MTN & End Of Activity Notification (EOCN) Exposed Fraud by AceVentura: 6:23pm On Jan 01, 2013
I've been an MTN subscriber for 11yrs now & recently, they exposed themselves thru the EOCN (end of call/activity notification). They rob you of your airtime even when you don't touch your phone.

NCC recently introduced EOCN so that GSM subscribers can monitor their charges after making calls. It comes as a pop-up notifying you of the cost of your last call.

I'm also a blackberry (BB) subscriber & I pay a monthly access fee of N1,500. Recently, I noticed that I'll wake up in the morning with N0.00 airtime balance irrespective of whatever balance I had the previous day. I used to think that my wife uses my phone to make calls so I didn't bother about it until NCC enforced the EOCN. It exposed some of the fraudulent practices perpetrated by the GSM operators whereby your account is debited even when you don't touch your phone. It turns out that once MTN has a network issue, the bb subscriber's airtime is debited even when the subscription is up & running. That's broad daylight robbery.

On a particular day, I loaded N750 on a saturday morning & the EOCN kept on popping up even though I didn't make any call(s). I had to shut down my phone to prevent them from wiping off my airtime. I went to MTN friendship centre & all they did was to apologize. These guys have over 3million bb subscribers. If they end up deducting everyone's airtime with a cumulative charge of N50 any time they have a network challenge, that will be N150M.

I only found out due to the introduction of EOCN. Who knows how long that this has been happening? Why are we to pay for their flaws?

Please help spread this message until they stop this fraudulent practice. It is unethical & unprofessional of them.
