Its very unfortunate that Nigeria is getting negative attention with the Gazpron deal but we really need to work on our foreign investment behavior. below are two articles which i found interesting.

What do you expect a Western paper like the FT to say? Russia getting hold of more oil and gas is no good for them - it makes them even more dependent, especially for Europe. While Gazprom is kicking companies like Shell out of major Russian projects, it is now 'encroaching' on traditional Western hunting grounds like Nigeria.

We need to make sure we allow Gazprom come in and develop these same resources Shell and co have dilly dallied over for decades, giving a litany of excuses from low gas prices to poor gas infrastructure.

We need accelerated development of our gas reserves, not only for monetary gains but to halt the environmental degradation from gas flaring. If the Shells and Exxon's of this world won't do it, let Gazprom do it if appropriate agreements can be reached. We also need expanded infrastructure to power the newly built power plants, over dependence on Shell for gas is not doing us good. We need to diversify the interests to our own advantage.

The truth is, Gazprom may have cash to burn but will have a lot of work to do to ramp up production. Even folks like BG who came in a few years back are still not producing yet. I think this is more of a strategic move more than any short term interest.

If they do bring in $2.5b let it be channeled into building gas distribution infrastructure to supply LPG locally and gas for the power stations. If we are going to burn gas, we might as well get useful energy from it.

improve what? I don't get your point

the articles speak primarily of Western fears/suspicion over Gazprom's entry into Nigeria. . .are we supposed to pander to the West and keep them out? I really don't know what improvement you want. I am in support of more players coming into the industry, since our own NOC/NNPC has failed to pull its weight; especially companies who will impact the larger economy through power generation and other related projects, not simply oil exploration and export alone.
