Integrity Nigeria Up Against Corruption With The ‘spirit Of Egunje’ by PaulJohn1: 7:39pm On Oct 30, 2012
“The fight against corruption is a personal and serious one.” A review of Integrity Nigeria’s Spirit of Egunje campaign

Corruption is endemic in Nigeria and its pangs are far reaching, denying millions of Nigerians the rights to life, daily.
This is the reason Integrity Nigeria, an organization that focuses solely on combating corruption and promoting good governance has taken the campaign against anti corruption a notch higher.

The group said the the cost of corruption has become more costly to Nigeria’s existence now, more than ever before.
“Since it has eaten into the very fabric of our nation, we want to expose it… we do not want to sit down and watch it destroy us,” the Integrity group holds.
Hence, it created a means to ‘set fire to corruption’ in Nigeria – The Spirit of Egunge.

The Spirit of Egunje is a journey out of the box. Very much unlike other anti-corruption campaigns, it is set in form of a competition. Promoting critical thinking and intellectualism amongst its target audience –young people within the age range of 15-40 years, the Spirit of Egunje will seek to “chase out corruption” in Nigeria for good.

The Spirit of Egunje will engender debates on bribe giving and taking, with ordinary citizen giving their perception of the culture of bribe which is the literal meaning of Egunje.

It will utilize the widened public sphere created by the internet and social media to encourage citizen participation in the fight against corruption.
The Spirit of Egunje competition is divided into five categories – best story, best poem, best song/video, best art/cartoon and the most involved person on twitter advocating against corruption using the hashtag #Egunjeinfo.

The competition will take place on November 22, 2012 in Abuja. However, entry for the competition closes on Friday, November 2.
In order to be eligible to participate in the competition, candidate must follow Public Integrity networks on facebook and on twitter with the handle @PINS2015.

On the integrity website( http://integritynigeria.org/ ), useful information about anti-corruption and the Spirit of Egunje competition can be found.
