The Jigawa State Government has threatened to prosecute traders who manhandle chickens and other poultry animals in the state.

The Chairman of the Consumer Protection Agency in the state, Abdulkadir Hadejia, gave the warning on Saturday during a sensitisation exercise at Furji Market in Yankwashi Local Government Area.

He said the government had placed a ban on the manhandling of chickens in all markets across the state and warned that defaulters would be prosecuted.

Honestly, u need to see the way this malams handle animals. Those creatures feel pains just as we do. I see some wicked Nigerians stack over 20 goats in a car trunk and u will see the poor animals gasping for breath and space. Animals are treated better in more civilized contries. I think the law to protect chickens and animals in general is nt out of place.

Can u explain how animals are suppose to be transported. U think whoever owns those stocks does not care for them? I tell u d truth they know the value for one stock so they wont allow anyone to die. Abi u want make them give them seat for the motor?

God bless u for this post. The way we treat our animals reveals our sense of compassion and our humanity. Animals are living beings like us: they feel pain and hav emotions. Loving your neighbour includes treating every living thing around you with care and compassion. Kudos to Jigawa State for this bold intiative. Sometimes the people we regard as backward are better than us- a fulani man will never ill-treat his animals, in fact he cares for them as if they are his family member, and indeed they are! Today set free that bird u hav mercilessly imprisoned in a cage - u want mercy do show mercy urself.
