My question drrionelli because I have seen your posts before and when this question has been posted to you u have either played the clever dodger, deflected by feigning you are being unduly attacked or posted an answer that isn't concrete.

Here are the questions:
Why do you want to learn pidgin? For what purpose? Are you married to a Nigerian? Are you friends with one? WHAT IS UR PURPOSE FOR WANTING TO LEARN PIDGIN? Most of the other non-Nigerians that are on this site are either married to one, have dated a few or are good friends with one. You have all these questions on our language and culture. That's all well and good. I'm flattered that an oyibo person wants to learn about us. I have only 1 question that I really need the answer to, why do you want to learn pidgin?

@omoovie:
Thank you for your questions.  I'll be more than happy to try to explain.

I seek to expand my familiarization with Pidgin for several reasons.  One of which is that I perceive it, rightly or wrongly,  to be a common communicative connection among the peoples of Nigeria.  Yes, I am aware that English is an official language of the country, and it is a language which I, too, speak and write.   Pidgin seems to be a language which has enough similarities to languages with which I am familiar that I feel that it would be reasonably straightforward to learn.

As I have posted earlier in this very thread, I feel that a conversancy, if not a fluency, in Pidgin would benefit my better understanding the cultures of Nigeria.   No, I am not married to a Nigerian lady (perhaps someday, though!), although I have known (and hope to know more) Nigerian people.  I also--again, as posted earlier--would at some time like to visit Nigeria and feel it would be respectful of its citizens to at least attempt to use a language that is indigenous to and comfortable with its people.

Now, if I may ask you (and I do so with no antagonism and with no intent to be confrontational):  How is it that you feel that I have played the "clever dodger" with respect to answering the questions you pose?   And, please know that I have in the time I've spent here at nairaland.com, never felt the need to feel, let alone feign, that I was being unduly attacked.   Far from it.  Even those with whom I might disagree have afforded me respect of my opinions, which, I assure you, is categorically reciprocal.

That being said,  you can see that an ability to communicate in Pidgin very well might serve me well when I spend time on this site (something I enjoy doing).  Ikamefa--among others--can vouch for me on that!   grin

(Incidentally, I don't know if the term "oyibo" refers to a person of Caucasian ancestry or if it is used to refer to non-Africans in general.  Just so it might be known, though it is surely of no consequence, I am black.)

However, I note that you did not answer the questions that I raised. Certainly, this is your prerogative, but it still leaves things unanswered. Might I prevail upon you (with all due punctiliousness) to address those that I have raised?
