PropertiesRe: President Tinubu To Launch Abuja’s ₦2.4 Trillion “city Walk” Gateway Megaproject by 1144AK(m): 6:04pm On Jul 14
3Ceagle:
What about investing in our people to generate income even at the rural area. What about making sure every community in Nigeria have electricity. Is the government tackling Rural-Urban migration? People move heavily to the cities to create slum cities. Our government need to make simple things work and work efficiently. China didn’t start from building cities, they started by investing in their people, then empowering the families to produce. It was even said one family one product. What is this government policy on agriculture, to what extent has it empowered the rural area with mechanised farming equipments, modern storage technologies and education on export opportunities and standization to meet international need.
Do we have good medical facilities at the rural areas? That is a discussion for another to day. Remember that our larger population live in the rural areas. Good news to me will be that government is investing in the rural areas to cub rural- urban migration. What about focusing on one thing and be internationally known for that.
At what expense? One of our fundamental issues in Nigeria is always waiting for the government to do everything for us. What have we done to better our own lives and those of the people around us with the little infrastructure available?

Wealthy private individuals could actively invest in these spaces—such as providing solar-powered electricity to villages tied directly to local production hubs. Many young people move to cities for opportunities, unaware of how to tap into the agricultural and natural resources sitting right in their backyards.

My point isn't to absolve the government of its primary duties, but to show that citizens must be proactive.Furthermore, governance isn't uniform; some states perform decently while others lag behind. True accountability must begin with Governors and LGA chairmen.

While China invested heavily in its populace, we cannot ignore the personal responsibility of family planning—bringing children into the world without the resources to train them breeds the systemic desperation that feeds corruption later on. China also enforced incredibly tough, authoritarian decisions that would face massive public backlash if attempted in Nigeria.

While some states take farm mechanization seriously, others fold their hands. Government intervention is needed, but the private sector should run the commercial show to generate revenue. The same applies to healthcare; properly structured private clinics in rural areas can be highly profitable while filling critical public infrastructure gaps.

Lithiumite:
That guy is an economist of no mean fit,a former banker and an entrepreneur.......his role as an adviser to the president would make him have a handson feeling about the economy.....I haven't seen everything wrong with his assertions.
Lithiumite, ignore those people who haven't achieved much in life; they most likely haven't traveled to any advanced countries before. The economy is tight all over the world. In the U.S. today, families have to work two or more jobs to make ends meet. Nigeria is very lucky to have these individuals handling the economy.

Back to what Fasua said, it is possible to feed well on ₦10,000/week if the money is managed strategically. Buying in bulk goes a long way. While there might be a stretch in what he said, it is possible. Families do it, though those families could also do better; if they have the space, they can plant vegetables around the house, buy food in bulk, and find cheaper alternatives.

And for those wondering, there are indeed places where you can get a ₦1,000 meal in a restaurant.

Armaggedon:
can you state any part of the agreement that bars countries from investing in coal fired power plants? Many signatories of the agreement including China are building massive coal fired power plants. The agreement only commits signatories to reducing greenhouse emissions to 1.5°C in their own way.
Exactly. Heavy industries still rely on 'dirty' energy sources because clean energy alternatives aren't yet sufficient to power them. Consequently, countries like China must continue using fossil fuels for now, even as they commit to reducing emissions by diversifying into cleaner energy sources.

The micro economy is getting better, but with time the macro economy would improve.

We can't continue the subsidy scam that benefits a few. That subsidy must go,and it has gone forever
Thank you very much. I hadn't seen this comment before I made mine. Many states in Nigeria are working on expanding their industrial base, but more needs to be done by Nigerians—especially wealthy Nigerians.

I took time to reply your comment cause I was shocked by the level of foo....lish....ness in it.

But for educational purposes and so that you don't pass this mindset to your children, I'll respond to your ridiculous comment.

Now your definition of pipe borne water is:

Actually, pipe-borne water is simply water distributed through a network of pipes to a point of use, regardless of the power source.

So you think the point of use is 1KM way from their houses where they have to queue for long just to get few buckets of water? And ot inside the house?

Subjecting two or 3 streets to four tanks of water and solar energy that might not be able to pump it well over time?

Mothers waking up early in the morning just to queue for water? That is their point of use?

You think I don't know this solar powered boreholes?

