We have been weaker before; The late 1200s...

There was a time where Islam was at its brink of collapse... The Mongols raided the muslim lands..... Almost a million people were killed in baghdad , the capital of Islam and the seat of the caliph. Baghdad was the center of science, art and technology at that time... The caliph was captured and killed... The scholars of Islam were herded and killed. Allepo and Damascus fell also at the hands of the Mongols. Persia was captured..... Muslims lived in fear...

The mongols seemed unbeatable, invincible... They had never lost a close battle..

For the first time in our history, we had no leadership, no caliph...

The last forte of Islam was in Egypt, Egypt was ruled by the mamluks. If Egypt was captured, All of the major cities of muslim rule would have been in the hands of the mongols and possibly the decline of all of Islam...

The mongols military leader, Hulagu Khan wrote a letter to the Muslim leader, Qutuz in egypt:

From the King of Kings of the East and West, the Great Khan. To Qutuz the Mamluk, who fled to escape our swords. You should think of what happened to other countries and submit to us. You have heard how we have conquered a vast empire and have purified the earth of the disorders that tainted it. We have conquered vast areas, massacring all the people. You cannot escape from the terror of our armies. Where can you flee? What road will you use to escape us? Our horses are swift, our arrows sharp, our swords like thunderbolts, our hearts as hard as the mountains, our soldiers as numerous as the sand. Fortresses will not detain us, nor arms stop us. Your prayers to God will not avail against us. We are not moved by tears nor touched by lamentations. Only those who beg our protection will be safe. Hasten your reply before the fire of war is kindled. Resist and you will suffer the most terrible catastrophes. We will shatter your mosques and reveal the weakness of your God and then will kill your children and your old men together. At present you are the only enemy against whom we have to march.

Qutuz beheaded the messengers, and hung their heads on the gates of cairo....

The dynamics changed quickly though, Great Khan Mongke leader of the mongols died.... Hulagu took the majority of his army into persia until the power vaccum was resolved... About (10,000 -20000) men were left....

The mamluks saw this as an opportunity and prepared for war, The battle of ain jalut (supposed to be where david killed goliath). With about the same size of troops, The Muslims defeated the mongols for the first time in close combat, No one had ever done that before. They never recovered.... Attempts to revenge were successfully repelled by the muslims.

By the early 1300s, The mongols who once threatened the very existence of Islam eventually became muslims while they ruled in persia....

Underneath the rumble arose another great Islamic empire, the Ottomans who ruled for over 600 years....

Thus, saving Christian Europe from destructive tendencies of Mongols. Had the Mongols conquered muslims they would have invaded Europe and definately inflicted massive destruction upon them.

The memluks also kicked out the remnants of the crusaders on muslim lands ending the era of the crusaders....

We are weak again, and establishing the caliphate looks like a mirage.
