The Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Aminu Yusuf, Monday disclosed that the first batch of the 2,000 Dangote graduate drivers trainees will conclude their training in January, 2013.

Yusuf in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), stated the training would be done in batches of 100 participants on quarterly basis.

The programme which is spread over a period of four years would end in 2016.

The DG also disclosed that the institute was carrying out the training in conjunction with the Federal Vehicle Inspection Officers and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

“These graduates, which include women from the Dangote Group, will undergo a three -month training because they have no knowledge of driving before being certified as drivers.

“They have graduated from different universities but have never driven vehicles before.”

“After being certified as drivers at the end of the training, they will be licensed immediately.”

“These drivers will be different from other drivers because they are not illiterates and their training is sound,’’ he said.

He said the institute was determined to provide human capital development in the transport industry.

“It is our inherent duty to provide human capacity for the entire transport industry through training and retraining, orientation skills and development and professional training.

“We feel that we should extend our services to lower cadre especially our middle level and top management training institute.’’

The NITT boss further said: “But because of frequent demands from organisations for customised training programmes for drivers, we have now designed and customised such programmes.’’

Yusuf, a Transport expert, was recently conferred with the Dr Kwame Nkrumah African distinguished Public Service Order of merit Award 2012.

As long as their remunerations are commensurate with their level of education am 100% in support, this a stepping stone for one of those drivers who recognizes opportunity, its better than being idle and jobless.

This is B.S.....Dangote understands the academic mentality that drove them into a situation which made them apply for a drivers job in the first place.

Now i'm convinced that University certificate is not a guarantee for a lifetime meal ticket.

You are just now convinced? LOL. I've always known this even before I went to college. It really isn't a guarantee. It's a flawed system that many of us have sadly bought into. Anyway, how do you know that they do not enjoy driving trucks or they do not find the idea exciting and thrilling? Each to his own. I mean no one forced them to. The fact that they have all these degrees does not mean anything. What if this is what they really want to do? Na dem take their own hand fill application form now abi? If they get job satisfaction from this, then good for them!

Try and think out of the box, i everything we do in life, there is always a better way of doing it, thats where scince comes into play.In the Uk they have graduate scheams where they absorbed anyone with first degree and train them to do anything else so that they get employed and paid, thats why they have somoen who studied Economics to be the head of the NHS