Thy spoil in a very short time!

You need to get educated. Not Luke a B.sc but on what proper life ought to look like cause right now your mindset is poised towards suffering as normal.

bejick:
Yes the state allocation let say doubled but foreign exchanged Quadrupled so how does it make any sense.
Because the government has floated the naira, it is no longer propped up, fixed, or subsidized.

What Nigerians need to do now is figure out how to earn foreign exchange through services or manufacturing—much like what Dangote is doing. The country must transition into an export-oriented economy to attract more dollars and drive local growth.
BusinessRe: Nigerian States Return To Borrowing Despite FAAC Windfall by 1144AK(m): 7:11pm On Apr 03
Even if Lagos borrows, they borrow to build trains and bridges that make money. The problem isn't borrowing; the problem is states that borrow just to pay salaries because they refuse to innovate.

If Akwa Ibom can jump 17 places by being transparent and hitting 105% of their revenue target, what is stopping other states from doing the same?"
BusinessRe: Nigerian States Return To Borrowing Despite FAAC Windfall by 1144AK(m): 7:02pm On Apr 03
Stop crying "Tinubu" every time and start asking your Governor what he’s doing with the record-high allocations entering his account.

Since subsidy removal, FAAC transfers to states have jumped by over 160%, yet many are still 90% dependent on Abuja for every kobo. States like Lagos, Ogun, and Anambra are already hitting high IGR and building infrastructure.

If your state is still waiting for a federal "alert" before it can breathe, that is a failure of local leadership, not a macro-economic problem. The money is there—it’s time to hold the states accountable for how they spend it!

I dont know why some of u fail to understand this. Bro, it is hard to hold these governos accountable. Ordinary local govt chairman, u cant. These guys are protected by FG mights and they brag about it. This is why all governors are always trying to be in the good books of the FG and not the good book of the masses under them. Take a look at edo state, the governor no send his citizens. he just wants to be in the good book of Tinubu, they all ass lick him. Look at ur national assembly, the same thing. The judiciry, the same thing. Do u know why? the FG is too powerful. That is not supposed to be. The FG is richer than the entire states combined. That is not supposed to be. For states to be truly held accountable, end the era of FG spoon feeding state governors and let states work haard for their money and spend it in their domain. If we dont fix these core issues, we are wasting our time. Many states do nothing both human capital wise and orderwise and still get FG allcations every month and the governor will use the money to buy endless properties. This is why I am against the foolish tax. Like, Nigeria hasnt fixed her core foundamental problems and u are talking of tax. Are we mad or what?
The federal government is doing well in terms of the macro-economy, but the states need to leverage the increased allocations they are receiving.

While some states are trying, they ought to do more and be innovative in their approach. The federal government under BAT has done a lot for the macro-economy; now, the states need to extend those impacts to their constituencies.

What Nigeria needs is more private innovative industries—it is private innovation, science, and tech that drive countries forward.

Unfortunately you don't even know what pipe borne water is and so anything the government gives you to manage is fine.

Shut up!
Actually, pipe-borne water is simply water distributed through a network of pipes to a point of use, regardless of the power source.

You should go get educated and stop arguing rubbish; the claim that people do not have access to public water is a lie.

In the North where I stay, there are ward-level solar-powered borehole systems and even pipe-borne networks that are functional and working even today.

AgricultureRe: Importation Wipes Out 90 Rice Mills by 1144AK(m): 8:36am On Mar 16
nairalanda1:
The countries we import rice from, Thailand and Brazil, have something we don't have....year round rain and favourable conditions for growing rice nationwide all the. year round

So they can produce rice in large amounts yearly

In Nigeria,.most rice farming is done in the North which means it requires a lot of irrigation and heavy duty labor as rainfall there is not as much as in the other countries . That means that production cost for rice here is much higher than in Thailand or Brazil where irrigation is not necessary or needed much.

Also,.Nigerian rice producers can't meet up to half of the total rice demand. That creates relative scarcity.

Add transport costs and insecurity and poor road and transport networks as well as lack of large-scale farming of rice, and the reasons for the price being higher become clear
Then they should do something else since rice production isn't our competitive advantage, given the weather and geography you just pointed out. I think it's time to start using alternative and cheaper sources of energy, like solar panels, to run generators for farm irrigation.
