile (no.16), Outlule Wakgotra (no.4), Djisele Lebogang (no.6), Daniel Kedidmetse (no.1), Kebue Thato (no.21) and Patrick Ramatrapeng Thatayaone (no.7).

News of Rwanda taking the case to the continental governing body, which sanctions the championships, was confirmed yesterday by Ferwafa chairman Celestin Ntagungira.

"We have enough evidence that six of Botswana players were above 17 years of age and we have already submitted a complaint to CAF. We're waiting to hear from them (CAF)," the local football federation boss told this paper, adding that they have even paid the US$1200 (a fee that accompanies such complaints).

If found guilty, Botswana faces disqualification hence handing the initiative back to Rwanda, who will go on to face the winner between Sudan and Algeria in the final qualifying round.

Sudan, despite losing over the two legs, progressed to the next round at the expense of Somalia, who used overage players and were disqualified.

Chelsea Offers Mikel New 5-Year Deal

European champions Chelsea will reward the consistency of John Mikel Obi with a new, improved five-year contract, his agent has announced.

"Mikel will soon sign a new five-year deal with Chelsea. He will sign a new five-year contract with obviously an improved salary," said the player's agent John Ola Shittu.

"We are just about finalising the details of the deal and it can be announced anytime soon by the club.

"He has a year left on his contract and Chelsea has decided to add four more years to it."

However, Shittu refused to disclose the financial aspects of the new deal for his player, who is reportedly on about 80,000 pounds a week.

In 2006, Mikel opted for Chelsea ahead of Manchester United in a long-drawn transfer saga.

Nigeria: We Don't Have Qualified Coaches - Ameachi

Nigeria lacks qualified coaches to drive the country's sporting sector, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River State has said.

He said this while speaking on behalf of the 36 State Governors in the country at the Presidential Sports retreat at the State House on Monday.

"We don't have coaches. If they are here, they should come forward and let us see them", he lamented.

Ameachi continue: "coaching is not I'm a former player, let me coach." The current coaching crew we have, have no business coaching for the time being."

He maintained that until the coaches are trained on the current world standard in their respective sports, all resources that will be committed to sports will be a waste.

Kalusha Bwalya Prays for a Favourable Draw for Champions Zambia

Kalusha Bwalya, the president of Football Association of Zambia, sighed with relief when his country secured qualification to the 2013 Orange Africa Cup of Nations with a fraught penalty-shootout win over Uganda, and now he's confident they can defend their title in South Africa.

Zambia won their first continental title at 2012 Gabon and Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations finals earlier this year, edging favourites Ivory Coast on penalties, but their participation in next year's tournament in South Africa looked to be in jeopardy when they lost 1-0 to Uganda in Kampala in the second leg final qualifier to leave the match tied 1-1 in aggregate. The Chipolopolo, however, kept their nerve in the penalty shootout, and Bwalya conceded he was relieved to see Zambia take their place as one of the 15 finalists who join hosts South Africa in the final draw for next year's tournament. "It would have been a travesty had we failed to make it to South Africa to defend our trophy," Bwalya said in Durban ahead of Wednesday's final draw. "I told the players that they needed to put everything into that final match against Uganda. Ultimately, we kept our nerve and we showed why we are champions by winning in the penalty shootout."

Zambia are among the seeded teams for Wednesday's draw, which will take place at the Chief Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in the coastal city of Durban, one of four hosts selected to host next year's event. Bwalya is glad that his country, who will be in Group C, will avoid big guns such as Ivory Coast and Ghana. "It's the first time ever that we are seeded and I'm happy with that. We will avoid the hosts (South Africa), Ghana and Ivory Coast - which are all tough teams. We won't have added pressure as we attempt to defend this title. We played against Ghana in the semi-finals in Gabon and Ivory Coast in the final. It would be great to face teams we haven't played in a while because that could be our motivation. It could lift our game because we don't know much about those teams."

Bwalya though, conceded he doesn't want to see Zambia in a tough group. "We don't want a group of death, no. But having said that, every game is tough. We will have to be thoroughly prepared." Zambia will be based at Mbombela/Nelspruit along with other Group C teams, which Bwalya welcomed. He and Zambia's French coach, Herve Renard, have already viewed facilities at South Africa's Mpumalanga province, of which Mbombela is the capital.

United making plans for new boss

Manchester United's owners know the "type" of manager they want to replace Sir Alex Ferguson and have a plan in place for when the need arises.

Ferguson, who turns 71 on New Year's Eve, is yet to put a date on retirement but it is widely expected to be before his 75th birthday.

The club, though, admit that they are aware of how they will go about replacing Ferguson - but vice-chairman Ed Woodward insists they will not even look at the plan until they need to.

"We have a view as to what type of manager we want and how and when we'll go about it," he is quoted by The Sun.

"But it's in the drawer and long may it stay in the drawer."

Woodward, who has already insisted the club's owners the Glazers intend to keep control of United for many years, stressed that money would always be available to bolster the squad.

He said: "Every single player Sir Alex Ferguson has wanted to buy he has been supported. Some have slipped through our fingers but we have never said that we cannot afford a player. Robin van Persie is a good example; one of the best players in the world and we easily had the financial capacity to do that.

"We have a pretty low level of leverage. Interest payments of £31million leaves a significant amount of money, around £76million and we decide what we do with that.

"We are very comfortable about the ability to fund the interest and there will be more income growth next year from the new Premier League media deal."
