Security Beefed Up At Azazi’slagos Home… As Soldiers Chaseout Journalists by Timcy01(m): 1:21pm On Dec 19, 2012
Security situation at the
Ikoyi, Lagos home of the former
National Security Adviser,
General Andrew Owoye Azazi,
who died in a helicopter crash in
Bayelsa State on Saturday was
yesterday beefed up as stern
looking soldiers barred access to
the house.
Even journalists from various
media organisations were
turned back by the soldiers and
security operatives.
Some of the journalists reported
as early as 9.00 a.m. waiting for
‘clearance’ to take pictures and
interview dignitaries who visited
to pay condolence to the
bereaved family but around
11.00a.m., a plain-clothe security
personnel asked them to leave.
The soldiers who claimed to be
acting on instructions from
above, threatened to deal with
any of the journalists who either
took photographs or conducted
interview with any visitor to the
house.
Among the dignitaries sighted
before the development were
top military officers, both
serving and retired such as
General Gold Eburu, Group Capt
Disu, Colonel CP Izuorgu, among
others.
It has been reported that the ill-
fated helicopter, in which the
former governor of Kaduna state,
Patrick Yakowa, a former
National Security Adviser, Owoye
Azazi, and four others, were
traveling in, burst into flames,
before plunging into the creeks.
The chopper is owned by the
Nigerian Navy and was said to
have been shuttling repeatedly
between Port Harcourt, Yenogoa
and Okoroba, the town where an
aide to President Goodluck
Jonathan, Oronto Douglas, was
burying his father over the
weekend. The governor and the
former Security chief, were on
their way to Port Harcourt, en-
route Abuja.
Multiple reports say the carrier
wobbled shortly after it
stabilized in air and then
plummeted into the swamps
around 2.30pm.
There seems to be no end to
insinuations that there was more
to Saturday’s crash than meets
the eyes.
The Federal Government has
however begun investigation
into the crash.
