Its quite unfortunate i think in English, i was very good in the Language of the Ogisos while growing up! I guess thats one of the disadvantage of migrating to states like lagos, and too much emphasis on grammer.. The unfortunate thing is that i cannot speak yoruba, speak english with a heavy accent and ever prone to different gbagaun been a non-native speaker, speaks in a corrupted tongue (pidgin a language for pigeon /fowl). Wahala dey oo! |

It depends on what am thinking, if am thinking about a logic issue or before meeting with my superiors I make my plans in good english but if am thinking randomly I use pidgin. Whenever am thinking about problem solving, I use my mother tongue. |

Optimisticgondy: I once heard from a Yoruba elder that "Ede abinibi ni a fi n ronu", meaning "we think in our mother tongue". I agreed it's true for me because I think mostly in my mother tongue. But I still doubt it's true for everyone. Is it true for you? Do you reason in English language or your mother tongue? I ruminate on things using pure english. I've never reasoned thing using my native tongue neither do I do using pidgin english... |

Thoughts do not have language. Language only comes in when u are about to communicate such thoughts. Check urselves very well. As u read this, English is just what u wld use to absorb n communicate it because it is English Language. |

In what language do deaf and dumb think? What you guys call thinking in different languages are the product of your thoughts. That is why you hear some people saying things like "I'm just thinking out loud". |

I speak and understand some delta languages, Igbo and Yoruba. But u would be right to say English is my mother tongue cos I think, dream and sleep in English. Learnt a little French but Neva think in French, also speak a little Dutch, Deutsch and Scandinavia have had dreams in these languages too. I think what someone is doing, where the person is at that point in time has an influence to what language he or she may be thinking or dreaming. The thing to ask, I believe is to differentiate between father and mother tongue. For me, my mother tongue is English since its the first language I learnt. Then my father tongue is my parents language.. |

About 15 yrs ago, I once asked my mum why she was always praying in Yoruba despite the fact that she's educated. She told me she prays in yoruba cos she thinks in yoruba. That we ought to always pray in the language we use for thought. When we (the kids) told her we exclusively think in English. She was shocked !!! She thought we were joking but then its true. You naturally think in the language you are most fluent in and you use most often. Its just like programming unless a platform is specified, your approach to solving programmatic problems will closely follow the structure of the language you are most versed in and you use most often |

People think in a combination of emotions, images, sounds and raw abstracts. Language is the 'distilled' result. You dont think in a language. You think in abstract and translate to a language. |
