50 Yrs is still too far. Besides, Science didn't say its gonna be hurricane. I am sure its going to be gradual rise in water level and everyone will have opportunity to leave or be evacuated. The lesson to learn here is to make sure one build extra homes at other high topographic states in case there is need to go on holiday from Lagos for 2 months until the tides subside. For me its not bad news. Warnings are usually not bad news. I dont think it will be up to 50yrs, I believe it will happen sooner cos the Glaciers are melting at astronomical speed.

One more thing, Lagos will not 'vanish', it might be a little wet and soaked. Be not afraid!

Those that are building and buying houses on v.I, lekki, banana island might be the first to witness this, but I don't think this is gonna happen.

Everyone enlightened and devoid of sentiments knows this but I won't go as far as saying Lagos will disappear. It will be a different place though.

True, some parts will become desolate, true, a lot of poor people will loose their homes and take to floating dwellings but for those who can afford it the government will probably build compleq and expensive sea defences that will astronomically raise the cost of tenancy and lead to an exodus.

In summary, I don't think averse climatic conditions themselves determine the viability of settlements but the cost of coping viz. the wealth of communities affected. If our per capita remains the way it is by then (hope not) then the only thing left standing in VI in 50 years might as well be the Mike Adenuga Towers with Paddy's yatch parked outside.

I will advise you chose your forum of discussions wisely. You might have been discussing with people, whose IQ may be a little above 3% and no matter what you tell them about Global Warming, they might think its conspiracy Theory or doomsday prophecy. Birds of the same feather flock together.

Oh my dear Mr Abayomi (the Chief Meteorologist), I really missed you at NIMET Oshodi. I miss watching you devour, with reckless abandon, your daily Iya Bisi amala and ewedu meal with over 8 big pieces of ram meat while your big eyes (Jide Kosoko type) roll in their sockets.
But one thing is sure, your FORECASTS are usually so ACCURATE with less than 0.01 deviation.
Oh, how you would always guide me, like a father, while I try to make a forecast at the CFO.
Most yoruba people are nice o but people may not understand.

Lets face the fact, I know what I mean, if you have argued with art student's about technology and possible things u can do/achieve as a science student's, na now u go see arguement.

Well as for me, I don't argue with art students on my field (CS) to avoid discouragement.

Climate change is real, but the unfortunate thing is that no one can stop it. The Climate changes from time to time it was climate change millions of years ago that whipped away and ended the age of the dinosaurs and series of climate changes has occured since then without interference by anyone, it was the stable climate for a couple of thousand years that enabled the evolution of man and other species as it is today so this now may be the coming of the end of the days of man because if the climate changes so much and it becomes unbearable for man, we will all die off and give way for other species that will adapt better to the new environment so enjoy the time you have now or repent if you believe in God.
So the submergence of Lagos is big and unfortunate but not the only one to Occur. I just hope for once that science is wrong here.

I've always thought it foolish that lagos state government is reclaiming sea at eko atlantic instead of building estates and developing other parts of the state like epe and badagry.
I doubt if that eko atlantic project can even exist till 2030 before the sea reclaims it back.
Water almost always reclaims its territory back later.
People living in ajah and lekki should be warned, even if lagos survives being washed off in 50 years, those areas would be a meter under water in 50 years.
Re: Climate Change: Lagos May Vanish In 50 Years - Experts by donigspain(m): 10:16pm On Oct 05, 2012
THIS IS NOT CONSPIRACY!!!
The government and the people better become proactive before it goes out of hand. The 'vanishing' of Lagos is not going to be GRADUAL as most people might think. Lagos is just a few meters above MSL (Mean Sea Level) and as such a little more rise than normal in MSL/tide plus the strong wave which is quite typical of Lagos coastal front means doom (flash flood).
BE WARNED!!!
