I'm also an architect nd I drive a Honda babyboy but I'v been in a lot of situations that I wished I had a pick-up truck but I figure an SUV is the ideal middle ground. I was goin to say "Toyota!!!" For either a car or pick-up b'cos they're peerless when it comes to durability and maintainance ( Not necessarily drivin pleasure ) but u culd try Nissan SUVs lyk Xterra if that's your taste.

I love the Ford mondeo. Its actually the best car in its segment which includes Camrys, Accords and Passats. I'm not too sure bout the availabilty of its parts or costs. Honda accords and Toyota Camrys are the default choices in Nigeria due to availability of parts and durability. Another car I admire is the Golf IV. Manual gear(auto is problematic),4-door with a 1.6 liter engine. Once it runs smooth and the interior trim is neat, I'm good to go. At that price there are more options u culd still explore though.

The Ford Mondeo is a good choice provided parts are affordable and available. And, hey its not as if cars break down everyday. U culd confirm its manufacture date on the lower part of seatbelt. It has a very good drive, almost like a BMW i hear.

That's good to hear. Had distant thots of upgrading to an early to mid 2000 model due to hondas and toyotas being toooooo common, I lyk a bit of individuality. Do u hav info on availability of parts on that particular type??

Get a Honda civic. U can beat it and punish it and it will always keep going. Buy a tool box and FSB ( factory service bulletin) and you can learn how to do general maintenance on it. Most drivers in Nigeria cant differentiate between engine and transmission fluid.
Then u can move up to whatever u want. U have to remenber that buying a car is the easiest part, the trick is keeping it running forever...
