before u start saying things u dont knw much about u read up first. this youwin execise is just for 1200 people only with the range of 1m -10m. this is just a part of the reinvestment of subsidy that was removed. and there is nothing shameful about it.
God!!! Are you dis slow?? Out of 40,000,000 unemployed youths and they are only giving 1,200 people 1m-10m. Let me give you an example, imagine if 30m people out of 40m people have a job. Let say with your YOUWIN money you open a boutique and 30million people are employed or doing business, do you have an idea how much you will be making when people have money to buy cloths and shoes from your shop. Big businesses are shutting down, do you think all of them feel like shutting down? 1,200businesses = 40million broke people is not an achievement my sister. Them in abuja know its all kalukalu. To me wats achievement is if they will give 36m people that's 1m people from each states N2-5million then that's achievement. But guess what, dis government is like al quelda dey have brainwash us dat the money is not there. God in heaven know the money is in Nigeria.

The program is a good one, and apparently one of the few government programs that has not become a party loyalty scheme.

A more serious government however would have a more comprehensive scheme that would affect the lives of more people.

Consider, for instance, if government gave such a grant to every 2.1 graduate in Nigeria every year. The conditions would be simple: you attend a 3 month business training workshop, which at the end, you draw up a comprehensive business plan. With your NYSC number, you collect your loan/grant, and launch your business. That would affect more lives and make more meaning. They can even give you a case officer/mentor to monitor your progress.

It appears to me sometimes that government is just trying to do as little as possible to achieve a little sense of governance. Just create a tiny semblance of governance to give a little hope, but the main aim really is looting.

They should go and study Lulu da Silva of Brazil's presidency. With small loans to poverty stricken families, 10 million people were lifted out of poverty in 8 years in power. That is what I call governance...not stipends to a thousand Nigerians out of 160 million people.

you made sense here. but the truth is if ur govt cant do anything for u. then u have to do sometin for ur self no mata hw small.

I have lived in societies where the government works for the people: that is why. I am also very knowledgeable about how other undeveloped countries made it out of the woods.

There is no sense of urgency in a government taxed with lifting about 130 million Nigerians out of poverty.

I did not just criticize, I pointed out that it is a good initiative and is apparently merit-based. Good. I pointed out that it will not have a big impact on many Nigerians. I then give an example of how the program can be expanded and restructured to affect many Nigerians. Tell me what is wrong with the post?

I have a brain, and I use it to reason You should try using your brain for the same purpose.

What history of loans? If you read my post, you will see that I said they should attach the loans to the NYSC numbers, that way, the participants can be tracked.

I will say it over and over again, this is absolute hog wash. I believe the grant to 1200 people is real. The cost-benefit analysis of the project is NEGATIVE. The Federal Govt. claims to be making or expanding businesses for 1,200 entrepreneurs in a country where there are over 50 million employed youths. They are drawing water from an ocean with a bucket with the aim of drying up the ocean, they are jokers.

Average of 10 million * 1,200 = N12 billion , when you include training, logistics blal bla , it could go as high as 20-30 billion annually.

The billions they will most likely waste on this project, should have been divested with greater sense.

With the same 20billion Naira, Government should have instituted a Micro credit / finance facilities to commercially active poor of say N100k (N100,000 * 200,000 = N20biilion) repayable at little or no interest rate in a year, this will turn around the lives of 200,000 women spread across the 774 LG in the country.

Another set of 200,000 women will benefit a year after, that way the project is sustainable, the impact is larger........ To reduce defaulters, who will not want to pay back, a group of even numbers say 4 people will be formed, two will be payed the money, the other two wont be pay until a year after, but will serve as a check that the others remit their dues monthly or as convenient.)

I pity how myopic the way ppl reason most times. So money to start business should be given to those with 2.1 because good grades from the university depicts enterpreneurship potentials, meaning those with 2.2 and below are slow poke. As far as I'm concerned, govt should not dash money because if they do, it will most likely land in the hand of the smart or well connected folks. Have you considered the number of NYSC members unis produce every year, don't you notice the unrest among corp members if they are not given monthly allowance on time? I have seen corps members that saved some money to start their bis out of the little they are all paid while others began begging after they left camp, in such case no amount of millions will be given to that who did not save to make him, it will only take a little longer for the money to run out while the guy who could save from the same amount they were all paid may not need up to a million to be made for life. Rather than cause problems while tring to solve one, govt should give the money to people that have seen life from a realistic perspective rather than freshers, better still to ppl who have established a biz for a while and actually need some form of financial support to take it higher and with possibility to pay back, else its just a dash of money to "who's next" with such a clever name as 'youwin'

I actually submitted a well detailed business plan for my younger sister and it was selected. The only snag now is convincing my younger sis to follow through with the series of trainings required. I drew up the business just to test my entrepreneurial skills but deep down i knew it was good enough to be shortlisted. I might just have to forget about it,since my sis won't go through with it.

You have to try harder and convince her to go cos she has alot to do from here, besides how much did u apply for?

This is what I am talking about. You and your sister have taken a slot that another human would have killed to have. I know it is by your brains u got it but u are killing the competition cos it is not meant for u. Say u actually convinvce and perfectly prep ur sister for the 2nd round and she makes it, wouldnt it be an absolute waste of resources caused by u? U won,t be in charge of the project, she would. No matter what you say about helping her she won,t be you and since its your idea that won the prize you se how u have cheated the country at large just for a project ur sister DID NOT WANT IN THE 1ST PLACE! sad

Dude, i perfectly understand your sentiments. The competition offered me a platform to test my concept but unfortunately it was narrowed to just the female folk, so i had to use my younger sis. Hopefully, i would convince her to follow through.

@ uihebom - you sound like an angry, disillusioned youth, probably frustrated at the waste and corruption in Nigeria. That is understandable. What is unreasonable, is your expectation that your government owes you a handout! What is this based on? How much have you paid to the Nigerian government in taxes to have such expectations of them? Even if the FG's coffers were a bank account, you would have to make deposits first to expect a withdrawal, no? The Nigerian government is NOT infact based on a socialist system, and does not owe you a duty of redistribution of wealth!

@ emiye - The best way, in reality, to dry up an ocean (to borrow your metaphor) is bucket by bucket. Where resources are limited, you make the best of what you have, and little by little, you attack the problem and with everyone working together, playing their respective roles!

This programme is one of many geared towards the goal of encouraging entrepreneurship and alleviating poverty. It will not solve everyone's problems, but then it is not aimed at solving the world's issues. It is a small step towards a bigger goal. Doubting Thomases, step aside!
