A gang of armed robbers on Sunday night killed two policemen and two others in a deadly attack around World Oil Filling Station at Ibafo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Witnesses said the robbers, numbering about 15, came in jeeps. On arrival, one of them shot a plain-clothed policeman straightaway.

The gunmen it was learnt engaged some policemen and vigilance group members at the filling station in a gun duel, shooting sporadically in a bid to crush the resistance and scare away people.

As a result, bullets flew round, hitting an unspecified number of people. Bizarrely, no reinforcement came from Ibafo Police Station, located less than a kilometre away from the scene.

Presently, the walls of the deserted filling station were riddled with bullet holes as hundreds of spent bullet littered the environment; an evidence of a horrific battle.

Only few weeks ago, robbers attacked Jimken Filling Station, a few metres away from this latest attack site, killing a customer.

The rate of robbery operations has increased nationwide in the past few months.

Childish. What exactly have u achieved? @op, so speachless that these security issues daily are becoming normal. A day wdout bomb blast or accidents or kidnapping or robbery claiming tens of lives is almost impossible. Government have failed,we are responsible for our own security. Very pathetic

So true, I was at the bus-stop waiting for bus to convey me home when i heard gun-shots, It really was a night to forget for me. I thank God for sparing my life. Useless Ibafo Police Station that would only start releasing tear-gas when the armed robber are already gone and doing gra-gra. Na only God go save us for this country. Meanwhile First Bank Plc that is between both JimKem and World Oil in Ibafo has closed down this morning, if its connected to the re-current robbery operation, no one knows.

I'm trying to understand why the States (Lagos/Ogun for instance) can't have a joint squad of specially trained, highly motivated squad (SWAT styled). Assemble a team of like 200 of these guys and give them the best ammo, hi-tech comm and surveillance gizmos, training, excellent remuneration (paid holidays, life insurance, free healthcare etc) and have them ready to scramble to anywhere within a 50-km radius in Lagos/Ogun within 20 minutes. I'm sure there must be a budget somewhere to train and sustain such a team. Banks for instance would gladly contribute to fund this considering the amount they lose to armed robbery incidents yearly. Someone pls educate me why this won't work. I could remember the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during the Abacha days and they significantly reduced armed robbery in Lagos then. Is this not doable again? these robbers don dey get too brave.

That's to show how weak our security system is. Don't blame the police, what firearms do they have that they will use to face those armed to the teeth robbers. oga o

This will be great if considered. but the way things are happening in this country, someone is tempted to think that the country is under a spell or cursed.
