There is no way she would have died from this if she were here in the USA
This is just heartbreaking

Dat's too much of an assumption, don't people die in d USA?

You could av said there is a higher chance of her surviving.

Siena: How sad! That hospital (what I can see in the picture) looks filthy.

May her gentle soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
It is obvious from that picture that the hospital is dirty and unequipped. She probably would have died from pre-eclampsia, d leading cause of maternal mortality in nigeria. So sad that pregnant women still die from such preventable causes. This goes to show that our healthcare system has hit rock bottom.

That is a teaching hospital ,one of the best in Nigeria
Supposedly where all the specialties that could save her are under one roof
I wonder what she died of
Most deaths in Nigeria are man made and preventable

I told someone that I have been the USA donkey years I have never heard of a woman that died in childbirth or from pregnancy complications
Not a single one I know,co worker o,church member o,friends o,neighbor o
I neither know one or ever heard of one from anyone I know
Yet it is everyday news in Nigeria
?

You dont hear about deaths in childbirth in the USA because pregnant women go for prenatal checkups and are delivered in hospital. But in Nigeria many pregnant women dont see any doctor at all or replace prenatal medical checkup with prayer! Some pastors even on TV tell pregnant women not to go to hospital-and they believe. oftentimes a woman would be detained in church in the expectation of a miracle and only rushed to hospital when it is too late for the doctors to save her life. As long as this attitude continues death in childbirth is not likely to decrease in nigeria. Worse still, poverty is a serious challenge and medical facilities may not be readily available especially in rural areas.

How do you all expect this woman to survive in this type of hospital no offence to the doctors and nurses God help my family oh don't let me see what will make me have to go to this kind hospital I beg you God Jesus please.

My dear no be small thing o. A friend of mine nearly died in st davids hospital owerri like this too o. She was PG and lost the baby in 3rd month the owner once locked the pharmacy and went home with the keys they couldn't give her medicines till he came back. He was very rude to patients too.

Nigerian medical service is slowly dying while the peoiple at the top are eating funds meant to upgrade these big hospitals and there are no standards set and enforced in the small one man owened hospitals. I don't know if doctors of nowadays even have the passion for the job or they just like to be called doctors and earn big money.

Re: Last Photo Of Bisi Komolafe In Hospital Before Her Death by Nobody: 8:42am On Jan 03, 2013
^^^ I think ectopic pregnancies are the number one complications where an abortion is necessary. Another is when a woman is miscarrying and the body isn't expelling the fetus fast enough. With ectopic pregnancies, if it's caught early enough, surgery isn't required. A woman can be given drugs and miscarriage is induced that way.

I have witness a situation where a pregnant woman was bleeding torrentially at term due to a low lying placental. The dr that saw her told the woman and her relatives what needed to be done including an operation they declined. The husband even agreed to put down in writing his unwillingness to allow the recommended treatment. The woman said a pastor has told them operation would never be an option! Can you imagine. I don't know when one becomes a dr by factual of being a pastor. There lot of incidence like this.

When these pastors release them to the hospital after serious complications have set in and they eventually died people will start blaming the dr. Look, apart from the working environment and lack of resources, Nigeria dr can compete with their colleague anywhere in the world.

So like u have rightly put it, health is first an individual responsibility before a dr comes in.

Honestly, its God that destines our faith not the type of hospital or number of specialists determines that. Crying over a spilt milk is absurd. We must all die one day. That should be our watch word. Rest in Peace nd may God grant her eternal rest, Amen.

Because we must all die one day does not mean we should exit this world recklessly and from preventable or treatable complications and diseases.

MacLovington:

From the way she looks, it was probaably pre-eclampsia/eclampsia. Especially if first pregnancy.

Perhaps she was being monitored as an in-patient for pre-eclampsia and things got worse.

We don't know if she told doctors she wanted to keep the baby by all means. If she did, maybe they were trying to make baby viable enough (I learnt it's 28 weeks in Naija)before delivery. Delivery of placenta (not just baby)is the only cure for eclampsia BUT even after delivery, a woman is still at risk for some time.

MYTH: people do not die abroad of pregnancy-related problems

TRUTH: People do die but in much much fewer numbers. A woman died a few months ago of a cornual ectopic in a hospital in one of the most popular foreign countries with Naija people. Colleagues were lamenting that it is inexcusable in the 21st century. One doc who was supposed to go and work the said hospital next changed his mind.

Oh, a pregnant Naija tourist had a lucky escape as she literally collapsed just outside our offices. Luckily one of the best places to be if you're eclamptic! All the pre-eclampsia symptoms were already there in Naija but nobody thought of it! That's a middle class lady able to afford treatment in Naija, what of Mama Nkechi and Iya Lukman, the Epa ati Bole.

LOL @ "From the way she looks, it's probably pre-eclampsia/eclampsia."

Now, tell me doctor, what in her face gave it away? And how far gone was she?cheesy

I gave 2 reasons, either the hospital is not UCH by judging from the wall, or that's not her on the picture.
How will you tell me that the best hospital in Nigeria and probably the 3rd best in West Africa can't afford to paint her wall?
