Glaucoma is caused due to an increased pressure of the fluid within the eye. This causes atrophy of the retina and the optic nerve with serious vision repercussions. The optic nerve becomes damaged from high eye fluid pressure, and if this damage continues, glaucoma will cause the total loss of vision. It occurs when intraocular pressure increases; this happens when the fluid pressure in the eye's interior chamber rises.
Glaucoma mostly affects both eyes, but may be much serious to a particular eye.

* OPEN-ANGLE GLAUCOMA: This is the most common type of glaucoma. Here, the structure of the eye appears to be normal but the fluid within the eye does not flow properly through the trabecular meshwork, eye drain.

* ANGLE-CLOSURE GLAUCOMA: This type of glaucoma is usually less common but very chronic. Here, drainage usually appears to be poor, due to the angle between the Iris and the Cornea being too narrow.
