What did Jesus preach? did Jesus preached that giving should be based on the expectations of reward? is that the message in Luke 6:38? Lets read verse 30-34 of the Luke chapter (NIV):

33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, [size=14pt]what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that[/size].

consider the bit in blue, Christ is telling you character or qualities expected of a Christian. Your heart matters a lot to God. The motivations for giving is very important. Christ is telling us giving out of love (without expecting to get anything back!) is what he desires. He is also telling us in this verse that our giving will not go un-noticed by the Almighty, there is reward for giving out of love. This takes us to verse 38 you quoted;

38 "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.(AV) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

So what type of giving are we to follow? is it:
1. giving in love without expectations of returns (as preached by Christ)? or
2. giving for profit in anticipation of 'bumper' returns (the casino gospel as delivered by prosperity preachers)? what credit is this to you cos even sinners do this.

and what is the difference between these two? they are both acts of giving. the intentions or motivations for the giving set them apart. That is the difference between prosperity gospel and that of Christ. God will reward those he wish to reward and Jesus did not say our giving should be based on expectations of reward from God.

For better understanding of the quote you posted, you should consider verse 8 as well.

Apostle Paul is talking about sowing and reaping but what do you sow to please the flesh and what do you sow to please the spirit? I can tell you one thing; the man that gives in love walks in the spirit and the man whose giving is motivated by the so called principle of 'giving and receiving' sows to please the flesh. You reap what you sow, very true. The latter is driven by greed and will reap the reward of the flesh. This is where prosperity gospel leads its practitioners to.

You don't love your brother or neighbor because of what you intend to reap; that is not true love, it is not the kind of love taught by apostle Paul. instead, it is your pastor's teaching (the casino gospel). Apostle Paul taught un-conditional giving and he advised in verse 2 of that same chapter you quoted that we should carry each other burden in fulfillment of the law of Christ.

2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Every action comes with its reward. sinners will reap their reward just as believers will reap theirs. in your quote above, Paul is telling the Philippians that what makes him happiest is the well-earned reward accruing to the Philippians as a result of their kindness. Now what does it mean for one to be kind? again you can see that it is a matter of the heart. is the man giving because of the expected reward showing kindness or is he just engaging in a business transaction (for profit)? Paul talked about the Philippians showing concern in verse 10:

10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.

Now giving because you have a genuine concern for the welfare of a brother (in need) cannot be the same as giving to that brother because of the benefit you want to receive. Your actions cannot be driven by both motives at the same time. Its either you give out of love or you give because you also want to receive. Paul is not telling the Philippians to give so as to receive. He rejoiced in their acts of charity and he knew that their action will not go un-noticed by the Almighty. These acts are a reflection of the spirit of God in them.

How did you come to the conclusion that God must perform his part for every act of giving you undertake? God is not indebted to anybody for their actions. It is the same God that shows kindness to the ungrateful & the wicked. You think these categories of people did anything to receive God's kindness? If you were to pay God for giving you the opportunity to counted as one of his, do you think you can complete the payment in your lifetime? You claim pastors only take half a verse of a scipture leaving the rest because of their selfish purposes ok let's look at this.

matt 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Lets take away the upper part.
...... and all these things shall be added unto you.

I hope we are in understanding, this case are not a prefix and sufix verses like you want to think. Rather, they butress each other.

Weither he takes it from the top or from the bottom, it will end up saying the same Thing.a d passing the same message.

Jst humbling themselves,praying and seeking his face will automatically bring the result that follows. Even if that part was not added to the main scripture. That is the nature of God and that's how it works.
