The first step in building a formidable online presence is to own a website. In this 21st Century, having a business without a website is like riding a bike with deflated tyres: you will not get very far.
The following are some of the reasons you need a website for your business:

1. Websites Never Sleep. Many people surf the web in the evening when most businesses are closed --  which is fine because websites never sleep! A website will allow your business or organization to be open 24/7. Having a website is the equivalent of having an employee working around the clock -- even weekends and holidays!

2. Your Top Competitor Has A Website. If you are in direct competition with another business that has a website, they have a clear advantage --  especially if they are adequately marketing their website.

3. "Just Google It". More than ever before, people are turning away from traditional means of finding information and looking online. Your business should be at their fingertips.

4. Websites Improve Customer Confidence & Corporate Image. With a professional website, you will improve your overall impression to the public and, in turn, your customers will develop a greater sense of confidence in your organization.

5. Do You Know 15 Million People? That is the number of Nigerians that regularly use the Internet. Worldwide Internet usage is well over 1.5 billion.

6. Websites Help Establish More Customers. Having a website significantly improves your customer reach no matter what services or products you offer.

7. Websites Are Not Just Local - They Are Global. Most small businesses are only able to market to their town and surrounding communities. With a website, you can take your goods and services across Nigeria and around the world, if you so choose.

Okay, lets continue. today we shall be looking at
Tips on Choosing a Good Domain Name
1. Stick with “.com” : The .com TLD (top-level domain) is by far the most widely accepted extension for a domain name. If you are looking for a domain name for a business then it is even more important to choose a .com for your domain name because of the credibility boost that a .com domain name brings.
2. One may not be enough: Sometimes, it isn’t a bad idea to register several similar domain names. If you have "yourname.com", register "yourname.net" and even “yourname.com.ng” so no one else takes it. You can register your full company name and a shorter, easier to remember version. You don’t need a separate Web page for each. Several domains can point to the same Website.

3. Shorter is Better : – The shorter your domain name is then the easier it is for your visitors to remember, the easier it is for your visitors to type, and the easier it is for your visitors to tell others about your domain name. All of these are good things.
4. Domain should reflect your business name: This is important so people will easily remember your domain name once they can remember your business name.
5. Start Now! – Start choosing a domain name as soon as you can before someone else snaps it up!

Nice tips and I will to add this:
don't personalise your business website with your name except it is for personal use.
