Lere Olayinka: Prisoner of Conscience.
Update: I have been reliably informed that Mr Olayinka, a journalist, and the Chief Press Officer to the National Vice Chairman of PDP SW, Chief Segun Oni, who was arrested yesterday, 09/10/12, by policemen attached to the Ekiti state Govt House remains in detention. Available information is that he was tortured, dragged on the ground, subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment by these policemen. He has so far been denied access to medical treatment for his injuries sustained at the hands of the Ekiti state Govt House security men. It is unbelievable and unacceptable for a journalist to be so subjected to such level of brutality and degrading treatment in a democratic Nation like Nigeria.. This is an affront on democracy , freedom and free speech that must be condemned, resisted by all well meaning Nigerians. Ekiti people and Nigerians will hold Ekiti state Gov. Dr Kayode Fayemi and the ACN leadership responsible for this affront on Mr Olayinka's freedom and fundamental human rights. We are using this medium to appeal to the IGP and the Ekiti state CP to ensure that Mr Olayinka is no longer subjected to any form of maltreatment physically or psychologically, granted access to medical treatment, access to legal services, and released immediately and unconditionally , without further delay.

cooldipo: I have been reliably informed that Mr Olayinka, the Chief Press Officer to the National Vice Chairman of PDP SW, Chief Segun Oni, .............. It is unbelievable and unaceptable for a journalist to be so subjected to such level in a democratic Nation like Nigeria..

Though am not in support of maltreatments and inhumane treatments of any citizen of Nigeria either journalist, students, traders, doctor or roadside mechanic. But it is quite unfortunate, unaceptable, blackmailing for a politicians to be refered to as journalist, because once you are an active and office holder of a political party you can never function as a fair journalist again. So for a well known politician to hide under journalism goodwill to seek sympaty is abuse of profesional previlege which if not look into by profesional body, may affect peaple's perception and sympaty on that profesion in the near future.

It is just like Ruben Abati or Doyin okupe being attack and they now call it attack on journalist just for them to benefit from journalism goodwill, is'nt it wrong?
