My dear, most of those ppl shouting 'unemployment' have something doing, no matter how small. Instead of them to seize the opportunities available to them to grow, they're there waiting and looking for BIG companies or the govt to employ them. For the records - Entrepreneurs grow the nation. safarigirl: did you mean dumb? You must be one of the dead brained citizens, mtcheew. People will never know the opportunities abound if they keep waiting for white collar jobs. Some companies have factories, but because some people would rather sit in air-conditioned offices, or feel like factory job is beneath them, they'll go about screaming 'unemployment is rife'. yes. despite all the bombing and all the incessant attacks, i really believe Nigeria is Africa's NO. 1 investment destination... without the bombed areas, Nigeria still have key areas where huge and profitable investments can be carried out |

Nice figures, well done Naija. Ghana with a population of 15 million people got $2 billion plus, Nigeria with a population of 170 million got $9 billion. Let us throw this question to a Primary 1 student: Who do you think got more value for its citizens? 1 Like |

Lamasta: Nigeria is still the toast of africa in terms of investment of FDI our only problem is that our leaders lack vvision and some Nigerians lack optimism about Nigeria their country, if the government fail does not mean the citizens should also fail also.Still?? Since when. The only area of interest is oil and gas and an increasing amount of that is in the Ocean. A country like Nigeria with her population should have serious manufacturers in the country who is investing in making any of the following in Nigeria in the last 1 year Tyres spare parts Textiles Finished Clothes white goods e.g Electric Irons fridges,TVs mobile phones, sim cards or any electronics Refining petroleum Petrochemical pharmaceutics Nigerians still wear second hand underwear and we are gloating about FDI?? let us tell ourselves the truth. No one is investing in those things that will transform our economy Power Refining Rail Agriculture processing cocoa processing palm oil processing wood Yes we have mobile phones but who is investing in Land based telephones or wireless telephony. We still import rice, beans, fish, turkey, etc and that is not attracting investement Almost all investment in Nigeria is focussed on Oil and gas and very few create jobs for our army of unemployed youth. Even if there was no FDI all the money stolen by politicians is enough to transform our economy |

oxford: The Nigerian government has revealed that the country is now the biggest receiver of foreign investment in Africa. During a recent summit, Nigeria’s Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr Olusegun Aganga, said that the country received $8.9 billion of investment money in 2011 - 16 percent of Africa’s total. A big portion of this comes from the United States, which has re-committed itself to existing investments and also placed a larger focus on non-oil investments. According to Information Nigeria, the two countries are working to enhance the levels of trade between them. Nigeria’s Punch newspaper reported that the trade relationship between the country and Sweden has reached $1 billion - though most of this still consists of imports from the latter. |

If nigeria, with a population eight times that of Ghana, can attract only $8.9 bilion in FDI (compared with $3.2 billion for Ghana) that is an unmitigated disaster that should call for nationwide weeping and gnashing of teeth. Plain and simple! But this is nigeria we are talkin about here! So, how do we ‘celebrate’ this 'great' piece of news? I suggest the Federal Government of Nigeria declares a week-long holiday and organize series of dinners at the banquet hall of the presidential villa in Abuja. What about a musical procession from Abuja to Lagos, with P-Triangle….sorry P-Wetin sef, Bright Chimezie, Sunny Ade, Seun Kuti dishing out the latest danceable Nigerian tunes? I’ll make you chairman of the organizing committee. Don’t forget to import the most expensive champagne, lace, buba, gele and agbada. More importantly, bring along my favourite artiste Idris to sing my fav tune…… nigeria jagajaga… nigeria jagajaga………………………………… 1 Like |

in the midst of 54 african countries,NIGERIA controls 16% of the total FDI,and you think they are doing badly? Do you think FDI growth is just because of population? You are an illiterate! Don't worry by the end of 2012,it would have risen to 20%. 1 Like |

Dear Sir, Good news. Now, Minister Aganga should translate these positives to jobs. Job reports has a psychological effect on people more than GDP. How many employment did the malls generate for instance? What about the construction companies, the health services, telecoms etc. Minister Aganga should itemize them sector by sector and disseminate. When people begin to hear and see that these things are affecting some lives positively, they would be less negative. They would be hopeful. Economy is run on confidence. We have somewhat succeeded in gaining the confidence of the foreigners. Now is the time to start building confidence back home. Thank you. Yours faithfully. |
