Abagworo:
New Orlu Stadium is named after Sam Okwaraji an Orlu native who died on the pitch while playing for Nigeria some decades ago.

Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji (19 May 1964 – 12 August 1989) was a professional footballer who played internationally for Nigeria. He was also a qualified lawyer who had a masters in international law from the University of Rome. He collapsed and died of congestive heart failure in the 77th minute of a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State on 12 August 1989.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Okwaraji

Gov Okorocha ought to have known:

In govt official gazette, Sam Okwaraji Stadium is the Stadium in Orlu between Ihioma Road and Alhaji Tijani Street.
The Stadium was commissioned by Nigeria's federal government led by President Obasanjo in May 2007; dedicated to and named after Sam Okwaraji, the late Nigerian footballer from Orlu.

So, how come gov Okorocha is giving the name Sam Okwaraji, to the new stadium he is building in Orlu?

Rochas Okorocha is a SUPER PRODIGAL SON for Imo West Senatorial Zone.
The Prodigal son in the Bible is even better than Rochas Okorocha, at least he built his father's farm, later repented.
Okorocha did not build Imo West, he destroyed the zone - never repented.

Grow up; tell us what we do not know.
We know that it's normal for everyone to come online and insult Rochas.
However, this is Imo thread where bright minds have reasonable discussions.
If you don't have any positive contribution to make on this thread, use the exit.
I don't want to assume that this is one of Chino's countless accounts.

This IMO state IGR of a thing should not cause argument. From the statistics presented, IMO generated more IGR than all the SE states in only 3rd quarter of 2018. Enugu still has the largest IGR from 1st to 3rd quarter combined. Go and recheck the statistics and see for yourself. Enugu has the largest IGR in the SE. The impressive part is that IMO state generated over 4 billion naira for 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters thereby putting its IGR at over 12 billion, by the time the 4th quarter IGR is added, it will rise to a total of over 16 billion which is a large improvement compared to the barely 6 billion IMO generated in 2017. Even at this new IGR, IMO state's IGR is only bigger than that of Ebonyi state in the SE and has to do more to generate even higher IGR.

Enugu had the largest all year round based on the government land sold in 1st quarter that generated unusually high income but after that Imo seems to be on the rise. Others are either stagnating or retrogressing.

others are not stagnating, they are in fact going backwards. Anambra and Abia really disappointed me last year.

Abia should be generating a lot of IGR because of the large Aba economic cluster. I don't know whats going on there. If Aba were to be in Lagos, LASG would have taxed the living hell out of them.

Overall Anambra and Enugu are still leading in IGR, followed by Abia. Imo IGR is only higher than that of Ebonyi. It is a shame for Imo state for Imo state created over 40yrs ago.

That's the point, in other words Imo state is still the least in the SE. For Imo state to catch up with the rest of SE, it should move away from brothels and commercial sex hawking which has formed the economic mainstay of the state and develop a well articulated industrial roadmap, if not the state will continue to be in the woods.

@ the emboldened, this is certainly not the best.
Lagos-based businessmen are groaning because of high taxes. Funnily enough, LASG doesn't care as they are even taking the land use tax seriously. Sadly, businesses are taxed for everything in Lagos, including their sign posts, which LASAA measures and taxes annually.

The truth is, all this happens because it is Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria. But I think it's a way of discouraging small business owners from moving to Lagos because Lagos is already overcrowded.

If another state tries this nonsense, there will be a mass exodus of companies from that state. Overtaxation kills businesses.

True talk, However, the IGR of Abia is so meager, one of the reasons, large scale infrastructural projects are not being carried out. If Aba business men can be *Effectively Taxed* their taxes would be used to develop aba. with little assistance from the state coffers.

There's two reasons for this: the useless and visionless governors they've been saddled with from 1999-date; and the Nigerian political-economy!

They can't do much about the latter, but the former is entirely of their making! Aba ordinarily should have taken advantage of its proximity to Port Harcourt like Ogun (Agbara) has done with Lagos...this is despite the Nigerian political-economy not giving it the advantages Agbara has!

The fault solely lies with the State Government.

Wow and imo has not started yet,
Since Abia state has failed to make do of its proximity to ph, we imolites should target greater port harcourt city and key into its development, since the new greater port harcourt city is closer to Imo while the old port harcourt city is closer to Aba.
I want to see imo develop, I want to see our economy grow, jobs created, employment generated.

My only question I keep on asking is why is Apc bent on picking hope uzodinma against Uche nwosu. It's not about godfatherism but something is fishy that no one has explained to me, is it from the rochas side this fish is coming from or oshiomoles side

They voted out their govt in 2015 only to be rigged out of their popular will. They will vote them out again next month. Only difference this time is if they can stop the rigging

Abia just needs a change in govt and watch Aba take off like a rocket and become the number 1 city in the Southeast again

As someone from Owerri section of Imo, one can not be surprised that you support Rochas, we knw its simply cos he spent his entire years in office developing only your section of the state. But Man pass monkey, the day of judgement is here. Hope simpply needs to remind Okigwe and Orlu zone of how Rochas has neglected them, with a promise to treat them better to win. You all shall come here to lament watch the space.
