The eagles played well towards the end of the first half and at the beginning of the 2nd half, but after CIV scored, they became somewhat demoralized.  I was almost dazing those guys thru the TV screeen when they were playing so sluggishly in the box 18, passing balls like they tied rope to their legs.  This was at a time we needed a goal the most, but they fumbled.  One major problem I think we have is the lack of pace.  Apart from Martins who wasn't really getting the balls, no one else has the pace required to beat the Ivorian defence, and so we were solely relying on our dribbling skills (which was quite pathetic by the way) and were busy 'over-defending'.  Kalou's goal was a very wonderful goal I must admit though.

What I still don't understand is why Berti Vogts will make Kanu start the game, knowing fully well that he's our super sub.  If anyone remembers clearly, this was the same bloody mistake the then coach made in 2006 against this same Cote D'Ivoire!!

its not berti's fault. its the fault of those self-imposed ajebota players. without a coach, they should be able to perform. they are big stars in the premiership.

Looking at the game, I think a lot need to be done to revitalize soccer in Nigeria. In fact, blaming the coach, methinks, is not the right step to take. The players, from what I saw, are not in any bad shape.

A drastic change in the system of play is what is urgently needed. This slow kind of football wouldn't take us nowhere. In the next game, if no change in style is adopted, I am afraid, we might be kicked out of the tournament earlier than we had ever imagined.

I agree with u. the problem with nigerian football is not the coach. it has more to do sports devt. in the state. other countries are producing genuine talent while we are just sitting and trying to look pretty.

Well that might be due to the fact that there was no drawing board to start with. Instaed of going back to a non existent drawing board it might be helpful if we actually built one .

However, this does not spell the end of Nigeria in this tourney. Lets face it, we just played against what to me is the strongest team in Africa at the moment. We all know that we dont have a fantastic team right now. We lost 1:0. Big deal. We will still play for sometime in the tourney but definitely not to the finals. We just dont have a team that is good enough!!!
