Urgent! How Do I Remove Ballpoint Ink From My Car Leather Seat? by funkeemi(f): 6:55pm On Oct 31, 2012
I don't know if this is the right place for this topic, but since you guys are talking cars, I hope you'll be able to help me. My 2-yr-old son has defaced my car seat with ballpoint ink and it's really making my car look ugly. I read somewhere that i can use alcohol, is it true? If yes, what kind of alcohol? I'm not familiar with alcohol at all, neither is my husband. If you've successfully removed ink stain from your leather before, please tell me how. Thanks.

Try any form of alcohol, even if its those gin in satchets, or methylated spirit. Those are powerful solvents you have there. However, f your leather seat isn't black (and i suspect it isn't), i advise you dilute the alcohol a bit first, to reduce the concentration to avoid bleaching your leather. If u apply and it looks 'safe', you may increase the concentration a bit.

Or just look for some leather seat cleaners in spray cans. It works wonders. You spray on the leather and wipe with a cloth. you should get it at any mechanics' village / vehicle products store.....or maybe even at some large supermarkets.

Removing ball point ink stain from a car leather seat...
A little bit tricky-ish buh dis is just my own way...
Use KEROSINE!!!
The ink in ball point pens are oil based products, while felt tip pens are water based. Alcohol is water soluble, so its only good for the felt pen ink, while kerosine is petroleum based and the oil based ball point is soluble in it. This means kerosine or all other petroleum products can dissolve it.
These're what you need;
1. Kerosine
2. Three no.s of clean piece of cotton towel/ face towel.
3. An empty plastic bottled water container (Ragolis, La Casera, coke etc.)
4. Detergent (preferably Klin)
5. A 2 inch nail (small)
6. Water
7. A Bucket
8. A bowl.
SO HERE IS THE PROCEDURE
- Fill the empty plastic bottle half way with kerosine and screw the caps tightly to seal it. (reason, you don't wanna ruin your car's interior wit kerosine!)
- make a tiny hole on the container's cap using the 2 inch nail (a hole enough to let the kerosine pass through)
- Take one of the cotton towel and soak a little portion of it wit the kerosine. Be careful not to add to many, to avoid it dripping unto the car seats. (dats the reason for the small hole in the first place)
- Gently dab the kerosine unto the stained area wit the kerosine-damped towel. Reason; so as to have kerosine on the stain surface enough to soak and dissolve it. (Avoid to much dabbing as this will make the kerosine drip and smearing dissolved ink unto other un-affected areas.
- Allow the kerosine to fully penetrate and dissolve the stains for at least 5-10mins.
- If there are more than one stain spot, repeat this process on other spots.
- Sqeeze out the kerosine-damped towel and begin to wipe off the stains. Use a clean area of the towel for every stains you want to wipe off.
- If the stains 're not wiped out completely, re-soak again and wipe off.
- After the stain must've gone, you will see some residual stain of the kerosine, more like an oil stain on the fabric.
- Mix the detergent (Klin soap) with water in the bowl and clean the residual stains wit a new towel dipped in soapy water.
- Take the last towel and soak in water. Use it to wipe the soap off your car seat, make sure ithe soap is completely wiped off.
- Allow to dry.
- By now you should be smilling. cheesy
CHEERS.
