As old and outdated as landlines might seem, we simply can't do/continue without them. Many articles, journals speak about the importance and significance of this "outdated" mode of communication, but we still allowed ours to die and continue been dead. Fact remains every sensible country on earth has landlines, even countries that manufacture GSM phones still maintain landlines in there homes and offices, and it is even downright stupid to rely completely on wireless mode of communication like we do in Nigeria. No one needs to tell us that wireless is un-reliable, unstable, vulnarable e.t.c infact do you know if one or two communication satelites got damaged in space, the whole of nigeria will have no means of communication? A determined hacker can disrupt wireless networks accross the country e.t.c Infact in a severe diplomatic row, MTN, GLO, AIRTEL might decide to withdraw from Nigeria, leaving us totally exposed and vulnarable.

On the other hand, landlines has numerous advantages that we can't afford to ignor.

1. landlines is a reliable mode of communication that do not experience disruption

2. landlines are dedicated lines which means it is stable and don't fluctuate

3. If NITEL was still functioning, nigerians would have been enjoying cheap phone services, not to talk of dedicated, cheap, highspeed, unlimited download internet service that only comes with a functioning landline system. Infact many countries in this 2012 are updating and modernizing there landline networks, that tells you how important it is.

GSM phones are designed to compliment landlines, not to replace them. Suggest ways that we can re-introduce landlines and how to convince Nigerians to accept it.
